+mweba1 And minus mentioning the *knob*. Missed opportunity there. Something like *and my knob is in backwards* or something. I don't know. Mister Regular is better at that.
Dang. I weighed my g37s purchase with the g8. I went with the g37s because the performance was close. But g37s can't be tuned easily. This guy is easily making 100 more whp with very little mods. I chose wrong lol
+Mitchell Mitchell Maybe chose wrong for performance but those GM interiors are cringe and though the LS is pretty reliable the Infiniti is probably better for overall reliability. Sad that the G8 with all that power probably gets way better mpg than the G37s.

Finally! I've been waiting for Matt to do a "One Take" on a G8 GT. I wanted to hear his constructive criticism on it. Thanks Mike for letting him take yours for a good run. The Aussies made a great balanced RWD V8 as usual. I drive mine year round here in the Northeast and love it.
Regarding the shifting, when you accelerate, you get pushed back into the seat hence pulling back to shift up's more logical. That's why sequential gearsticks work that way. Vice versa when breaking, you get pushed forward so pushing forward takes less effort or balancing with your body.
Thank god someone else gets it!!! My BMW is the right way around. Pull back to up shift and push forward to down shit. Well if I don't use the paddles.
I just sold my dark grey metallic G8 and this makes me wish I didn't! :( You know you have a nice car when every time you park it you always glance back at it as you walk away. I live in Canada and with winter tires it was a great all year round car. The traction control worked great in the snow.
+scanspeak00 Don't count them out yet. every time you think they are gone or about to be they have this insane ability to rise from the burning ashes once again.
I loved the 6.0 liter GTO. The interior was amazing for it's day and it had serious power for late 2005. Having 400hp for a relatively affordable car was unheard of back then. I remember driving one and the tires would chirp everytime the auto tranny would shift and was in utter amazement.
I feel this guys the king of pointing out the obvious... you watch the videos and are non the brighter about cars afterwards. Its most interesting to see the types of individuals that own the car. Hear what they know and their actual opinions and facts about ownership. Aside from personal opinions and experience driving a broad range of cars its always good to have actual substance and factual knowledge to share in quality Automotive videos geared for this type of entertainment.
You guys worried about G8 supply in future dont worry, Chevy SS is just the newer GXP G8 currently being sold w LED lighting and nicer guts, Also US police 'Caprice' (Saudi Luminas) L-76 cars will be at auction for $8-10k all day long pretty soon for the ultimate rental Sleeper
Gotta respect true car people that literally understand & know/learn things about there car.. Like this guy stated having the ls2 bottom end with ls3 top end & unique cam shaft vs you asking some one "what makes the car so special" & your like "hell idk" then you Are not exactly a car enthusiast if you honestly can't tell some one the difference of the models & what yours does have vs not have.. Take the tme to research & learn your cars & you might be surprised. Awesome video i love seeing the owners facial expressions when you really begin to lean onto it as if there worried there car is going to break down out something lol
if any yanks or Aussies are thinking about getting one of these even the older ones from the 90s do it they are great cars thanks for the awesome video too matt Farah glad you haven't sold out like all the other journos
Houston Texas? I've got a 86.5 Porsche 928 just down the road if your itching to drive another one. Its the last of the old body cars. I might even be able to throw a line out and find a GTS with a cool owner to put you in touch with.
+TheSmokingTire I thought as much. You still need to get a GTS on the show. There's only a handful in the US and they were an amazing swan song for the 928.
As a current V6 owner I would advise against getting a G8 with the V6. The worst part about the car is the Slow, Sloppy & Inconsistent Transmission. It's practically unbearable without a Tune. The Interiors are also prone to squeaks & rattles. It is otherwise a very reliable car in my experience.
I know people want the gxp but this is probably one of the best dailys. Great looking, enough power to leave the engine mostly alone and still have a lot of fun, room for the family, and for stop and go city traffic that auto transmission... and I still want the gxp
Sweet ride, looks and sounds fantastic. These things are current and future classics, I really doubt you are going to lose money buying a clean, low-mile example.
absolutely, Matt, that shifter is backwards! way funner to kick the auto-stick backwards for the next highest gear, then trying to push it forward. much more natural feeling the other way around. almost a deal-breaker for me, and i'd take the auto-stick (in the right config.) over a couple of stupid paddles as well! and that's that, jack!
