Agreed!! I like to be able to physically look at my stuff on my shelf. I love the smell of a new book and the feel of getting lost in the pages of a story. I don’t get any of that with a digital book. Plus I love being able to lend my books to my friends. I can’t do that with a digital copy. I understand that the world is slowly becoming more and more digital but it’s my hope that there’s still enough demand to keep physical printing of books and manga at the very least.
the only one I agree with is manga. I would NEVER buy manga digitally for a lot of the reasons you said. for anime/shows/movies I just straight up would never ever purchase any of it. if it isn't on a streaming service like Netflix, Hulu, Crunchyroll, etc. then I'm going to rob your shit and that is your fault for not going utilizing these new accessible ways for a consumer to CONSUME your content. as for games, it's just too much of a hassle to have all these games and have to get up and change out discs whenever I want to play a new game. before physical games would come with cool shit or have effort put into the packaging or have physical preorder bonuses. now all of the bonuses are digital shit anyway, and all the physical bonuses you gotta pay way more for. I like having my entire library of games at my fingertips then just being able to click on whichever one I want to play. no swapping discs or any of that shit, just choose whatever I want. the only downside to this would be longevity. what happens when the PS5 or PS6 comes out? what happens if they decide to shut down PS4 servers or something? I lose HUNDREDS of games that I purchased. but the convenience to me is worth it, plus all the games still have physical releases at the moment. I think if we ever get to the point where games are simply not printed physically, we'd be at the point of having one homogenous console that we wouldn't have to worry about servers shutting down or anything like that. internet would be so big and powerful that there wouldn't be a PS7, but just a Playstation that can select any game you wanna play digitally and you get to just play it. just my 2 cents though. nice video.
Agree with pretty much everything you said. Gotta have physical copies. Sometimes I won’t even read, watch, or play the media, but just admire the artwork and product of the case it comes in, knowing it adds life and color to whatever room I have them in, whilst providing entertainment for anyone who wants to indulge in it. Gives the room and owner personality, if that makes sense. Anyways, Great vid!! 😎🤟🏼🕸🕷
I prefer physical because I like the feeling of owning something. I still read manga online, but I just like looking at my shelf and seeing my favorite series in a physical format. For anime, if my internet goes out for some dumb ass reason, at least I got the blu rays.
You could also make the case that when you go out and buy things like manga or games, you might have some really cool spontaneous social interactions with other people who are fans as well
The days of One Manga are gone, I totally agree that having a physical manga/anime collection comes with a sense of pride. However I think digital collections are easier to keep track of as well as saving some paper. There are definitely advantages to going digital. However if it's only a preference thing then either way is good for the industry so what ever floats your boat.
I feel you on physical books and other stuff but games I feel like it's easier for them to be lost or broken while if online it can convenient to to just whip it out no pause
Feel you. Once any artictic piece influence my life , I can't no longer associate it with a folder on my computer. Physical copy becomes a tribute or a sort of reminder which throw you back to those emotions you've lived.
We have the need to POSSESS It's the greed is what drives us. And I don't mean it negatively.. Of course it can be negative, but not necessarily. It's all about the way you go about it. For example I know for a fact thay I DON'T HAVE A PLACE at home ANYMORE for any physical mangas anymore. Now it would be really stupid for me to buy more when I don't have a place for them to be stored anymore.
As a guy that prefers manga digitally more don't worry physical manga ain't going no where people love physical n buy it till this date n until it doesn't stop selling numbers it's not stopping don't worry
Ha! Quoted! I'm pretty sure you can trust my statement. (I actually have "professional" experience with this...so...) I don't mind digital, but like you prefer physical. In addition to what you say about owning the physical thing, it also retains and, in some cases, appreciates in value. A digital item as something that you only own a license for is something that you can't transfer ownership of. You can never resell it. And it will never become rare, or appreciate in value. As a collector, that's a major deterrent to "buying" digital.
I trust your word! Haha. That's a great point that I didn't even consider. The appreciation of a physical collection is a pretty solid argument. Even though I don't plan on ever letting anything go, it's reassuring. Makes it feel like more of an investment at times.
I’m in complete agreement with you on physical manga being superior to digital. I have however moved completely away from all other physical media for movies, tv shows, music, and video games. I went digital with all these for one reason. Space. More room for physical books is more important to me.
I feel the same way. I collect mangas and cds bc it is a morality thing with me. It makes me feel better about supporting those artists that I love. But this is a factor of me being an artist of sorts
