I agree with Rave Master, I read it back in September of 2021 and i love it so much. Ever since then I've wanted the orignal physicals but they are so expensive, at this point i'd take anything. Also highly recommend Edens Zero, those good things you have heard are sooo worth it
So happy that Grand blue dreaming got physical releases, it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite series of all time. I really hope they reprint GTO cause I’ve only heard great things
I'd die for Ace of Diamond to get printed, I remember being so shocked when I heard that it was published in English only to be digital only. I know it's long, but man!! Chihayafuru physical editions would send me over the moon, too. Please, Kodansha!
I’m really hoping some other publishers step in to pick up some of these titles. We’re seeing Seven Seas pick up a lot, but there’s also some unusual things that can happen like Oshi no Ko being picked up by Yen Press, even though a lot of Shueisha IPs usually land in Viz’s hands, and even series like Vagabond that were Kodansha ended up in Viz’s hands. In terms of Tsutomu Nihei works though, it sucks that Abara just went out of print, so even though NOiSE is luckily going back in print, out went another and one that was a high quality release at that
Beck was anunced in spain by distrito manga it will be in A5 format 2 in 1 based from bunko ed. Almost all works from Nihei you can find in spanish except Noise. Dragon Head is Licensed in Spain by Planeta Cómic and recently in Argentina by Ovni press.

Imagine thinking printing Initial D, or GTO or Mushishi would have poor sales🤡🤡🤡 People would LITERALLY be all over it. For my physical release pick I'd go with TenPuru. Having Grand Blue Dreaming released, I don't see why TenPuru wouldn't get his place under the sun. It's an amazing series, almost equally funny as Grand Blue. Story and art by the same artist of Grand Blue, it feels like an extension of it. I know, the ecchiness might drive some people away, but I promise it's not Prison School level or anything. It's within the borders of the premise of the story.
@@JamesLee50 Comedy is very specific, you either like it or you hate it, there's no in-between. I'd say if you liked Grand Blue you will definitely like Tenpuru, but do be aware that it's an ecchi series, so if that's a bother to you then it's better to skip it. Personally, I dig Tenpuru as much as Grand Blue, great stuff.
great video. i prefer to read digital. i have about 1200 manga ( physical ) but have only read a few, i read almost everything digitally. i just find it easier for some reason. i have the giant ipad so it is generally bigger etc.
so as a hole, Kodansha US hasen't been my fav publisher for a while, mostly mostly cause they don't license alot that I'm personally interested in both digital & print, cause Kodansha JP have waaay more manga over there that I want to see get over here some how? but since last year they definitely curt my attention with there print licenses mainly being a Kanako Inuki horror collection, Blue lock & my main fav that I thought would never see the light of day get a print release, being PTSD Radio (witch im surprise u didn't mention lol) but yeah, unfortunately when they do license stuff it's probably best to keep your expectations low!.. hell so far, the only manga they have "locked up" digitally, that I'm interested in is Starving Anonymous, &..er, make it happen Kodansha US PLS!

I was sent the news the day before the embargo lifted and when I saw one of them yesterday morning I said “so I saw the announcements and there’s one I’m REALLY excited about” and he said “I know exactly which one, and we’re excited too!”

I'm new to reading manga and have been frustrated to see so many well-reviewed manga titles partially or completely out of print -- e.g., Lone Wolf & Cub, Vagabond, Slam Dunk, I Am a Hero... those are just the ones that come to mind immediately.
Lone Wolf & Cub just had a reprint announced, Vagabond omnibus edition is fully in print, I Am a Hero omnibus is fully in print. Slam Dunk though desperately needs an omnibus release.

