"you should have been here earlier. i holed in one. mind you, i was playing PINBALL in the CLUBHOUSE." - hilarious! this is a totally brilliant sketch, still makes me laugh out loud after almost 40 years.
I had this vision of Nigel Planer brining the "Dino" character to life for an American sitcom. "With a little Dino magic" could have been his catchphrase. It could still happen. Why not? We need a fresh sitcom here, and I think Nigel could be very funny with this "Dino" guy. Of course, without Rick to reprise "Dickie" it would be bittersweet.
"I haven't seen this guy since rehearsal" funny part is Dean Martin (whom I assume Nigel is parodying) never went to rehearsal on his show......he only had to show up for tapings
I don't know about overseas sales. But these are people who were kids during the fifties, and the odd special from Dean Martin or Jerry Lewis or whoever surely made it onto the screens over here. And, well, the alternative comedy scene as 'twere did like to rip mercilessly into every other bit of the comedy establishment.
I have to be honest. I’ve seen this over a hundred times and l still don’t get the reference. If l had to guess, it was taking the piss out of a tv show that must of had Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin in it.
Dino = Dean Martin Dickie = Sammy Davis Jr., It's a satire of horrible Rat Pack comedy specials. I think there are some on UA-cam you can look up. They are almost, but not quite, as awful as this.
Not sure if this qualifies, but I remember Bob Hope doing one called "Joys" (spoof of the name "Jaws"; pieces of it might also be on UA-cam) that was just a horribly bad spoof of a thriller. At the same time, it had every big name of the time that you could conceive of in it. It was even (mercifully) the final appearance of Groucho Marx, who by this time wasn't recognizable at all as the charismatic comedian he once was, even just a few years earlier. Even his voice sounded old and tired, and he was only shown seated. Seemed like he was only there to draw gawkers, which just came off as being in poor taste. I think the all star cast was a big part of the problem. Everyone had to have their 30 seconds of screen time, and nobody thought it was important for any of the shtick to actually be funny......and believe me it wasn't. Didn't laugh once. I was so looking forward to seeing it, amid the hype of seeing Groucho, etc., but it turned out to be a deeply depressing drag.
The canned laughter doesn't make the jokes more funny when they use the same laugh track for several gags. I wish they hadn't used canned laughter on the Hawk lager ad.
@@parkaparid7549 Thanks for the information. I never guessed they were making fun of shows that use canned laughter. Yes, I knew that they used the same laugh track over and over again.
"Why Dino, that's TEWWIFFIC!"
"Ooo baby wontcha come home with me" (lil punch the the cheek at the end) Freakin Buries me Ever damn time! GOLD.
I had forgotten how good this is and has made my day finding it. The "punchline" at the end still brings me to tears of laughter - timeless classic.
One of my favourite Young Ones moments ever!
I've been using 'with a little Dino magic' since I first watched this back in the day!
Neil does an awesome American impression!
One of the few sketches that makes me laugh everytime
My coach says I haven't................................................yet.
Genius.
This bit was just so out of the blue haha. The Young Ones was crazy.

one of the best bits of the whole series
Love how it's the same canned laughter for everyone of of those cheesy jokes
I saw it more as Dean Martin and his old co-star Jerry Lewis, myself.
I holed in one.
Gosh I love Nigel in this 😂
Here comes trouble! lol
But I was driving for the 10th lol.Brilliant
Genius. Total Showbiz!
I never realised this was Rick and Neil.
“Dino” looks like Brad Pitt in _Once Upon a Time in Hollywood_
Ohhh baby won't you come home with meeee...smack!
Rik and Neil are almost unrecognisable here
Rik, I could.... But Neil? Wow.
Lol, love the punch at the end.
"I haven't seen this guy since rehearsal" funny part is Dean Martin (whom I assume Nigel is parodying) never went to rehearsal on his show......he only had to show up for tapings
The canned laughter after almost every sentence is extra-American.
"Why, Dino, that tewiffic"
This is amazing
4 people couldn't remember that song they used to sing before they got shot in the neck.
Tewific!
Dino reminds me of Robert Evans.
The walking at 1:50 kills me

More of that great humour you don't see these days.
Neil always took crap from Rick, nice to see he got a shot at him.
"I haven't seen this guy since rehearsal."
This is so mean but I love it. Young Ones was awesome.
cant stop laughing, cheers
I understand that you HAVE A DOG.
That is... Right!
I dig those slax..........yup
Remember that song you used to sing before you got shot in the neck?
"How does he do that?"
Superb parody of 1970s Amercan tv shows ...
The joke that Dickie makes about Chinese food - what's that about?
Chinese food, apparently.
He makes charlie broker's screen wipes
Why Dino? Thats Terwiffic!
I have to be honest. I’ve seen this over a hundred times and l still don’t get the reference. If l had to guess, it was taking the piss out of a tv show that must of had Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin in it.
1:36 - 2:26.
Dino- Neil (Really heavy, man)
Dickie- (P)Rik
Could anybody tell me who they are doing a parody of?
Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis
piss funny
Who exactly are they supposed to be? Canadians who became big in Britain?
haha was gonna write the same thing. Instead:
Like if you saw this before charlie brooker!!!
I literally don't remember this
"Hands-up-who-likes-Me!" 👇👇👇👇👇👇😤
Dickie: Hey Marsha, take a hike!
Me: No f***ing way!
I don't get it
This has never not been funny to me. The best part of The Young Ones. Those random interludes that had no connection to the (already thin) plot.
Remember that nude maniac who broke into his neighbor's house, ate his fish tank, and wasn't even hungry? "Ya won't catch me with me trousers!"
Dino = Dean Martin
Dickie = Sammy Davis Jr.,

@goatchumby He's pretending to be a savvy Jewish comedian.
I'm...not sure what this is parodying, but it tells me US TV was awful in the 80s
Not all of it...but yes...we did have some garbage shows
The canned laughter doesn't make the jokes more funny when they use the same laugh track for several gags. I wish they hadn't used canned laughter on the Hawk lager ad.
The canned laughter in this is deliberate, making fun of shows that use it. If you listen it's the same laugh over and over
@@parkaparid7549 Thanks for the information. I never guessed they were making fun of shows that use canned laughter. Yes, I knew that they used the same laugh track over and over again.
Why did Rik Mayall stop being funny so soon after this?
This is inspired on so many levels...even now, 30 years on it still reduces me to tears...
Excuse me? What the fuck did you just say?
Someone needs to give you the Dino's dog treatment, you bastard. :b
