+Loebane It's like the opposite of Jay Leno's channel. His weird stuff is pretty boring (at least to me), but I really respect him showing it to the world.
oONoChanc3Oo yeah. But there was one dude that had the single cab and crew cab and he swapped the transmissions. So he has a 6 speed crew cab and automatic single cab
Peder Hansen If it were a 2-door short bed truck with the 8-Speed, 20+MPG would be very easy to achieve on the highway. The Charger and Challenger weigh around the same as the single-cab pickup truck, lol. I was leaning towards the sports-truck not really the trucky truck. A lot of people buy trucks just for the space and ride instead of actually using it for a truck.
Hilarious review. Once watching this, did anyone else think back to that old youtube video where that dumbass somehow rolled his SRT10 Ram while trying to do a burnout?
The owner of this car seems like a really fun guy i enjoyed the conversations! It's great that you get these oddball car/trucks every once in a while Matt....another great Vid!
+Worldwide Darts Also, larger wheels doesn't exactly mean larger tires. So if the sidewalls are shorter on larger wheels, it could be the same overall diameter as the stock setup.
in the beginning of the video you should just say "I have a rare form of tourettes where I sometimes say numbers that don't mean anything. they certainly don't correlate to the speed I'm going"
+BelviGER Or when they ask, just say you were taking artistic licence with the numbers for the sake of views. Everyone knows that people on the internet exaggerate things right?
I love my SRT-10 quad cab. The truck just puts a smile on your face when driving. I think that is the point of any nice vehicle. That being said it makes mustang and most corvette owners frown.
I worked at a car lot and we got 2 of these on trade from one guy. One was like this one with a Borla exhaust and it was a blast to drive! Great vid, guys!
+TheSmokingTire if I remember right this truck was rated at 7500 lbs towing capacity. Payload was 1200ish? The manual was only available in the regular cab and dodge recommended not towing with it. The quad cab was always automatic only. Great vid Matt!
+Dolan Turmp Trucks always get more EPA freedom than cars, so the opposite is more likely to be true. That's how we still had big blocks in trucks in the '90s even.
One day on an empty road in Houston a Ram RT-10 called. Hearing the cry of excitement big daddy ACR answered with gusto, Twin V-10s roaring in the midst of awesomeness! So cool how an ACR randomly showed up like tht! Wish y'all could've gotten some footage of it.
These are cooler in person than pictures / video. Had one come in while I was working at an auto shop, and the guy was pressuring the mechanic working on it (bent the exhaust tips and just needed them straightened) to take it out and do a burn out, that he wanted to kill the rear tires so he could replace them. We told him replacements on the rear were $800+ or something, and he didn't care. Now, the shop I worked for had literally just put in a new parking lot a day before, so the mechanic was hesitant...but I egged him on an he went for it. Exact same as this truck, red, auto and all. He barely gets the tires loose, and the owner is calling him a pussy, and says, "Watch this..." and chuckles...he gets in and mashes the gas, and I swear the truck didn't even squat a single milimetre, just stayed perfectly still while he did a near full minute, FULLY stationary burnout on the 22" tires or whatever those things where, and then just peeled off...there was a 2 inch deep groove in the freshly layed asphalt lol The brakes on that truck are something like 16" rotors on the front, with air ducts through the front bumper/inner fenderwell to keep them cool. It's a pretty neat truck, that's for sure. And the engine really is jammed as far back in it as they could. Certainly not what I expected from pictures and such.
This guy knows cars, you accept them for what they are. Matt if you think the windnoise is bad in that truck, wait till you get in any model year wrangler. I have a 2012 and it blows (I even have a after market headliner)
I remember going to a press event when this thing was released, I got to ride in the viper and the SRT10 truck. The truck blew my fucking mind lol. The viper was... well it was the viper. Who knew a truck like that could corner? Insane. The one I was in was a manual too... let me just say it surprised the hell out of me because I didn't expect it. Great video Matt. The owner seems like a great guy. :)
Beautiful! Work of automotive art! I run a 2002 SRT-10 model here in the UK, a V8 4.7 gasoline job, and it sounds just the same as the one you are showcasing here. In my opinion, Dodge Ram trucks are the ultimate vehicles! Just wish I could copy a pic of my baby on here. American trucks rule!
