    I don’t know Justin personally but everyone should get his Flipwise. Extremely user friendly and helpful in every way, including aspects you’ve perhaps not thought of.
    I’m a long hold out on international shipping because they repackage your items.. I know feedback isn’t the be all end all, but it bugs me that you can get potentially negative feedback for eBay repackaging poorly. Have you had that happen Justin?

    +100 on being consistent. I finally embraced listing every single day, no exceptions. I save many in draft form so if I don't get around to creating a new listing, I just pop in one of my drafts. I've been doing this for about 3 weeks. Sales have tripled. So eBay rewards consistency!

      I have been selling on eBay as a hobby or part time gig for the most part for many many years. Recently, I have started trying to make a living selling on eBay. The BIGGEST “ah ha” moment has definitely been that eBay gives priority to the listings of those sellers who list often & consistently. I seriously never knew that. It is VERY obvious. Things I’ve had listed for over a year are now selling.

    I was bummed when I missed the invite for your beta program for Flipwise! I am only a part time seller and work outside the house full-time, so I was pretty busy at that time. But, this week I signed up for Flipwise! In the past 3 days I have found that it has made me more motivated to list new items and clear out my desk of clutter of receipts that were missed! Thank you, Justin!!!

    I have definitely made mistakes. I’m glad you share yours. Love your videos and your approach. I bought a settlers of catan for ten bucks. Talked the seller from 20. It was basically open box. I listed it for 25 with free shipping. Had a buyer in a day but then they canceled hours later. Had another buyer a few days later and took an offer for 3.75 less. Thought it was fine. Then once I paid for the shipping myself and processed it found out I lost under 2 dollars on it. Definitely sucked when I thought about buying something to flip just to lose money but finally got over it. You’re right. Don’t be too hard on yourself. We resellers have so many times more positive outcomes from buys.

    Flipwise suggestion: In your video you mentioned that you (we) sometimes make money on a flip, and sometimes lose money. I sometimes try to approach reselling in more of a portfolio mindset, so in my custom spreadsheets sometimes I will track the ROI of purchases from a day of the week, or even from a certain store on a day of the week. It can be interesting to see how much you profit from a certain estate sale, looking back a year later, for example. Just something to think about, consider. Thanks

    My husband found a brand new wooden ice cream maker at an estate sale. I would have NEVER seen it. It was under a table in it's original box. He talked them down to $35. We ended up selling it for $400. That was an awesome one!

      I am surprised you even had to pay that much. I have found with estate sales, stuff under desks, small things on the floor, stuff in the bottom drawers, either gets priced a few dollars, if it gets priced at all. People do not like to have to bend down, whether that is people placing stickers at estate sales or other pickers/shoppers. I avoid the estate sale crowds and scour the places that people miss. I only go when an estate sale opens if I have spotted something in a photo that has high demand, a great sell through rate, and I will get a high ROI on it. A few weeks ago I spotted a vintage Coleman lantern in a photo of an estate sale. I could tell from the photo that it was located in the basement. I was number 4 in line. The 3 people ahead of me stopped to look at the junk in the living room, I headed right for the basement. Someone behind me in line had gone around the backside of the house and entered the basement that way. The guy was looking at the Coleman by the time I got to the basement. "Oh no," I thought. I acted casual as I looked at something beside him. The man moved on without picking the Coleman. I snagged it for $10. 😁

    Re pizza cooker, we stayed at an AirBnB and had bought frozen pizzas and then realized the unit had no stove, just a toaster oven. But we did discover they had a pizza cooker like the one you sold. So, my theory is comps are high bc other AirBnB-type hosts are buying them for rental units without ovens - that and for college dorm rooms 😊

    I was just about to have to go through my end of month routine where I take a look at every payout and sale and them plop in the info into a spread sheet, and said "F-this" I'm going to subscribe to Flipwise! Best decision I've ever made. Now, I just need more high quality items to sell... don't we all...

  • @handyhistorian
    @handyhistorian Місяць тому +1

    The longer I've been selling the more I've started to see the small and even negative ROI sales as "kindling" for the algorithm that helps with the bigger ROI sale "logs". Of course you don't want to waste your time with too many trivial sales but I almost always have a good item sell shortly after a minimal return item sells. eBay doesn't care if you lose money on some items as long as its shipped promptly and the buyer is happy. The occasional bad or questionable item sale (took too long to sell, cost more to ship than expected, was more of a hassle with buyer questions/offers than worth it, etc.) is also a mini lesson that helps you improve as a seller. I've gotten better and better with sourcing and increasingly stop myself from buying certain things based on those past experiences. On the positive side I pick certain things up no-question at the right price because I know they'll sell, I know how to price them, ship them and so on. Thanks for another informative vid.

    I don’t sell very much. I am just downsizing my antique doll collection. I recently sold a Kestner to a woman in the Chezk Republic. Unfortunately she has not received it. She opened a case and was reimbursed in 24 hours. I was so grateful I used eBay international shipping. No issues for me and buyer had their money returned. No idea where the doll is - somewhere in the UC shipping process.

    Flipwise is super awesome. Def like it. Only thing I am waiting for is either other store integration...or if that is going to take a while, to add the ability to mark an item sold on another site and manually put in the info. Business Policies are fantastic. Also very good for bulk updating shipping.
    I hear you on not being scared to spend money on things. Spending 30 on something to make 100 sounds reasonable, but only if you can be certain it works. As someone predominantly dealing in electronics, it very quickly starts adding a lot of financial risk.
    When you pay very little for an item, the risk is then very low if it doesn't work.
    Only takes a few bad calls on higher priced items to ruin your overall ROI.