5:55 "... that really masks speed." You have no idea. I let my father borrow mine to go to Indy and he was merging onto the interstate at a 105 mph before his passenger asked "Who are you racing?". Very fast, very fun, very underappreciated and very sadly missed.
if you have steered one you would understand the comparison. sweet turn in. chatty steering, sweet powerdown, excellent damper control. and loves an arm full of oppy lock. well the commodore ss does. and that's what this is.
I've been waiting for the G8 GT one take for some time, glad a fellow G8 owner knew his stuff :) Side note, G8 owners hate when you ask/call it a G6, so don't.
+Frankly Ratratiano it's only too bad they don't sell it in the UTE version here. i know there are right and left hand drive kits you can order here and have a company in California "build" them for you here but it's not the same. plus it's way more expensive going that route too.
I bought a brand new 09 G8 GT in 2008, still have it, it's tuned, got ram air induction and a few other things, I had the resonators taken off, don't know the HP but it's fast. It's got about 138,000 miles on it and runs like a top. I'm going to look into a Solo axel back system, the drone still drives me nuts after almost 8 years, haha!
Fuck'n Straya! ... However while I used to like the VE Commodore, I'm always cautious around them 'cause they're cop cars... Also, BK Performance Wheels have two-toned them and turned them into the iconic bogan car of choice... This dude's "Pontiac" is pretty cool, would have been better if it was manual :)
+TheSmokingTire If you ever have a meet here or go to one, I'd travel down there. There's some surprisingly canyon-esque roads a little north west of San Antonio, heading out to Comfort, TX. Surprisingly new, and in the middle of nowhere.
+Ian yes I drove the COBB Ecoboost Mustang on a very nice road outside austin. We did the /DRIVE Texas Special last year there as well; it was good. But like I said, so few.
I don't get why car manufacturers keep making the shifters backwards. On VWs they are backwards, on Porsches they are backwards, on Audis they are backwards, but on a much more pedestrian Mazda it is the right way round.
It is so hard to watch these recent videos due to the fact that you are in Sam Houston territory. I go to their rival school, Stephen F. Austin State University. Great car man!
I've got a 2009 405 rwhp g8 gt you could drive if you come to alabama. I have to give it to Holden. They designed a great car. I discovered my first Holden part when I replaced the washer pump.
+iiL30N23 ls3 cam, titanium springs, dod delete, ls7 lifters, comp cam trunion upgrade, 3.27 camaro rear end, pace setter long tube headers, slp high flow cats, e3 plugs, dyno tune. I can't take credit for the upgrades though. I was lucky enough to buy it off a dealership after it was traded in. looking forward to forced induction if I ever get the cash though.
I got the series 2 2011 Ve ssv redline wagon had a supercharger put on it from Walkinshaw aswell as headers intake OTR induction when I find the money it's getting cammed!!
hey i have a solo mach exhaust in my solstice. actually drove up to their shop in ny and they put in the exhaust and downpipe. same day i got the trifecta tune. week before i put falken tires on it. anyways went up their with 260hp and drove hone with 340hp. what a fun weekend. the solo mach is nice because its not crazy loud and annoying.
thanks for acknowledging Australia this time! It's sad that Holden aren't going to make these anymore... what are 18yr olds going to flog when they are gone?!!!
Love these one takes.... but I'm hungry for some drone chase shots... and yes, I do understand that extra shots would no longer make these "one takes" and require a little extra editing. Maybe "One Takes+" ; Anyone at DJI watching? possibly a good partnership with TheSmokingTire.
+Ben No Depends what you mean by "freak accident"..... Pretty easy for an animal to absolutely destroy a car and I would not classify an animal collision as a "freak accident". I hit a raccoon going 40 in a 45 at night and it caused well over 1000 in damage. Absolutely obliterated my radiator and intercooler, bumper, grill, all types of stuff.