1) the SRT-10 has a 8.3 V10. 2) I think you're trying to say you have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500... or a 2002 Dodge Dakota. Both of those trucks were available with a 4.7 V8.
+2THXTRM My Dillon Optics sunglasses feature NIR lens technology, which is a second polarizer, sandwiched between two layers of lens. As part of the glare-reducing effect of the lenses, they are finished in matte colors, which makes them the perfect glasses for wearing on camera (they don't reflect the cameras or crew). If you go to our web site and click on the Dillon link to check them out, I'll send you a free t-shirt for supporting our sponsors!
+TheSmokingTire Do these sunglasses allow you to become a personal trainer as well by chance? @superspeedersRob Just kidding. Love the oddball reviews!
Totally agree with the "you bought a truck, you should use it." I think that applies to any car really. Why spend thousands of dollars on a car then just have it sit in the garage. I can only see you justifying that if you're making 10 times the cost of the vehicle per year.
givemeajackson I'm from Denmark and I'm not fat. But I think those trucks are really cool (not that Ram in particular, but more something like a Tacoma or similar). But due to gas mileage, road taxes and prices on big trucks here, I'm not going to get one, too much money out the window.
I like when you go to Texas or other states because you see and drive different cars over there. Its nice to see vans, SUV's, trucks, tuner cars, blah blah all that stuff. Instead of just two different types of vehicles.
The double cabs only came in an auto and had a slower top speed and acceleration compared to the 6 speed only single cabs I would love to see a one take of that one if you can find one
They've got great back roads in Austin, I'm surprised you have not gone to any of them. They're generally pretty open desolate, and some have great curves as well. Wondering if there was any reason in particular you didn't check them out?
Back when that truck was new, one of the Dodge engineers drove one in the One lap of America and did really well. All of the competitors were very impressed.
+Spooled You Matt is aware of this movement and openly said that sending your subscribers to bombard his channel with comments is not the way to do it. TJ should have just emailed Matt and he would do a new review
+robm425 Furthermore, TJ is really shitty at email. His average response time to the emails I sent him about it is like 2 weeks. if you want me to do the fucking video, you need to step up and at least handle the basic scheduling of it.
didn't that motor come out of a truck originally?? I remember them describing the viper saying they just put a truck motor in a small roadster. am I remembering this wrong. or where did this motor originate from?
The original blueprint for the viper engine was the iron block 8.0 V10 from the Dodge Ram 2500 V10, but Lamborghini then redesigned it (Chrysler owned Lamborghini in the late 80's and early 90's) and the Viper engines were cast in aluminum to shed weight.
You should review a tuned EcoBoost F150. I feel like it's the closest thing you could get to this truck today and it would be cool to see the comparison. I have a feeling you would like the Ford a lot better too. That and the F150 Lightning!
Ruby has a good sense of humor. I owned a manual regular cab one of these for all of a month, back in the day. Absolutely useless as a truck, no idea what I was thinking.
I just love the viper, even if it doesn't have as much of a place in today's world..and probably because of that I just feel like the viper SRT10 truck is the coolest truck around! The payload isn't useless, but it's not exactly high either. It'll never hold its own in a towing contest against a towing prepped 500hp vehicle, but I still love it and would tow with it until it drops, haha.
+thesmokingtire this vid along with the cobalt one are your best of recent. Odd ball cars with fun owners seems to allow for a great chemistry between you and them. More of this please!
+Tesparza0218 Dillon Optics, the official eyewear of The Smoking Tire! If you use the link on our web site, we will send you a free TST shirt if you buy a pair!
This is the dude from the Texas Truck Channel I’m assuming B4 there was a Texas Truck YT Channel. I recognize his voice. How cool Wonder if Farrah realizes this
Matt Farrah, this is exactly what I meant people appeal more to these down to earth reviews with cars that are fairly attainable to the mass public. When I soon order my cantilever with four link setup on my 96 Chevy 1500 I'm going have you review it when the time is right
