    Can someone please explain to me what that guitar player in the middle is doing..?

    • @ryanmcneilly2469
      @ryanmcneilly2469 10 років тому +1

      That would be Hans Zimmer playing the guitar.
      In At World's End, when Jack, Barbossa, and Swann meet Jones, Will, and Beckett on the deserted island, you can hear Zimmer's electric guitar riff in the music. The actual song on the soundtrack is "Parlay." When Zimmer re-did "The Black Pearl" theme music, he added in the guitar.

    • @HarrisonKingMusicOfficial
      @HarrisonKingMusicOfficial 9 років тому +1

      Ryan McNeilly I think you will find Terji is talking about the guitarist who just seems to be swinging around in the middle (not Zimmer) who appears to literally be playing constantly even when the texture goes down to basically nothing, and still I can't hear any guitar - its almost like a "who can spot the celebrity guest who isn't actually doing anything" scenario. I may be wrong, but unless my ears and eyes deceive me, it just looks and sounds like he's doing nothing at all.
      In regards to "adding the guitar to the black pearl theme music" - that is simply inaccurate. You're right that it is "Parlay" - However...firstly, it's in fact Gore Verbinski the director who physically played the guitar heard on this track (their budget was running low so Zimmer simply used Verbinski for this) - Secondly, this motif/riff is based on the 'New Love Suite', which was written specifically for 'At World's End' as the main recurring theme within the movie - in other words, it has nothing to do with 'The Black Pearl' at all - the guitar riff heard is derivative of the leitmotif for the 'New Love Suite' and is there to give the scene a truly Western feel.
      Listen to the falling harmonica notes in 'Parlay' - compare these to the almost identical falling harmonica notes heard in the final duel from "Once upon a time in the West' (Music composed by Ennio Morricone) - Morricone is one of Zimmer's main influences, and it is a homage to him. I found that really fascinating how similar they are! Enjoy!

    • @N0xiety
      @N0xiety 9 років тому +4

      You can clearly hear the little scratching noise coming from the guitar player after 02:12 ... It's just another sound to enrich the background. You might not always hear individual sounds of instruments but the fact that they are still playing at the background what makes the music so damn rich...

    • @outcastorange
      @outcastorange 9 років тому

      Harrison King I think he's intentionally scraping the strings to mick the ticking sound from the music box in the movie. He's constantly scraping and it's in time and he may as well play the right cords to color the sound too. At least I hope that's what he's doing. Also, sorry for three weeks old commenting.

    As much as i love Zimmer's works, i have to say its obviously not a live performance, only a few member of the orchestra can not possibly reach that sound, and this guitar playing, cmon he should have been the one who conducts or shit :D Ok maybe a few parts are live, but theres a massive playback in the background, sadly : (

    • @SpectorEuro4
      @SpectorEuro4 9 років тому

      Konyigery Only the guitar... but the rest aren't playing. Plus the guitarist ( not hans zimmer) isn't doing anything but strumming without volume to add "noise" he isn't actually playing along the song.

    • @stephsjunk
      @stephsjunk 9 років тому +2

      Best Metal I'm sure the people you see are actually playing, but they're definitely doing so over pre-recorded backing music, since what you hear is obviously played by a full orchestra and there's only a single euphonium and trombone in the lot... not to mention there's no conductor. :3 Idk sometimes you just don't want the nightmare of having to deal with a 100-piece orchestra, and this still sounds wonderful.

    Um, the guy above just called him a modern day Mozart / Beethoven, not realising exactly how genius those two were. Hans Zimmer is not nearly on their level, despite how good he is. I really do admire his music and I think he can create some of the most stirring music in the modern music world, but I myself am a composer so I have very high standards. Considering this, he still rates highly on my scale. He's just not in very top circle.

