This pianist is a gem. I love his phrasing in Chopin, his staccato, his voicing in Bach, his ornamentation, his pedal, his dynamics. I think he is one of the best not only today, but in the history of piano.
Grigory Sokolov for Bach - One Of The Best Performer For Some Pieces (can be discussed - for which Pieces), Grigory Sokolov for Chopin - The Best Living Performer (can be discussed - among the living only), Grigory Sokolov for Rameau - The Best All-Time Performer (can not be discussed - nowadays)
Breathtaking ! One of my top five pianists. I saw him live 8 or 9 years ago, unfortunately with a program I wasn't too keen on. This program here would have been ideal !
@@justinandmaxgames5472 I have to admit that I forgot what it was, sorry. I think it must have been some Wiener Klassik like Beethoven or even Mozart, maybe even some Rachmaninoff or Brahms _(both which I should have remembered)_ . I know Beethoven was one of the greatest musical geniuses to have ever lived, but for the life of me, I cannot find my ecstacy in his works, except in a few moments. It's possible he closed with Rameau. But all I really remember is that he didn't play either Bach or Chopin and that he seemed not to be enthusiastic to play at all. Kind of "finished the job".

I like what he does in the middle section of fantasie impromptu. The dexterity in the other parts is like well oiled pistons of a Ferrari. Impromptu no.3 is slower than usual -but has it's own charm-I prefer if a bit quicker with a more graceful flow.like here ua-cam.com/video/4Qw9dwmyths/v-deo.html
Too bad he hasn't recorded more. Like Richter, there isn't anything he can't play. Listen to the Gould-like playing in the Partita, a cheeky nod to Gould (whom he liked, btw). This guy's got a sense of humour, as well as playing Bach BETTER -- as in MUCH BETTER -- than the current crop of Bach "specialists." I guess that's a mean thing to say. But it's true.

Yes as well as Rosalyn Tureck

What was on the program you weren't so interested in? Was it one of his Rameau concerts?

if i could send a human to another planet to represent the music of the human race it would be sokolov playing it
lIVE i HOPE, WITH HIS CHOICE OF MANY PIANOS....BIG ROCKET NEEDED.....
It would be an absolut lie about human race. It is info about God and his son: J.S.Bach and G.Sokolov
Uno dei maggiori interpreti bachiani

You might do well to learn the difference between "its" and "it's," music-lover.
I agree in your comment about impromptu nr 3 where a more moving and driving tempo is missing and leaves a certain boring feeling.