According to the Barnes and Noble site, there should be a restock for Vagabond coming in November this year. At the moment, you can back order volume 2 for retail price on their site. No date for I Am a Hero yet, but just hold out and don’t pay scalper prices
Fuuka is one of my top 5 Mangas and I really wish it would get the physical release treatment! I know it will never since the time for it has since passed but damn would I lose my mind if they ever brought it over here.
Hello I’m here to recommend a manga series The manga is called a man and his cat It’s a very wholesome book and that I could read over and over again. The book itself is not that high quality but the story is great
This isn't a digital only title, but I want to Ashita no Joe published in English. It's my favorite manga of all time and I WOULD love to own it in english! Come on Kodansha! Give us physical volumes for Ashita no Joe, people will buy it! It's not that long of a series.

RANT! IF what you say is true and the absolute reason we are getting digital first over print is because the Japanese home office is dictating what we physically get they need to take a hard look at their business here and why they even have it over just licensing titles out to Tokyopop. It can’t just be to grind out as many versions as Sailor Moon and Attack on Titan as possible. IF they think people are going to drop money on a digital version and then go back to drop money on a book they’re out of their mind. That is not a reasonable metric for publishing a book. Having a subscription service and seeing what people click on; MAYBE. But there needs to be someone with their ear to the tracks in the US branch who’s calling the shots on printing. IF it is because something’s content might be questionable for the west… they own the VERTICAL name. Use that so it doesn’t sink the Kodansha brand. Record labels have been using imprints this way for decades. Record stores grade labels based on previous releases to see if they want to take a chance on a purchase. If an imprint fails the major just makes a new one and puts the new smaller artists on there. IF a hype anime comes out or there is a break out hit; PRINT THE BOOK! Do not leave that money on the table. Kodansha just had a video last season bragging about their titles having popular anime. MOST (if not all) WERE DIGITAL ONLY!!!!! WHY? Take… my… money… How did they not announce a print copy of YA BOY Kongming? How did sleep on Tokyo Revengers? If it was the iconography in the book self release it under, i dunno, VERTICAL? IF they don’t wanna take the risk, then they should just dump their money into another weird format for Attack on Titan and hand the risk all over to Seven Seas. They seem to want to release stuff at least. IF your company earns a slick catch phrase like Netflix’s “Netflix Jail” it is time to go into PR mode and squash it. Do a reader’s poll, stick your finger in the wind, check the tea leaved, look at what people are pirating because they can’t get print books… they need to fix having "digital jail" attached to their brand.
To answer the question of what would I like to see physically, The Slime Diaries (one of the Reincarnated as a Slime spin-offs) which is owned by Kodansha. I watched the anime when it was airing and honestly loved it more than the main series. While I have the digital series already, I really want the physical copies just because i adore the manga so much. If you asked me this question 6 months to a year ago, I would say Shangri-la Frontier (owned by Kodansha) but that is now getting a physical release with the first volume coming out next month, aka August 23. The first 6 volumes are already released digitally so now its a game of catch-up with the physical versions coming out every two months. That is like one of my favorite manga of all time so having it physically is a huge deal.
Mushishi, please, I'm begging for it. I want to give them money. I would not wait. I would preorder the second I heard the announcement. I thank every manga-tuber who push the re-print Mushishi agenda. Please keep talking about it so maybe it'll get noticed.

This is out of topic, but what are the chances of Gash Bell getting re-license in the West? Since other countries are getting the new edition of the series, I hope the USA is next in line.

