I have recently scavenged rubber mats of exactly this type from an illegal dumpsite in a local park - had no ide what I could use it for. Soooo... It’ll go under some of my benchtop power tools and what’s left over will clean my sanding belts and disks. Forever greatful! :)
It is surprising how many people do not know this trick. I always clean my belt sander with an old piece of HT pipe (polypropylene) and show that in several videos. And again and again I get comments from viewers who did not know that yet. It's great for the community when you present tricks that seem completely normal for you, as it will be new to anyone. Thank you for showing
Thanks a lot Sascha! I will have to try HT pipe too! With all the suggestions I might have to do a compilation/comparison video for different materials. 😄
Thank you! I feel happy that I did not throw away dozens of random orbital sand paper sheets (with about 1-2 minutes operating time on them, so new but clogged) which got a bit filled up. I felt like there must have been some way to restore them!
Yep, too be honest I was really surprised how well this worked. Some of the belts had been sorted out from use (but I didn't commit to dispose them...just...yet) but now they almost good as new. If you are using trizact belts there was a cool trick from the Simple Little Life channel to use cheap diamond sharpeners to clean the belt.
The other day, by accident as well i discovered that i could clean sandpaper with a dried piece of hot glue stick, i intend to do some further testing but it worked quite well.
Andy Pugh You heard right. the soles of most gun style deck or sport shoes does the trick. A pair can usually be had (found) at your local thrift store or Goodwill, rather inexpensive.
Thanks Mike, it doesn't have to be a floor mat though. It seems like any natural rubber product will work. The harder the better it seems to work. Try the rubber sole of old shoes, garden hose etc.
From what I can tell most products made from natural rubber will work. It seems the harder tje better anf faster it works. Regular pencil eraser is too soft though and will be used up to quick befire achieving much.

Simple but positively brilliant, no more clogged sanding belts/disks for me. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Great reminder Alex. I need to do this more. Especially on the larger more expensive belts

Great tip Alex. I've heard that the soles of Converse style shoes works well too but can't confirm that.

Thanks a lot Andy, yes I read that too. It seems like products made from natural rubber work best and the harder the better.
Natural gum rubber Vans & Wallabys work really well.
This is really handy, I have to try it out!

I wonder if tire rubber would do the same.
Yes it does, but make sure you're not using the side with inlayed fibers
Thumbs up dude!!!!
All I need now is for you to send me one of your mats and I,m sorted. LOL
Glue that little scrap on a stick, it might save the skin on your knuckles one day. Just a dab of two part epoxy, eh? -Veteran '66-68
I'm thinking old tires.
Any rubber will work ?
