Good tips Jay. I do find that a couple of things make it easier: harder reed, high baffle mouthpiece.
If you can learn it on a classical mouthpiece, it’ll make it pop so much easier on different mouthpieces
"DONT OVERBLOW"
*bagpipe noises*
Wow, excellent video. Like seriously this was awesome Jay. Production quality 10/10
Overtones…and multiphonics! Multiphonics REALLY helped me with altissimo. Practiced with overtones 👨🏿🍳💋
Wow, I hadn't heard of multiphonics, thanks
Well, time to torture my neighbours ears💅
For all you saxophone players out there … this short has to be the most important video you’ll ever watch regarding trying to play Altissimo on saxophone, shy of giving you actual fingerings that will allow altissimo notes to speak most easily on different saxophones, the rest of what Jay says here is spot on for sure!
Great advice as always
So good tips.
I've never gotten as high as palm D with overtones and yet I can play an octave of altissimo.
While it probably is true that any mouthpiece can do altissimo it could still be the moutpiece holding you back. I couldn't get G# - B altissimo on my tenor but could get C upwards. New mouthpiece: all notes work. Some months later I was able to do all notes on the first moutpiece.
Today with your advice I managed to reach the double altissimo f# on my Bari (that's higher than I could play on alto) this is an absolute game changer. Thankyou
How the HOW?!
Jaques de round, beautiful piece
Excellent
Thank youuuu
For me it was always the perfect amount of tounge pressure perfect placement very thin line going up a half on your Reed can help also
My band teacher always said to be relaxed when playing that high
Any mouthpiece can play altissimo, however if reed is too soft, it will be more difficult.
Exactly, no doubts..
This Might help
I learned altissimo on a Yamaha 4c I can confirm it is not the mouthpiece, it’s still very possible.
same
Lol, I’ve been taking that approach for quite awhile now. It does help you to NOT rely on the palm keys for high E, F, and F#. That’s true for both alto and tenor. I can’t speak for Bari or soprano or any other saxophone, because
I don’t have any of those saxes.🥲😉
The D overtone series is the most difficult for me. Any tips?
I play saxophone 20 years but until now i cant play altisimo starting at f
Good
Altissimo on tenor is so much harder than on alto;
I found it far easier on tenor lol
@@TWO20 A A# and B are so hard on tenor, on alto you just have to voice super hard and every high notes come out lol
I also think tenor is easier
@@nairdazitro7460 I’ve never had problems with A, Bb and B, I always have trouble with G and G# lol
@@TWO20 G is easy with the f# key, g# is kinda tough yeah
🤔I find some of these comments to be incredible ..get control of overtones people ! 🎷🥳
PS) This guy Jay knows what he’s talking about!
I can play chromatically from bottom to top all the way to altissimo C
However Altissimo G+ G# pose the most difficulty for me no matter which fingering I use.
At the moment I've taught myself a totally useless technique I call "Stupissimo"
It's where you put your teeth on your reed to make that dreaded squeak, except you learn to control it grammatically. It's about an octave above the altissimo range on the alto sax.
Pretty unconventional, but it's fun to screw with and helped me learn the ombechure fundamentals of altissimo!
Must you scoop into every note you play?
Honestly, it's easier for me to go in altissimo, than going on the lower register
Can someone link the tutorial for altissimo?
So my stock le sage mouth peice can play altissimo
does anyone have a comfortable altissimo fingering chart? I've learned how to play a few high ranged notes but I can never find a full, complete chart online.
It's hard to get the altissimo on my ottolink stm but much easier on yamaha 4c haha
Why is it frere Jacques though?
Similar things can be said for the clarinet.
That’s not necessarily true.
@@lloydwhitty684 As per my wording of similar.
Got g a to come out
nice
Can u play altissimo in a Yamaha 4c?
Yup I can
🎷⬆️👍
What's up with that saxophone? It looks like you retrieved it out of a fish tank. All rusted
Issimo advice.
... sonnez les altissime ! ... altissimi ? ... les martins? anyway, good advice on how to (terrorise the neighbours) practice the top notes
Don't piss off Trumpet players. Always respect the lead trumpet. You are not same.
what 💀
Hey WoW Normalized Audio, where is this coming from? With commentary like that, makes me wonder if you’re a trumpet player for the right reasons!?🤔
Or even a musician…🧐
average trumpet player
@@shipsahoy1793 lolz, that’s pretty generous, calling trumpet players musicians. Trumpets are musicians like off is a television channel or abstinence is a sexual position.
@@NobodyNowhereKnowhow Ah well, trumpet players were musicians 50 years ago.. I’m not so sure about now ! 🤣
useless to me