I am buying Beck in French because it's in Digital Jail in English. I finally want to finish the manga! I have the first 17 volumes that came out in Germany before Kodansha took away their license, and while my French is okay, I sometimes don't understand all of it.
I don’t know if my Rave Master collection will ever be completed. And OH MY GOODNESS do they need to publish the New Editions of Alive: The Final Evolution. The first 8 volumes were published from DelRey but the series goes to volume 21 and those are only available digitally. 😞
Out of all of these I definitely think Shaman King has the strongest chance. Not just cuz I do think it will most likely happen after the main story’s 3-1’s which I hope have been successful enough, but also because the Flowers manga has been confirmed to be getting an anime adaption so I think that’s gonna be enough of a push for Kodansha.
The only MushiShi volume I have is one of the JPN ones my cousin picked up for me years ago while he was in Japan. Seeing those prices on eBay is just so depressing…
Initial D was great for the first 3 seasons for me. After that, it was just race after race, no character development, no one had a life outside of the racing in the anime. I also read reviews that the manga does the same after one point. But it would be cool to see it again!
This may not sound like a real option but it's great being able to read at least 2 different languages, with english and spanish there are so many options even if you have to pay a little more for importing. Of course japanese would be ideal too lol. GTO has been published 2 times in Mexico already, i own the first print because the second actually got canceled because that publisher went under, missing just 1 or 2 volumes...
YES!! SHAMAN KING SPIN-OFFS!! Even if they just did a 2-in-1 of Zero & 2 3-in-1's of Flowers to match the main series Omnibuses they just printed it would look so nice to put zero before & flowers after on the shelf and if they matched the spines in some way that would be awesome . . . but my hopes are not high with Kodansha. haha - Jerry
I'm definitely glad to also have access to the german market. Some series obviously exist both in english and in german in which case I can simply pick the better version. But there are many series that are only published in either or at least to a greater extent(for example the german Junji ito selection is quite minimal). The only downside is that sometimes german translations aren't that great (and that the lack of language uniformity irks my perfectionistic brain whenever I rearrange my collection).
Bit off topic but I have acouple manga recommendations for you. First is Wotakoi love is hard for Otaku. You have said in the past that you like grand blue dreaming even tho diving isn't a major interest of yours. I could say the same for Wotakoi. It's a romcom but so damn funny with all its reference and nerd jokes that I think you would enjoy it. Second is the Higurashi series. It is by far my favorite horror manga series with such a good mystery.
I would like to have a physical release of ashita no Joe and hajime no ippo both are a classic boxing manga I loved then reading digitally Although hajime no ippo is pretty popular i feel like ashita no Joe need some love please if u haven't read go read it .
Since the anime just aired I wouldn't mind seeing physical versions of Love After World Domination's manga. It just got nominated for an Eisner award (for Best Digital Comic of course :P)
I don’t think the “test” of releasing it digitally to attain a physical isn’t true in some cases. Shojo in particular receives immense digital support in order to try and get a physical yet is constantly ignored. These companies particularly kodansha know this too as they have talked about how well it does digitally compared to there other genres/demographics. Yet seem to have no understanding that the community is trying to show that support to get a physical, many happy to double dip on their purchases. Kodansha might potentially see a drop in digital support for shojo as consumers see that they’re support isn’t doing much to attain the outcome they want.
I spoke at length in person to a few people that work for Kodansha US last summer and via video call with several people who work for Kodansha Japan last fall and confirmed this both in general and when inquiring about specific titles.
I want a reprint of super gals because the mangaka is working on a sequel and flame of recca and some rumiko takahashi short story's l always find them in French and I want a short series named berry berry to be publushed in English couse it's just 3 volemes long!!
As much I loved the anime for Space Brothers I think the ship has sailed on it. I don't think it has the name recognition it once did. Saint Young Men is a surprisingly easier sell in comparison.
Hey just wondering if you have read Black Clover and if not you should read it. The beginning is a bit slow but after that its action packed with really good pacing. Its a really fun enjoyable shounen
Mushishi is another title that I found out about like around 12 years ago. And wanted to read. Still haven't read a single chapter though. P.S. I know it looks like I am whining. Just there are so many good old titles. But to keep up with newer stuff and reading old ones is a bit hard

This is out of topic, but what are the chances of Gash Bell getting re-license in the West? Since other countries are getting the new edition of the series, I hope the USA is next in line.