      Same situation was happening here when I had flat rate shipping on my listings. Items would sell to Hawaii, California, Oregon, etc., I'm on the East Coast. I'm now doing calculated shipping on all listings after having way too many West Coast buyers. It's all so calculated to get the most money for eBay from both the buyer and the seller.

    • @jodimurphy8440
      @jodimurphy8440 Місяць тому +1

      Yeah, it seems like most of the reselling UA-camrs talk about flat rate shipping, but then live in areas where it makes the most sense. For those of us on the west coast, not so easy. At least the algorithm shows our items to west coast shoppers first, so we have a sporting chance. Even then, some of my first sales were to Puerto Rico (I'm in WA). :)

For example, books, a huge, heavy book is listed for 2 bucks, has free shipping to boot, where is the profit in this? I see it happening often and have no way to compete with that, there cannot be much of a profit for them, any insight you could offer would be great, thanks.

I've also never included an invoice or return sticker with any of the thousands of sales on the other platforms I use to currently sell on. Your Flipwise product is awesome. I'll be signing up. PLUS, I like your speed-listing ideas. I own 2 Tuff Sheds and am loaded down with the estate from my parents, plus my own, after decades of living. My parents' library easily has over 2,000 titles; my own easily approaches 3,000, and most are on the hardback side. I have items from my parents that go back over 100+ years. At the moment, sourcing is not an issue; getting motivated to tackle the monster again is the issue. :) I'll be listening to a lot of your videos in between the daily listings, of course! LOL

    Good stuff Justin. I tried business policies, but they seemed to proliferate over time to 100s of similar, yet not identical policies. If I could have figured out how to fix this, I probably would have kept with them, but it just doesn’t seem like it’s worth the savings in time just figuring a calculated rate. Free Shipping would work for me for some things, but guys, if you do add the shipping into the price, remember that if you sent out an 15-30% offer on this item, you will NOT be making that margin you planned on making. Keep that in mind.

    Speaking on paying up when sourcing, I have spent up to $50-60 on an item I knew would sell quick. However when the sale comes in (and I have been lucky thus far and have not lost with this strategy) it sure seems like you've made more than you have, a low ROI. Sometimes its a struggle to find quality items to source, and I just figured its a way buy time until I can source more quality items. Sometimes the money seems to pour in like water and other times the well doesn't have a drop, thanks for the video.

In my Seller Hub, it says I am "Enrolled" yet I am still prompted to add international shipping on all of my listings, which seems separate from the program. Because I'm "enrolled" do I still need to be turning on International shipping on all of my listings in order to participate in the program? I sure your app is great, but it takes me out of understanding what you're saying because it takes too long to see the informant I, as a seller, am interested in.
    Were used to seeing eBay format and understanding the information at a glance. The view you're using on your sold items is "confusing" and not easily seen on the phone most of us view it on.

    I was listing about 5 items per day when I was working and then i've listed about 10 to 20 items per day from Saturday on and my sales have been about 1 to 2 items a day with barely any value. If i could list 20 items a day I would do it but I find that I don't have the time in a day to list everything. My goal was to try to get as many items listed as possible on Ebay. It doesn't look like Ebay wants me to list more than 5 items per day.

    I’ve been selling for about a year. When I started I simply bought inventory and set it on a shelf until I got around to relisting. The pile grew with no accounting of the inventory. At some point I started a spreadsheet. Using Flipwise, what can I do to to accommodate the unknown value of these goods?

    I’ve tried free shipping and flat rate found it made no difference in my sales. Didn’t find that market supported a higher sales price and was expensive to ship since I’m on the east coast and frequently ship to west coast. Also don’t care for having to pay for a buyers shipping in returns. I’m staying with calculated shipping and have opted out of the new eBay policy.

    I just had some silver candlesticks shipped to Australia! The item was broken in half when it arrived, and I called eBay to figure out how to handle it. They said it was still something that I needed to handle on my end. I'm currently working with USPS claims. It shows domestic since I shipped to the eBay international shipping department. But technically, the item is still labeled overseas.... Do you think I should reach back out to eBay? Thank you!!

    You didn't mention that ebay is changing the shipping again. Currently sellers that use calculated shipping get a discount on shipping and the spread between the what the buyers pay and the seller cost is used by many sellers to cover the cost of shipping supplies & handling etc. Now, starting May 15th, buyers will see and buy at the the actual seller shipping cost. Sellers will have to opt out of calculated and use business policies if you still want to build some of the shipping expenses into the shipping. I have a 1600 item store, and changing each and every listing to policies is going to be a real headache.

    The fees definitely add up but I feel like with ebay profiting from them it allows them to side with sellers more often. I had a buyer buy an item at 44$ amd paid 55$ to ship it and within 2 hours ask to cancel due to shipping to high. I explained how I already dropped the item off a usps and offered a partial refund to help with shipping. They agreed then opened a item not received case. After ebay closed the case due to tracking proving package delivery they opened a return then sent the item back damaged and not working. Ebay allowed me to give 22$ partial refund amd opened an investigation on the buyer because they have a history of false claims.

    • @Michael-fw5ef
      @Michael-fw5ef Місяць тому +5

      If the buyer had a history of false claims, why was that buyer still allowed to buy from you? Why didn't Ebay already ban that buyer?
      Ebay could rate buyers by showing their claim rate. Then sellers could filter out high return rate buyers.

    I don't like "international" shipping. I've done a few and it only cost what the calculated shipping cost. Even free items go to an ebay warehouse so it doesnt cost me as much from the seller side, but places like PR needs to be considered "international". I had someone from there buy a Blueray that I had free shipping and it would have cost me 3x what I was asking to ship the movie there. Thankfully I had to cancel the sale because the buyers address Couldnt be verified through ebay and wouldnt generate a shipping label.
