Lastly, forgot to mention there is a sleep function if you press the power button. If this goes over $70, I recommend the 353VS or Mini instead. What are your thoughts so far? Update: For my "DOA" 2nd unit, I put the OS card into the wrong SD card slot. It is working normally now. Lastly, when it fell asleep, you can see I accidentally pushed the 2 devices too close and pushed the power button so it shut down. Oops! It's quite a big bigger than the Miyoo Mini. I'm not sure about this when I have the RG280V. Miyoo Mini is impossible to get where I live but Anbernic's RG35 line is easy to obtain so I guess that makes my choice for me. ;D
I have a Mini but I'm actually getting this. The Mini is great but it's actually *too small* a good chunk of the time and my pocket can handle quite a bit more. This seems about as compact ad a 3.5in screen can get.
I have yet to finish watching your video, but I'd like to point out (before I forget) that: 1- anbernic is advertising it as open source, so I believe the community will recieve the necessary info. 2- the ram is underwhelming, but it is still double than miyoo mini's.
You should do the Blood Roar test for PS1 Emulation and the StarFox, Yoshi's Island, and Marvelous test for SNES emulation. Also I recommend the Frogger GBA 1&2 and Tobu Tobu Girl tests to test the Dpads.

I bought one of this yesterday, very excited, I just want to play GB and NES, already got a controller for my phone where I can play PS2, 3DS etc, or my pc for Switch, PS3

I know this is not the same, but when I started getting passionate about emulation I remember that my old phone was a Xiaomi Mi9. With that phone I remember I installed emulators for GameCube Nintendo Wii and others, and in regards to the GameCube I was able to finish Zelda and Luigi’s mansion perfectly with no delays of any sort. I believe you might be able to find a refurbished one for cheap, and as that device has Chromecast you would also be able to stream your game on a television for example, and at the same time you would be able to use wireless headphones and a controller. Worth considering it (plus wifi and 4G)
The proportions are off to me. Probably because they copy pasted the button layout of the 353V minus the analog sticks. So there’s a ton of empty space at the bottom

You should do a bootup and wake-up time comparisons, or how long does it take to start playing from the time you grab it. I think being able to quicky jump back into a game is expecially important for mini handhelds
Looks nice and it's kinda what i was waiting for but the price is a scam... Discount to 55$ (and the image claims 49$) but the actual price adds 10$ for the microsd card, not to mention the 16$!!! shipping fees and in many place you have importing fees on top so you end up spending almost twice the money they claim.
I mostly play RPG games so save states/saved games are really important to me. If I play on this using the stock firmware, how easy or hard is it to migrate those saves on a custom firmware once one comes out? Are all the saves for all the systems on a single folder? Does the stock firmware still need to be shut down like other Linux firmwares or can you suspend/sleep the unit without battery drain?

Ok, I checked into this more: There is not a 'true' sleep function (per BlackSeraph) so there will be battery drain when you suspend the device. There is a new CFW coming from him that should help fix that. The save files on stock firmware are in each game's individual folder, and are standalone linux emulators, so it depends if the CFW will be using those same versions, RetroArch, or another emulator. No guarantee your saves will be compatible. Also, save states are wiped out when upgrading from base stock to the latest stock upgrade. So keep this in mind before making changes (I would backup your saves on your PC to be safe). Hope this helped! - Stubbs

Its a decent price but don't really see how this one improves over any of the RG353 devices and the Miyoo Mini is perfect for me for those quick gaming sessions with closed source software just an insult considering how much Anbernic relies on the community to improve its devices functionality... Just buy the 64GB because this devices doesn't have a reliable microSD. You should buy official SanDisk microSD right away. Just backup the content of the included microSD ASAP.

Can you connect a 8bitdo bluetooth controller when u put in the 8bitdo receiver in the rg35xx? and if yyes can you connect 2 or more controller via the dongle?
The $50 is a lie when shipping is not free. Typically shipping is free for these devices from China on Ali Express. My subtotal was closer to $70 after shipping and tax which kills the appeal imo. I ended up not going through with the order. I will wait to see if the CFW makes this thing worth buying. These companies seem to be treating their hardware like "Early-access" steam games expecting us to buy them incomplete. By the time CFW matures for this thing there will already be something better released at this rate.
$70 and below I find it to be a fair price, $50 is of course ideal (and crafty marketing), but I always planned for this to be $70 at a minimum. I hope they go back to free shipping, and are more upfront about this extra cost. Above $70 I'd go for the Mini or 353VS. - Stubbs
This, I stopped my purchase when I saw it was close to 70 with shipping. Started thinking just for a bit more could pick up a rg351v or a rg353vs... etc.. Now that I see the closed firmware too, I am so glad I didn't finish the order. I am lucky that I was able to snag a miyoo mini recently so my super mini retro player fix was met. This looks "too big" for that category and I would go for the rg280v in that category. And with thinking more on the size and price I start looking at others handhelds in the 70 to 100 dollar range.
@@Pridetoons I have all sorts of handhelds and the Miyoo Mini runs flawlessly for me… though not with the stock OS and stock SD card. Through PS1, the Mini works great. The added power doesn’t really add much here. I typically like the Anbernic buttons, but the Mini even did a good job with those. Really, the only thing this ‘might’ add is durability, but it’s also less pocket friendly. I think the Mini is ideal because it’s small. Any smaller and it’d be too hard to grip or see, any bigger and it won’t fit in a pocket easily with a case. This device is more jacket pocket friendly.