I would love rave master to be reprinted , ive been trying to collect them for my brothers because they adored the series and have been snatching singles cheap when I can but would appreciate them to be less scarce because that only happens in a blue moon

I am buying Beck in French because it's in Digital Jail in English. I finally want to finish the manga! I have the first 17 volumes that came out in Germany before Kodansha took away their license, and while my French is okay, I sometimes don't understand all of it.
I don’t know if my Rave Master collection will ever be completed. And OH MY GOODNESS do they need to publish the New Editions of Alive: The Final Evolution. The first 8 volumes were published from DelRey but the series goes to volume 21 and those are only available digitally. 😞
Out of all of these I definitely think Shaman King has the strongest chance. Not just cuz I do think it will most likely happen after the main story’s 3-1’s which I hope have been successful enough, but also because the Flowers manga has been confirmed to be getting an anime adaption so I think that’s gonna be enough of a push for Kodansha.
I'd love mushi-shi the anime was so so good so I'm sure the manga is even better

Late comment. But I've been begging Kodansha to give us My Home Hero physicals because it's my favorite current licence. But probably will never will
Initial D was great for the first 3 seasons for me. After that, it was just race after race, no character development, no one had a life outside of the racing in the anime. I also read reviews that the manga does the same after one point. But it would be cool to see it again!
This may not sound like a real option but it's great being able to read at least 2 different languages, with english and spanish there are so many options even if you have to pay a little more for importing. Of course japanese would be ideal too lol.
GTO has been published 2 times in Mexico already, i own the first print because the second actually got canceled because that publisher went under, missing just 1 or 2 volumes...

Even if they just did a 2-in-1 of Zero & 2 3-in-1's of Flowers to match the main series Omnibuses they just printed it would look so nice to put zero before & flowers after on the shelf and if they matched the spines in some way that would be awesome . . . but my hopes are not high with Kodansha. haha - Jerry

I'm definitely glad to also have access to the german market. Some series obviously exist both in english and in german in which case I can simply pick the better version. But there are many series that are only published in either or at least to a greater extent(for example the german Junji ito selection is quite minimal). The only downside is that sometimes german translations aren't that great (and that the lack of language uniformity irks my perfectionistic brain whenever I rearrange my collection).
Bit off topic but I have acouple manga recommendations for you.
First is Wotakoi love is hard for Otaku. You have said in the past that you like grand blue dreaming even tho diving isn't a major interest of yours. I could say the same for Wotakoi. It's a romcom but so damn funny with all its reference and nerd jokes that I think you would enjoy it.
Second is the Higurashi series. It is by far my favorite horror manga series with such a good mystery.
Please! Do some BIG or 3-in-1 style of GTO and Beck. Loved those from TokyoPop back in the day. But I can’t pay $30 and up for a single tankobon.
I would like to have a physical release of ashita no Joe and hajime no ippo both are a classic boxing manga I loved then reading digitally
Although hajime no ippo is pretty popular i feel like ashita no Joe need some love please if u haven't read go read it .
Since the anime just aired I wouldn't mind seeing physical versions of Love After World Domination's manga. It just got nominated for an Eisner award (for Best Digital Comic of course :P)
I don’t think the “test” of releasing it digitally to attain a physical isn’t true in some cases. Shojo in particular receives immense digital support in order to try and get a physical yet is constantly ignored. These companies particularly kodansha know this too as they have talked about how well it does digitally compared to there other genres/demographics. Yet seem to have no understanding that the community is trying to show that support to get a physical, many happy to double dip on their purchases. Kodansha might potentially see a drop in digital support for shojo as consumers see that they’re support isn’t doing much to attain the outcome they want.
I spoke at length in person to a few people that work for Kodansha US last summer and via video call with several people who work for Kodansha Japan last fall and confirmed this both in general and when inquiring about specific titles.
I want a reprint of super gals because the mangaka is working on a sequel and flame of recca and some rumiko takahashi short story's l always find them in French and I want a short series named berry berry to be publushed in English couse it's just 3 volemes long!!
them printing GTO is free money since those tokyo pop volumes prices are ridiculous.
As much I loved the anime for Space Brothers I think the ship has sailed on it. I don't think it has the name recognition it once did. Saint Young Men is a surprisingly easier sell in comparison.

Hey just wondering if you have read Black Clover and if not you should read it. The beginning is a bit slow but after that its action packed with really good pacing. Its a really fun enjoyable shounen

Mushishi is another title that I found out about like around 12 years ago. And wanted to read. Still haven't read a single chapter though.