If Pontiac had lasted a couple more years, they would have brought the great looking Sportwagon over here. Wish they would've released the Ute before closing its doors.
You know you're making me immensely jealous right now, right? Freakin' government's trying to shove more regulations down our throats with high gas mileage, makes me sick.
The best Pontiac is a Holden! I really liked the Holden Commodore VF that I drove for a few weeks down in Aus even with a V6, I really want to find a G8, SS or even a PPV Caprice to have some fun with.
To be honest I prefer the more VE Commodore a bit more than the VF. Reckon it looks tougher, not too modern and I like the simple interior. Doesn't detract too much from the driving experience too.
Nice one Mike and nice video Matt. My 67k mi 09 G8 is almost the same, but with Corsa/kooks combo instead. If you make it towards Austin sometime, hit me up.
Nice episode =).. I own a '09 with similar mods except DOD delete and a ls9 cam and was debating on getting in touch with you since I hadn't seen one on the show.. I'm way up in Northern California though.. Maybe once I get my TVS 2300 and If your ever up this way I can get you in one with 200+ more HP =)..
I considered getting a G8 GT in 2008 before the GXP came out and completely wrote it off because it was only available with a slushbox. Bought my WRX in 2009 and have been VERY happy with it but am considering moving on to a V8 RWD car. Being a family man and the fact this thing has four doors and big trunk (my Subaru may as well have a second glove box for a trunk, yes its that bad) I may need to put these back on my radar. Would still prefer a manual but I don't think the prices on the GXPs are coming down anytime soon.
+Jake White I went the other way - from a wrx to a manual ute version of this. both modded, very similar speed but totally different feel, both great sound from 3" pipes. would recommend.
+Andrew Nash This and the GTO are like 95% Holdens, so we're good there; the Ute....well we got SVT Lightnings, El Caminos, and Ram SRT-10's to cover us (but yeah, I'd loooove a Ute over here).
+Godly Object El caminos were about as close to a aussie ute of that time, but the big pick ups (Raptor, Ram and etc) are good, but the Holden Ute is a "Sports Utility Vehilce" depends on of line work which is your slice of cake.
+Andrew Nash Ha, SUV here means big ass 4-door! The basic premise of being able to haul both ass and cargo though is still shared, even if the SVT Lightnings and Ram SRT-10's are more truck-like than the ute; that was more my point.
+Art Vandelay They come with V8's that run in the 13's without a blink-of-an-eye. Basically, they can take the produce to market one day, and take your ass to the track the next. Again; think SVT Lightning; a combo of raw utility and unapologetic mentalness in the way of performance.
+Godly Object perfect answer, Holden took their VF Redline Ute to the Nurburgring to prove it was the fastest production sports utility vehicle. I know the Ford Falcon Utes are on the same field as Holden Utes in Oz but the ford's run leaf spring rear suspension vs Holden's irs and upmarket HSV models get the MRC suspension that I believe comes on the new Chevy SS as well.
at some stage you need to come to Aus and drive a FPV. People are having HUGE results with a tune. Still love my commodores, my mates ls1 VY Screams like it was the devil. Both good cars, and Imo, different applications. Oh and you have to drive a V8 Ute!!! just do it on a track ;)
You were sort of right, it is somewhat a commodore but its actually a lot better. With holden they have their normal company and normal cars which the commodore is one, then they have this other thing called HSV (Holden Special Vehicles ) where they have their suped up cars that basically have the same look as the commodore each car in the HSV range has something a little different added looks wise anyway. The pontiac gt is more like the HSV GTS or maybe a Clubsport R8
2:10 "This is like a BMW E39 M5" . Reportedly the design team bought a BMW 5 series, and had it physically located in the design studios. Later the VE( 97/98 Commodore) SS's suspension was final tuned at the Nurburgring. BMW test their cars there. These are pretty much facts. My supposition is that this car was lent design inspiration from BMW under a royalty agreement. So many have said it rides like a BMW M5. My belief is it *is* an M5 essentially.
totally agree with what he said about the shifter..i have a b6 s4 with triptronic. ..up is shift up...I think it's backwards. ...should be sequential style.
