For everyone talking about avocados: they’re anywhere from $.70 to $1 where I live. It depends on where you are. Also, these videos are incredibly helpful. THANK YOU.
Idk why ppl are focusing so much on the actual price of these ingredients when you know damn well these recipes will save u so much compared to buying any of these at a restaurant. even though it's not the exact amount u are still not breaking the bank
jack based because they are called “struggle meals.” Most if not all food you make at home is saving you money compared to a restaurant. The point of this show is how to eat cheaply and well. If it was just about saving money because you made it at home that’s basically any cooking series ever.
I don’t break the bank when I go grocery shopping but a lot of what we can afford is boxed meals with very little veggies. This series is great for me and my husband because it’s great for meal planning and weekly meals. A lot of the ‘upfront’ cost of stocking the pantry is where it kills people
@@darkwaltz00 Not really. Walmart, store brand Olive Oil, Mustard, Mayo, Hot Sauce, Salt, Butter, Peppers and Sugar will cost you less than $20 and will last you at least a month. If you cook 40 meals a months between dinner, lunch, and breakfast, that is less than 50 cents extra per meal. On Average, his meals will run you $3.00-$4.00 per servings, which is by any mean, way cheaper than eating out If you can't afford that, you don't have a food problem, you have an income problem
@@athas12 3-4$/serving is 250 or more per person per month, for a young family of 4, that's can be a lot of money. The reason these are called struggle meals is because it is designed for those, as you put it, with an "income problem".

Hey, Frankie! I don't have access to an oven. If I've got just a microwave and a single hot plate...what can I do? I'd love an episode where the oven doesn't come into play. Consider it a dorm/barracks room challenge.
As someone with the same thing, stew /soup sort of stuff is very nice. Using canned tomatoes (the ones with actual tomatoes/tomato chunks), which are like 40 cents where I live, adding in pasta(lasagna leafs), beans, or meat whenever it is possible is very easy to do when you only have one stove top, if you search for one pan meals you'll find a lot of recipes now luckily
Magic color-changing plate from the year 2100.. lol.. I just discovered your channel.. you are very funny! Great tips.. I've watched like 10 of your videos.. good job!
Made the tuna melt tonight and it was SO GOOD! You can eye the amt of chips / onion/ celery he uses. Add more or less based on your preference. I only used one can of tuna - drained. Also used Sriracha in place of the hot sauce. This was freaking delicious. Even my husband loved it. 100% will be making again. Thank you Frankie - you're the best. :)
The first season you guys put the actual amounts, temps, and times in the description. Why are they not present in the second season? I don't want to over cook or undercook something that you just said "throw in the oven".
Once you've got the basics under your belt cooking is pretty intuitive. Eventually you just gotta take off the training wheels and learn by trying, observing, tasting, etc.
love these videos, i have learnt so much, not just the recipes but also how to store food to last better and how to use things that have longer shelf life!
I LOVE these videos!! They've given me some creative ways to not feel as broke lol! But I will say I CRINGE whenever he opens the packets 😂😂😂 if you rip the corner off you can get more out and not get your hands messy!
I never thought about putting crumbled chips inside my actual tuna. I always put chips inside my tuna sandwich...as a matter of fact, I won’t eat a tuna sandwich without potato chips!! I’ll have to try this!
I think most of the people commenting on prices are missing the point. He is showing that to eat cheap you don't have to eat prepackage meals. You can eat meals...made fresh without the preservatives that food companies put in prepackage meals. Struggling to make meals is about price but also about showing you the ability to make good meals quick and using quality ingredients.
@Angie Gomez guacamole and avocado salsa are similar but different. It's open to interpretation...it can be whatever you want it to be. In Malibu, guacamole is thick and creamy, as to where fresh avocado salsa is chunkier with pieces of cilantro, etc. But, that is what we call it, tourists call it guacamole...lol. It is whatever you want it to be
I found it more of a spread, guacamole where I’m from and what I’ve been around is basically adding pico de gallo to mashed avocados and lime juice. (Not always salted but to your preference. I prefer a tiny bit of chili powder in mine as well for kick if not for tacos or burritos.)
I would love to have a drawer like that, i love mini's but in Belgium we often don't have free packets of things like mayo, ketchup, hot sauce, butter... You pay extra if you want them even in school you pay extra for those. It's around 50 cents - 1 euro for one packet (around 10ml) So it is better to get yourself a jar of mayo (500ml) for 72 cents or a jar of mustard (370ml) for 45 cents or a stick of butter (250g) for €1.49 in a store like Aldi.
Still helping people years later! Thank you for showing me more ways to use canned meat- TBH, I think I should start buying alot of that more often, rather than "proper" meat, since I'm rather spontaneous about what I want.
Really like the series and i know that even if the prices aren't 100% accurate, the recipes are still cheap. I just wanna see how they calculate stuff like the prices of a juiced lime? $0.18? how much is the zest worth? so many questions.
So my dorm doesn't allow any cooking appliances besides a microwave and fridge are there any healthier meal options besides getting frozen meals or going to the dining hall?
Does your dorm floor have a community area or kitchenette somewhere in the building? Try asking at the dorm office or department of residence. The various dorms I was in while at university had a small kitchen in one of the lounges on each floor, or a kitchen in one room in the basement.
The reason this show exists. You've spent a ton of money on take out (cuz you lazy), which is why your packet stash is so huge, and now you have no money for take out and a ton of packets. Time to get creative with the eggs, noodles, left over chicken and packets you now have wasting away in your fridge.
Yeah, the money thing always confuses me. I can’t just buy 1 egg, I usually have to buy a whole dozen, a half dozen, and in some cases a 4 pack. I guess if you’re trying to stretch your food out and make the money stretch? But I would still have to spend a good amount of money beforehand for the ingredients regardless lol.
He’s referring to cost per serving. Obviously you’re not going to eat a dozen eggs in one sitting. You’ll use them over the course of a week. Same with avocado. You’ll get multiple servings from one avocado, but you still have to buy the whole thing.