Atleast 80% of the cars reviewed are 'fairly attainable'. Trucks are not predominantly what the "Smoking Tire" appeals to in terms of viewership, so a move away from the current vehicle spectrum could be detrimental.
+ricardo rocha I have tons of reviews of cars that are attainable to the mass public. Sometimes they do well, sometimes they do not. There is almost no correlation between "down to earth" car reviews and having a more successful channel. The most successful videos are modified exotic cars, modified high-end JDM stuff like Skylines and Supras, and very oddball shitty cars. with normal cars, it's totally hit or miss.
Exactly don't get me wrong I watch each one of your videos no matter what but I find it appealing to see vehicles that have huge followings behind them. I feel as though it would be nice to have classic auto restomods like jdm, euro, and american.
I live in the UK and I went to my prom in an SRT-10 Nightrunner edition that was actually imported from Texas, the guy who owns it who is my stepdads friend has and it chipped and fitted a supercharger should easily be 750-800bhp, the magniflow exhaust system is insane as well
mazen The EU forces petrol to be sold in litres but everyone uses MPG, the whole road network is in imperial, a lot of people still use imperial over here, so no I'm not a liar.
The SRT-10s with automatics have tow ratings of 7,500 lbs and 1350lb payload ratings. The ones with manual transmissions had 1200lb payload ratings and a recommendation from Dodge to not use the vehicle for towing. The sticks used the same transmissions as the Viper, which was not designed for that kind of duty.
Best truck of all time. I cant wait to get one . 05-06 in black or grey ! For a daily driver ! Dallas gas is cheap but really who cares about gas. 500hp, brembo brakes, leather and swede , sun roof, push start, its the best deal everything in one for about 15-30 . Way better deal then the new trucks
To the towing and payload comments...You can treat the auto versions like a normal truck as they have respectable ratings. The manual trans ratings are terrible for towing...
Facts lol. And if u can keep your foot out of it u can get a out 18mpg out of it total. But gas being cheap now who cares. If u drop the gears to 4:10s in these would pick a few mpg and drop the rpms on the hwy a few rpms
For having owned 3 Vipers and a Viper truck, this guy was wrong on a couple things about Vipers. The Viper V10 and the SRT-10 Ram V10 ARE the same motor. The exhaust doesn't route any differently on the '97 GTS he has versus an early RT/10 with side pipes, it still runs along the rockers, it just meets up in the middle behind the driver before dumping out the center in the rear. The pedal placement has nothing to do with it.
97 gts motor is way better to they are fully forged with the 708 cam from the factor . The 04 up-10 motors are weaker, no forged pistons and no 708 cam. Just more cubic inches more power but not as strong.
Now THIS is an awesome review. For some reason it's way more fun to look at the weird stuff than the refined high end things. At least off track.
Agreed
+Loebane +1. Also the owner is a cool guy. Would like to see him in is other cars as well.
+Doktor Zappergeck Definitely agree, the guy is super cool. I'd also like to hear his opinion comparing his different cars.
I agree! Love the one takes!
+Loebane It's like the opposite of Jay Leno's channel. His weird stuff is pretty boring (at least to me), but I really respect him showing it to the world.
6 Speed manual was in the 2 door only.
oONoChanc3Oo yeah. But there was one dude that had the single cab and crew cab and he swapped the transmissions. So he has a 6 speed crew cab and automatic single cab
@@ombre_blanco1725 6 speed in the single cab is better even though I got a cousin who has the truck in automatic crew cab even now and in black
@@ombre_blanco1725Dude, that’s awesome. I wonder how much work it takes to swap the manual into the QC. Quad-Cab with 6 speed is ultimate badass.
Doesn't love Vipers, but buys 3 of them and a Viper truck? Someone is lying :D Vipers are not for everyone, but boy are they lovable cars.
+Prodigy With a salvage title. I have seen some mid nineties ones in the 30s.
Please Dodge make another... this time with a Hellcat engine, 8-speed auto and 4W/AWD.
this
Peder Hansen If it were a 2-door short bed truck with the 8-Speed, 20+MPG would be very easy to achieve on the highway. A lot of people buy trucks just for the space and ride instead of actually using it for a truck.
Soooo a ram trackhawk?
I'm sure Dodge is working on something. I'd bet my bottom dollar they wouldn't be able to make enough of them.
+Tiny Turbo Hi fellow Abarther..... ;)
Hilarious review. Once watching this, did anyone else think back to that old youtube video where that dumbass somehow rolled his SRT10 Ram while trying to do a burnout?
Classic!