Honestly agree with everything. I've always wanted to have a massive collection of anime, manga, and video games etc. But honestly I've lived in places with little space and owning physical copies have sometimes been invonvient. I still want to have a massive collection of the media I adore, but I can see the appeal of digital as well. Although stuff like collectors editions have always been remarkably popular, lots have sold out on the initial day of released. So fortunately I can see us having physical copies for a little while longer.
I can definitely see the appeal of digital but I'm fortunate enough to be in a position where the disadvantages either don't apply to me or don't bother me. Here's hoping physical releases for things like manga are still around for a long while.
l totally agree with you. I tried to read manga digitally a few times and I had to stop each time. I just can't do it. I'm fine with Novels but Comics and Manga I just can't.
I'm with you on that homie always go with physical. The only thing I like about digital is for kids who wanted to get into a certain series and they can't because sometimes the physical could be out of print. Like for example Adam: legend of the blue Marvel tbp physical copy can go for $165 and more but people can get it digital for like 4$. but as a collector I just can't do digital like who's going to want to read Vagabond digitally over physical that beautiful art artwork needs to in my hands. I want to have that feeling that I own something. Great topic and video man!
Digital definitely has its advantages, especially when it comes to rare or out of prints series but my old soul longs for the feel of a book in my hands lol. Vagabond is definitely one of those series you're going to want to see in person though. Honestly that goes for anything done by Takehiko Inoue. His work is masterful.
It's not even a question boi, physical for life. I'm lovin' these videos on simple quick topics. Lately I've been thinking on my "ethics" of collecting. Like WHY do I go after a certain series? What justifies selling something from my collection? Is a series worth keeping if I think it's simply okay instead of great? Shit like that. I'd love to see a video like that from you, like what "rules" do you have for collecting?
It seems that the new version of Shaman King published by Kōdansha will be digital only. This makes me really sad because I would love to get the physical release, put them on the shelf and enjoy the updated covers. Hope Kodancha US (if they get the rights) will do a physical release Just like you I prefer collecting the physical release, it’s just amazing to look at your shelf and see how far your collection has grown. Anime is the exception for me, because it’s pretty expensive where I live so I make sure that I only pick up the series I love.
Yeah I've had a few people telling me that the new Shaman King is only going to be available digitally. Sad to hear honestly. If at some point it does get released physically though you'd better believe I'm buying every volume.
Physical all day. Also you got to get your hands on Hoshin Engi and Muhyo and Roji, those are some excellent manga that I've recently begun collecting. Boy oh boy are the worth it
When it comes to shows that I love I feel anxious and panicky when I watch it on a streaming site or digitally because I worry about it being taken off so I buy shows and movies I love like Avatar Last Airbender when it was taken off of Amazon Prime and it wasn’t free anymore but games I’ll buy digitally no worry
I feel you on that. I realized that more than ever when shows like High School of the Dead got taken off of Netflix. Fortunately for me I own the Blu Ray :D
Agree with you, physical is where it's at! In addition to collecting manga, I like to buy artbooks. I like physically holding and flipping through them. For example, The Persona 5 artbook and Tokyo Ghoul Zakki are flames, but costly. If they were digital, doubt I would spend the money tbh. For me, physically seeing where my money is going is better than it sitting digitally online on some cloud server.
I switched to digital media recently, cause i have not enough space for more volumes. I mean i would prefer physical over digital but thats how it is. I have to except that.
Digital only is always dangerous. Already we have seen situations where a game has been pulled from a digital platform like Steam or Xbox Live due to copyright or license issues (Alan Wake, the classic Konami TMNT: Arcade Game, and others) . It's the same issue with movies, books, comics, etc. A lot of gamers who do not have the space for a large collection might favor a digital only future, but even that poses dangers. When you buy something digitally, you can't ever "re-sell it" to either put toward an upgrade, or try something else - if you're strapped for cash/room and otherwise wouldn't have the money or space for everything. That both creates and retains value. In the case of comics, manga, books, films - if nobody decides to release it digitally, or ever re-release a physical copy...that piece of media or adventure could potentially be lost forever.
First off, been enjoying the content my boy. Second, I agree with this 100%. Physical >>> Digital. As a kid for me, it was all about the game cases and how good they looked and its still the same way for me being much older now.
Preciate it! Glad to hear people have been enjoying the videos. I feel like I'm on a bit of roll. I feel you on the game cases though! I've always admired games that had dope box art. I still do.!