+Aspen Look well actually he drove a 1000 horsepower honda oddessey! but either way that should t be a problem; my 07 shelby gt500 convertible already have 650 horsepower and the build is always ongoing
Hey Matt. I love this stuff you are doing but I have one request. Can you please put more bitrate for the video processing? I know it requires more time and so. But I just needed to write this down. Keep up !
Own the Aussie SS version of this, great car for the money, but they are really sluggish below 4K rpm in stock form, I know you can liven it up with a tune and cam but God dayum it drinks fuel enough as it is can't imagine with a cam and tune
It appears that the owner made a good choice with this unheard of exhaust as opposed to the cat-back that Magnaflow offers for this car. From my experience, the Magnaflow has bad drone on the freeway- and they really didn't sound this good.
I think the G8 and SS are very under appreciated. Big sedans with big V8s are my favorite type of car.
I would kill to own an SS. And then insurance would kill my wallet. lmao
+Dubya Bush Not underrated in Australia...It's all you see here
+Dubya Bush agreed. Also I always thought the jeep SRT8 was sick.
bardownaint $22, 000 with about 80-100,000km
The ss is way expensive though, I've only seen one in town but that's because the owner loves bowties.
That guy is super chill. You know he probably smoked 2 joints before this video.
Nah he's fucking nervous about letting someone else driving his car
😆
Are his knees weak? Are his arms heavy? Is there vomit on his sweater already?
+Conor O He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready?
Hahahahahaha
+1985usa what he wrote down..
+TheRondoExperiment The whole crowd goes so loud...He opens his mouth, but the words won't come out
+Juan Castillo he's choking how? Everybody joking now

Mr Regular makes a cameo at 0:48. :D
hahah I heard that too
+victor bozzo glad someone else caught that

I hear ya there brother
They go for 9-11 k now
I dont know you...but yeah you do.
So did you ever get you a true american v8 car?

never too late to trade in

G8 gt to this date is the best car all around that I have driven. Power and balance like no other car in its class/weight for the price.
Matt, thanks for confirming that the shifter feels backwards! I thought it was just my left handedness.
Thanks for the Flyby's/exhaust clips.
What a great sound! I like it.
This uses the Zeta platform which is also whay underpins the Camaro.Which also underwent testing in Australia.
Ali Ahadi But this is based on the VE Commodore which is late 06-13...so its the same as the last gen Camaro which was more i was on about.Cheers

Buy old ones , when a teen leaves highschool 10 years down the track ... A vf should be about 20 k
Ooh nice. I do love when people drive aussie cars and like em.
Reference the exhaust is it the solo Mach Shorty balanced or just the standard solo Mach Shorty
The Holden ve commodore/Pontiac g8 was released and sold in 2006 to Australia and New Zealand
Love these one takes.... but I'm hungry for some drone chase shots... and yes, I do understand that extra shots would no longer make these "one takes" and require a little extra editing. Maybe "One Takes+" ; Anyone at DJI watching? possibly a good partnership with TheSmokingTire.
I totally agree dude I wouldn't mind getting a outside view f
yeah for sure a outside view would be good
All they need is bolt ons and tune, and some 342 or 373 gears and its good to go.
Matt did you ever crash or break any of the One Take cars?
No
Lets hope that doesn't happen
+Ben No Depends what you mean by "freak accident"..... Pretty easy for an animal to absolutely destroy a car and I would not classify an animal collision as a "freak accident". I hit a raccoon going 40 in a 45 at night and it caused well over 1000 in damage. Absolutely obliterated my radiator and intercooler, bumper, grill, all types of stuff.
+MangoJuice I believe he had to write a cheque for a Civic, but that was out on a track in New Zealand I think?
That's a bad omen brother. People should keep those questions to yourselves lol Farah doesn't need to hear that nonsense.
True!!!
Maybe once I get my TVS 2300 and If your ever up this way I can get you in one with 200+ more HP =)..
hey man, are you still in texas? I have a 1977 Morris mini clubman with a jdm b16a that would probably get quite a few views..