I still prefer the Miyoo Mini due to its size. The 35XX might be more comfortable to hold but I'm only using the Miyoo Mini for brief gaming sessions anyway so I'm not too concerned with that. If I were using it for hours at a time I might prefer the 35XX, but at that point I would want to use a device with a larger screen.

They are actually required by law (i.e. the GPL license is what grants them rights for redistribution) to release source code if they are modifying a GPL kernel. And we all know that Anbernic strictly follows copyright law in every way.
Got the rg35XX today and played Pokemon Unbound right after playing it on the Miyoo Mini and its awful on the rx35XX. The game runs horribly compared to the Miyoo so I don't see how this is an upgrade.

I’ll tell ya , until I swap the psx bios to the recommended. The thing was stuttering like a mumbles in a dick Tracy movie. Sound and video. Smooth and zero problems on any ps1 game now. I’m so happy with this. ( if I could get a better battery buuuuut that would just be greedy on how much everything else is)

I mean if you have bigger hands like I do the RG35XX seems like a better option. For example the Trimui Smart has a really small D-Pad smaller then the Trimui Model S. The Miyoo Mini even though it's great is way to small for comfortable gaming sessions with larger hands. I just got done playing with my Trimui Smart and my hands are kinda sore.
I got one of those "XXX in 1" little SUPER cheap handhelds from Five Below a while back (this one specifically is 400 in 1) that uses an identical form factor to this. Now, granted, the one I've got? The display isn't all that great, the controls are squishy as hell and the battery life very likely isn't anywhere near as good... but it's totally playable... and seeing this knowing what I've already got? It's the same form factor that I actually REALLY like, the control feel is likely going to be better and whatnot? I'm totally gonna get this thing thing. Having something in that form factor that is far more capable? Hell yes.
the miyoo mini is pocketable with a zippered eva case with a usb cable and a microfiber cloth. it’s cute with accessories already out there, including grips. it’s already customisable.it’s not the fastest but it is the most handy. this one isn’t as pocketable with a protective case or bag. i originally thought it would be a similar size to the mini but being larger seems a bit of a dealbreaker. if i wanted a bigger handheld then it should have more power like the 353v. i’m not digging the color options. white is probably the only plausible option. again, this one is in an odd pocket size compared to the mini and feels like something is missing with the extra space on the body. it’s like it is missing the benefits of both the mini and the 353… i don’t know. if i wanted to scale up then a steamdeck, odin, or gpd win4… then complement it with the mini. my mind might change on this but it doesn’t seem as compelling when i first saw it and then discovered it is bigger. if i was to pick a third mid-sized device it might be the retroid pocket 3+ from what’s out there.
I’m buying this to have nostalgia. So if the specs are super modern, then it would defeat the purpose. I would just get a ps5 if I want highest specs. So I’m happy with every aspect of this one.

These are great points. PS1 runs just fine on the Mini, so 256 being double is something people could point out more.

@@zespacedog Ah didn't mean to cover up the bezel in Canva, it will often snap to the borders, so yes, you're correct. The bezel is the same size as the 353V & VS.

It's not about the power of the device but what you can do with it, onion OS is extremely polished, ambernics OS isn't

I’ll tell ya , until I swap the psx bios to the recommended. The thing was stuttering like a mumbles in a dick Tracy movie. Sound and video. Smooth and zero problems on any ps1 game now. I’m so happy with this. ( if I could get a better battery buuuuut that would just be greedy on how much everything else is)

Yeah, that's the effect I was talking about during DKC2, not sure what that is. Could be software, or just how the screen is. Looking forward to Phawx's and Russ's reviews to look more into that. - Stubbs

Currently no but who knows maybe in the future with more mature CFW some DS might he playable, but I wouldn't count on it.

I mean if you have bigger hands like I do the RG35XX seems like a better option. For example the Trimui Smart has a really small D-Pad smaller then the Trimui Model S. The Miyoo Mini even though it's great is way to small for comfortable gaming sessions with larger hands. I just got done playing with my Trimui Smart and my hands are kinda sore.
I got one of those "XXX in 1" little SUPER cheap handhelds from Five Below a while back (this one specifically is 400 in 1) that uses an identical form factor to this.
Now, granted, the one I've got? The display isn't all that great, the controls are squishy as hell and the battery life very likely isn't anywhere near as good... but it's totally playable... and seeing this knowing what I've already got?
It's the same form factor that I actually REALLY like, the control feel is likely going to be better and whatnot? I'm totally gonna get this thing thing. Having something in that form factor that is far more capable? Hell yes.
the miyoo mini is pocketable with a zippered eva case with a usb cable and a microfiber cloth. it’s cute with accessories already out there, including grips. it’s already customisable.it’s not the fastest but it is the most handy.
this one isn’t as pocketable with a protective case or bag. i originally thought it would be a similar size to the mini but being larger seems a bit of a dealbreaker.
if i wanted a bigger handheld then it should have more power like the 353v.
i’m not digging the color options. white is probably the only plausible option.
again, this one is in an odd pocket size compared to the mini and feels like something is missing with the extra space on the body. it’s like it is missing the benefits of both the mini and the 353… i don’t know. if i wanted to scale up then a steamdeck, odin, or gpd win4… then complement it with the mini. my mind might change on this but it doesn’t seem as compelling when i first saw it and then discovered it is bigger.
if i was to pick a third mid-sized device it might be the retroid pocket 3+ from what’s out there.

I’m buying this to have nostalgia. So if the specs are super modern, then it would defeat the purpose. I would just get a ps5 if I want highest specs. So I’m happy with every aspect of this one.