I didn’t even know the PS Vita was a thing still! Lol. Feel you on this tho bro. Imagine looking back in 20 years and possibly handing all this shit down to someone close or whatever the case may be. Can’t do that with digital! Or maybe you can, but it’ll feel...phony. Tangible is the perfect word to describe everything. Hope all is well man have a dope summer! (Even tho it’s still the worst season by faaaaaaaar)
I prefer to get my manga and games physically with one exception which is JoJo Parts 4-8 and other manga which I'm interested in that don't have physical copies but I truly agree and appreciate that you stated this point
Lotus | Nerdcore Nerd Corner Literally, and same thing is happening to Fullmetal Alchemist and Black Clover but I agree that JoJo Part 3 and Fullmetal Alchemist should be finished being published in hardcovers since they already published them once so all you have to do is put your original work and put a hardcover on it, except Black Clover isn't a hard cover, also I forgot to mention, I'm a big fan dude! :D
worst fear about digital games when your console dies. if you need a new one all the games are gone physical you dont have to worry and dlc is your only concern to download
I mean if we are talking about Xbox and PlayStation the games are saved on your account not the console so just login with your account and your good. But once again you do only own the license so they can take it aways from you. But the chances of that happening to Sony and Microsoft are very low
I watch the subbed version on anime lab free version and buy the favourites sometimes after I watch it twice if I'm unsure. Because I love Madoka Magica and Assignation Classroom but didn't finish sword art online.
I prefer physical as well but lately my mind's been going crazy overthinking how much shit I got laying around that I now realized I probably should have got digital because it's only taking up space. Maybe that's just my OCD. I've limited it now to very special anime and video games. Manga as well, if they aren't dear to me I don't bother with physical manga. Everything you said about physical manga was true though it's just I have to have limits otherwise my room might as well be a library.
I think it's easy to get caught up in building this massive collection of things you mostly could've gone without. I try to only buy the series I'm passionate about and truly enjoy and appreciate.
Lotus where do I get started I’ve never really read mange I paid for Shonen jump. From viz but I never really enjoyed it and from what I’m seeing physical is something I should try. What can I do with $30??? What Manga can I buy
I believe in this, towards the game. When I got my persona 5, blazblue central fiction or Dragon Ball fighterZ collectors edition my hype was overwhelming because the stuff that comes with it
I really hope it never reaches that point. I'm not a fan of digital media either. There are a lot of things I have heard are fantastic to read, that are not in print and my feelings are mixed about it. First, I'm sad because I won't get to read it. If I'm going to pay for something, it's going to be a physical copy. Not the rights to view something that only exists in 1s and 0s. However I'm really glad that it's possible for more artists who maybe can't get published in paper, to still be able to get their work out there. We can only hope that really good stuff gets picked up by a publisher who wants to print it. Also, it's so much easier to share a series with a friend if you have the physical copies.
i cant stand physical media that shit takes up to much space i sold and gave all mine away after some rats chewed into the box i realized they were just wasting away as i read comics on my tablet so i gave em to people who might care
say your playstation or whatever blows up. and all your digital purchases are on there. you lose all of those digital purchases, compared to having it physically you still have it...unless you left the disk in there. same for manga. say you got shit internet and you gotta wait on a load screen to see the next page compared to just flipping to the next page physical copies all day any day
Wtf there are many cons of physical too imagine ur house catches fire ( I hope that never happens ) its way easier to take ur tablet or phone with u than ur whole library n u don't even need to take ur phone or tablet if u remember ur email n password 😂
Lotus | Nerdcore Nerd Corner You’d be surprised. My friends are serious about game sharing. Loved the video by the way. Browsing through the digital game market will never top that feeling of walking into GameStop.
Physical gang. Although I'm gonna need a library built in my house lol.

I have my fair share of physical games and music, but when given the choice I'll always go physical.
I have over a hundred physical copies of manga so I feel you lotus. I rather read it

That's a GREAT point.

Me too. It's just not the same.
I had no idea this even came out

say your playstation or whatever blows up. and all your digital purchases are on there. you lose all of those digital purchases, compared to having it physically you still have it...unless you left the disk in there.
same for manga. say you got shit internet and you gotta wait on a load screen to see the next page compared to just flipping to the next page
physical copies all day any day
Physical is de way.
Wtf there are many cons of physical too imagine ur house catches fire ( I hope that never happens ) its way easier to take ur tablet or phone with u than ur whole library n u don't even need to take ur phone or tablet if u remember ur email n password 😂
I prefer physical tbh
My boy!

Lotus | Nerdcore Nerd Corner You’d be surprised. My friends are serious about game sharing. Loved the video by the way. Browsing through the digital game market will never top that feeling of walking into GameStop.
