Were Adam and Eve babies? How would they know how to get babies out?

  • Kaitlyn is joined by biblical scholar Dru Johnson this week to answer some very practical questions about Adam and Eve: were they created as babies or adults? How did they know about babies? How would Eve have even known she was pregnant? Along the way, we’ll discuss how to read confusing biblical texts, how to ask good questions of the Bible, and why Genesis is so concerned with procreation.

    "the church has consistently taught that all humans are fallen from birth"
    That ignores the beliefs of eastern church, messianic jewish christians, various strands of old methodism quakerism and anabaptism, and arguably the early church.
    Also, if we're going by Augustine, this is the guy who's doctrine of original sin included the beliefs that sin comes from our testicles and that unbaptised babies go to hell.

    Male/female doesn't have anything to do with defining being made in the image of God. The animals were made male and female but not in the image of God.

  • @JustClaude13

    If you take Genesis 1 as the literal story of creation, then Adam and Eve were created as adults. If you read it as the story of God's sovereignty over creation then where Adam came from is beside the point. The point is that God elevated Adam as the caretaker of His garden.
    Saying Adam was molded from dust is meaningless in that story, since we're all dust. We're born of dust and return to dust. The important thing would be that Adam and Eve were elevated above the animals as God's representatives on Earth.

    Just want to point out that intersex people exist and are still ultimately created and still have inherent humanity despite not being within the sex binary..we may need to find some better language that affirms rare exceptions…it doesn’t at minimum seem affirming to those who are born intersex to say “being male or female is inherent to being a human”

    • @allie9928
      @allie9928 2 місяці тому +2

      This is only an issue if you hold the inaccurate view that 'intersex' people fall outside of the sex binary.
      The term 'intersex' is an unfortunate misnomer as it makes it seem as if these individuals are somehow between the sexes.
      Humans only ever have the potential to produce one of two gametes, ova or sperm. Males produce sperm and females produce ova. Some humans experience genetic and/or developmental abnormalities in utero such that their progress along these two developmental pathways is disrupted (sometimes leading to infertility or an ambiguous appearance but not always).
      But remember a person's sex isn't classified by the appearance of their genitials, it's determined by the gametes their body has developed to produce (if unsuccessfully).
      That's why 'disorders of sexual differentiation' has become one of the more preferred terms as these disorders clearly manifest along the established sex binary.
      So there are two kinds of people: Men (with and without DSDs) and Women (with and without DSDs). So actually yes, "being male or female is inherent to being human."

      @@chrislucastheprotestantview we don't have their remains to examine. But we do have an earth that appears to all honest observers to be billions of years old. That would be a strange trick for god to play - like the children's story about the devil burying dinosaur bones to fool scientists

    • @theonlyguyontheleft
      @theonlyguyontheleft 2 місяці тому +2

      If this were the case since we see stars that are billions of light-years away, God would have had to create streams of light that look like stars that never existed. Fossils of animals thar never existed, etc. The argument is that this would be deceptive in a way that the first two people being created ex nihilo would not, since they are the only people and are not confused by their own creation.
      This is setting aside that much more plausibly, it's a creation myth about the relationship between knowledge and human suffering that never literally happened.

    • @bkucenski
      @bkucenski 2 місяці тому

      Some people would rather pretend God is playing tricks with fossils than admit they are confused about how the world works. The Bible goes back to the start of agriculture which even accord to the worldly view, was about 11,000 years ago. Native Americans often lived in caves just thousands of years ago. Most people have a very Eurocentric view of how humans "evolved." Turns out, your house and your means of gathering food has nothing to do with evolution.

    Hi, I'm sort of a fan of the holy post cuz you guys seem like not Marjorie Taylor Green type Christians, I myself am an atheist. I don't understand, how to college educated, really smart articulate people can discuss the details and specifics of at best an allegory. I have several rabbinical friends, who will tell you that the story in Genesis is an allegory. It's okay that you believe in a deity that wants you to have presents on Christmas and all that stuff, and he cares about you I get the need for that, but to argue, or discuss the specific points of a fairy tale is too much for me. I can't watch this show. Please discuss topics that are relevant for today. Things that are happening now in our society and our culture. So many are at each other's throats. Christ called himself the Prince of Peace, I'm sorry but this is dribble.