    @outlanderfrog That honestly sucks. I went back and watched the video and realized what I thought was a crack under the stage was the rest of the orchestra, but no it's water. I miss full orchestra performances. Especially for something like this. It would have been fantastic to hear. But some people had to create the music in order to prep for the event. I'm glad they're all not electronic sounding pieces of crap. Real music with real instruments are better.

    @tere538 Hm, really? I tried listening to them 3 times. None really make me feel as much as this actually. Yes, i agree that it fit the movie, BUT! i do not even think the movie is good actually. It's just an average movie compared to POTC2 & POTC3. Or maybe it's just my expectation is too high for POTC4. But oh well I think POTC4 goes mostly for creepy and eerie feel. Not mt taste i guess? I like something exciting where music feeling goes like a rollar coaster. Something me feel 'climax'. Lol.

    His music is good, but I just can't give all that much credit to a man who, yes, comes up with the medoly, progression, etc, but then hands that off to someone else to do the actual ORCHESTRATION, and then takes all the credit. He doesn't know anything about an actual orchestra. His music is very good, yes. But compared to people like John Williams, who writes all the parts, conducts, etc...Well.

    @Be7oxky Then please explain to me what happens at 2:20 where the cello's have their repeating part, and they stop playing, but somehow their music keeps going. This is recorded, they may be playing along, but a music track is running for what the audience hears. There may be cello's behind the stage where no one can see them, which highly unlikely, because they would be way off from just trying to listen, without a conductor.

    i like this version more, i enjoy seeing this musicans doing what they want to do - making great music - and because this one has more "essence" you can here this intruments more clear, ot like in movie-album version - thast was cleared by computer, etc..and "fogged", if they would use so clear sound of instruments in movie you would concentrate more on soundtrack than whole video

    Somehow I just started to laugh when I checked the latest comments on the page.. It`s kind of funny to watch people, who don`t even know the notes, to argue about this kind of stuff, either jealous or stupid, don`t care, I just personally want to enjoy the music, because obviously it isn`t any of your`s sorry asses who composed this theme, so I`m completely fine that it`s under Zimmers name untill somebody can really prove that it shouldn`t be. Just enjoy this masterpiece, tha`ts what I do.

    You are proving your own point perfectly. Perhaps before you comment on someone else's level of education, you should go back to school yourself. Any third grader can tell you that "your rather uneducated" is improper English, and immediately discredits any remarks that follow.
    The correct word to use is "you're rather uneducated", which translates to "you are rather uneducated".

    And to all those who can't stop comparing Hans Zimmer to John Williams (or other film composers): Both of them compose excellent music, they have just completely different styles.
    For example, I think that Howard Shore is probably the guy for atmospherical compositions, John Williams is good at subtle things and Hans Zimmer is the master of emotions. But that's just my opinion.
    Whatever your prefer, I'm glad for all this beautiful music these guys have brought to the world. Thank you, really.

    If there's one guy I'd ever like to meet it's Hans Zimmer. I absolutely adore him, and the fact that he's German like me makes it even better (just kidding ;) ).
    Seriously, who cares if he reuses his themes? That's one of the things I particularly enjoy about his work. For example the love theme in PotC3: depending on the situation it stands for desire, for desperation, for joy or for sorrow. Absolutely incredible.

    I'm all for some Hans Zimmer goodness, but couldn't he have chosen a better guitar? Or at least wiped it down a little? Sheesh.

    @koixfish It is unfortunate. I love live music too. That's just how Hans likes to work however. He's not classically trained, and rumor has it he can't even read music. So the fact that he creates such good scores at all is amazing!
    That said, there is a possibility there were more musicians hidden, it is a large island with an underground, but not likely.

    THUMBS UP IF HE SOULD GO ON A WORLD TOUR
    Lets show him that watching a live performance like that would be a dream come true to a lot of people everywhere. Less than 3000 likes is probably why he doesn't think of going on tour..
    Read this while listening to the music and try to imagine what would be a live concert that you'd have been part of since the very beginning!