+Alex Cooper "Did I pop a tire?" lol

wow
whatever it takes.
haha just came off your channel brah. lifting and driving on a daileeeeeeee baseeeeeees
baby pleeeeeeeeease
This owner is super chill ... I like this episode
Rudy seems like a cool dude, sick truck too
What a cool guy.
welcome to TEXAS where the trucks are faster than the sport cars
+udaysaleen Hahaha no...
+udaysaleen the trucks are impressive, but their car scene is insane. We're talking huge power.
Ya'll heard of Stock Coyote?
udaysaleen true as fuck.
This had to be the fastest flyby yet! haha
Yeah. I was like wth?!
Ya he was whipping haha
Would the larger tires make the speedometer register the wrong speed?
.
+robm425 Ram SRT10's came stock with 22 inch wheels. These are +2 of the OEM size.
+Worldwide Darts Also, larger wheels doesn't exactly mean larger tires. So if the sidewalls are shorter on larger wheels, it could be the same overall diameter as the stock setup.
This must be my punishment for not using Google and getting the answer myself. I thought I asked a simple question. 😒
+Worldwide Darts Well it's pretty obvious that it would if they aren't the same size as the stock wheels. He might have gotten it corrected though.
apparently this guy was a baller LOL
in the beginning of the video you should just say "I have a rare form of tourettes where I sometimes say numbers that don't mean anything. they certainly don't correlate to the speed I'm going"
Yeah he should lie about having a debilitating disorder, not scummy at all man
+hildenbrandt21 Someone can't take a joke.

+Dwealdric Literally everybody, yes
lol

I love this owner so much. So honest about the shortcomings of his cars, totally owning up to them, and justifying them as still fun and worth owning.

probably not sonce the EPA is becomimg more strict.

I love this guy, within 20 seconds he goes " ok, what if I boot it!!?"

Yea they are both legends but Ram just feels even more angry when driving it.
DC Garage Ecoboost F150's are the Toyota corolla's of the truck world, no one cares about them. Trucks like this and the Lightning are special.
I love how he's down playing this monster of a truck. This thing is badass no way around it

6:28 any one else see him reach down to shift
lol uea
Lmaoo. Man i reach grab 2 with autos im surprised he didn't take it out of over drive and grab second .
I used a free program called tilegem to layout everything. Lots of options.

high revving. What does it rev to? Thought they were done by 5.5 or 6k right?

where are these backroads at??? i want to go
Where's the characteristic V10 sound?
Finally someone said it. Sounds like a V8. Really strange.
bigger displacement and longer stroke cause that. this engine is actually based on the dodge 5.9 v8, so it's not exactly made to sound exotic.

where in texas is this?

you guys go by liters, which are smaller. don't lie to yourself lol
One of the many reasons my car in London is a four-cylinder while the smallest-displacement car I keep in the US is four litres, lol...
+mazen Not true, they use both.
mazen The EU forces petrol to be sold in litres but everyone uses MPG, the whole road network is in imperial, a lot of people still use imperial over here, so no I'm not a liar.
+DeaKen002 you're saying that your gallon is slightly larger than ours because you are approximating 4 liters per gallon, right?
you need to review an srt4 lol
yeah he really does lmao.
Yess he does! I hope he just doesn't dog it lmao! They really are powerful cars!
+Kwezzy lol I hope so too man. I love my srt4.
+ComplexWork i've tried three times. In every case the car has broken a few days before the shoot and bailed. Figures.
+TheSmokingTire What a shock!! .... lol
Forget how does Rudy fit in a Viper, how does he fit in a 911? I hope we get to see his Viper soon, he was pretty awesome.
+WikdSeafood 911's are much roomier than Vipers
Is that 149 north of Montgomery?
What size tires do you have on your viper wheels
When an SRT-10 is your “beater”. 😂
Viper engine in a truck = sweetness
+vGannon - Also equals horrible gas millage :P
+Hunter Robertson If you buy this truck or any truck and you care about gas mileage you are looking for the wrong car
This i am well aware of, i just wanted to through that out there as a small little joke.
This truck sounds better then any Viper I've ever herd.
Other than the brand new 2015-2016 trucks, most to all pick ups have bad wind noise. Been in them all.
To the towing and payload comments...You can treat the auto versions like a normal truck as they have respectable ratings. The manual trans ratings are terrible for towing...
+S Foos The payload is 7500 pounds. www.trucktrend.com/truck-reviews/163-0508-2005-dodge-ram-srt-10/
ive seen an old 4cyl toyota truck tow a 4k lb car.
Rudy seems to be a great guy
I was guna ask when is the viper! and then you said next time...so no viper this trip? or next video!
these owners are always so on point to their respective vehicles
What brand rims are those?
Just srt10 viper replicas
Go ebay
When you pay less than 2 dollars per gallon, 8 mpg doesn't matter much. When you pay almost 6 dollars per gallon, it gets a little expensive...
