All praise to JJ. Seriously, man. I followed the saga from PTricker-era, and I'm a hueg fan of yours. Your interpretation of Nielson stuff is pretty true to his habits. He tends to play as minimally as possible. If he can do it with one hand, hammering everything on--then he will. He's busy throwing picks and whatever old rockers do who've gotten tired of their oeuvre. Either way, a BIG shout out to you and high five to PTricker too. GREAT stuff.
one of the local bands in the area covers this ..i was shocked but they did a great version ... always loved this tune... thx for the post .. you amaze me still :-)
I believe it's the opening to all their concerts. Saw them two nights ago and they opened with it. (And they closed with Goodnight Ladies and Gentlemen)
Thank you again for the lesson. Love Cheap Trick! Rick is my favorite songwriter. His melodies and harmonies just make playing guitar fun. I wished you would do their entire catalog . Your technique and approach is really worth practicing with.
JJ - Obviously you know classic rocks songs inside and out. But when you are playing solos - are you going by a memorization of the fingerings, or do you "hear" the intervals and that's what leads your fingers? I hope the question makes sense. Anyways, very appreciative.
It depends on what kind of music I'm playing. If I tried to play gypsy jazz, I'd be lost. Blues-based rock comes pretty naturally, as I've been listening to it and playing it for nearly 40 years.
Has any band ever done power pop better than Cheap Trick? I think not.
The best show opener I Couldn’t agree more. .. thx for the lesson

Thanks for this! Rick Nielsen is my guitar idol, but I play nothing like him. I'll have to watch your videos and learn a few things!
Looks like Pete's #5
Long live rock mate
Cheers 🍷
Opening of “.....Budokan”. Awesome.

Yessss!!!
It was originally written as a soundcheck.
Wore this album out when I was a kid. Some of the best lessons on UA-cam thanks James!
RIGHT? Simple and oh so satisfying!

Love this tune! Saw Cheap Trick for the first time at (I think) Chicago Fest in 1980. Thanks to my big sis for taking me!

Nice Steve Jobs shirt!
Hey James James your lessons are great. I was wondering if there are any bands/albums that you think are underrated? Thanks again for your lessons
Jukebox the Ghost!
I've never seen a pick up/selector set up like that before, was it custom made?
It's a replica of one of Pete Townshend's Les Pauls.
Another great lesson. Man, I LOVE that Townshend les Paul. Was that a Gibson custom shop creation, or did you build it?
It's not one of the Custom Shop models, I bought it from a guy who converts Deluxes to Pete Townshend replicas.