+Sam no, these videos were shot a month ago. too bad, sounds fun.
Yeah.. Maybe on your next trip out here. Come summer time I wouldn't mind driving somewhere closer to you. It would be cool to get some publicity.
+Sam you sound like a hardcore attention seeker, and not even subtle about it. "hey Matt I want some views". douche
+THE TRUTH MACHINE Reking bullshitters everywhere! bro you can tell he's a douche by just looking at his profile mirror selfie lololololololol
+THE TRUTH MACHINE Reking bullshitters everywhere! I only mentioned views bc that's what makes him money, lol.
Is it my youtube or is 1080p 60fps not look like 1080p 60fps? Maybe the gopro's at 60fps or if they are set higher aren't getting the true resolution?
Too bad you yanks didn't get the Holden Ute imported. Missing out. #Aussie4life
+Andrew Nash This and the GTO are like 95% Holdens, so we're good there; the Ute....well we got SVT Lightnings, El Caminos, and Ram SRT-10's to cover us (but yeah, I'd loooove a Ute over here).
+The EDRgaming yeah but the HSV range has the LS3 with 6.2L displacement on the clubsports senators and so on..
+The EDRgaming I'm quite sure it's just called a Commodore SS in Australia
I'd say the G8 gt would be an SS commo and the gxb or whatever it is would be a clubby or a GTS
+Imad S i am from aus, the pontiac gt is far more powerful than a commodore ss
+DUB Productions maybe i think the g8 gt would be a bit more powerful than an ss commodore though
one of my favorite roads to drive on in this part of Texas
+MrMclarenmagic where is it??
Sounds incredible, well done!
Beautiful soundtrack. That V8 sounds glorious.
I'm no speed hunter less than 400hp for a 6.0cc..that's pretty low.
My hummer h2 with pretty much the same engine, 6.0 as well has 325hp
2:10 "This is like a BMW E39 M5" . Reportedly the design team bought a BMW 5 series, and had it physically located in the design studios. Later the VE( 97/98 Commodore) SS's suspension was final tuned at the Nurburgring. BMW test their cars there.
These are pretty much facts. My supposition is that this car was lent design inspiration from BMW under a royalty agreement. So many have said it rides like a BMW M5. My belief is it *is* an M5 essentially.
+Breen Whitman Yep.
totally agree with what he said about the shifter..i have a b6 s4 with triptronic. ..up is shift up...I think it's backwards. ...should be sequential style.
Matt whens that OneTake event going to be in NC
0:46 did anyone else think of Mr. Regular when he did that voice?
Will the real Slim Shady please drive up?
Can't wait to see the SRT-10 Ram in the background
matt your awesome man! call me crazy but your page keeps me going sometimes, my dream is to have you one take my car someday
+Aspen Look well actually he drove a 1000 horsepower honda oddessey! but either way that should t be a problem; my 07 shelby gt500 convertible already have 650 horsepower and the build is always ongoing
+George Hensley *has
Hey Matt. I love this stuff you are doing but I have one request. Can you please put more bitrate for the video processing? I know it requires more time and so. But I just needed to write this down. Keep up !
Hey Matt, you should do a one-take video of my 2006 Pontiac GTO with many many upgrades... Pushing around 500 hp, I'm located in upstate ny!
Own the Aussie SS version of this, great car for the money, but they are really sluggish below 4K rpm in stock form, I know you can liven it up with a tune and cam but God dayum it drinks fuel enough as it is can't imagine with a cam and tune
"And it's backwards." Reminds me of Mr. Regular
The G8 GXP is also offered in a Manual. Amazing cars :)
It would be cool if you could partner up with Hennessy motor sports to test a few of their cars out
Makes me miss my old G8.
It appears that the owner made a good choice with this unheard of exhaust as opposed to the cat-back that Magnaflow offers for this car. From my experience, the Magnaflow has bad drone on the freeway- and they really didn't sound this good.
here in aus i had the privilege of driving the HSV R8 manual with the LS3 (and some mods) and damn it's fast.
Now you need to come to Australia, and drive a falcon XR6 Turbo
