Huh. I oathed Hawk's favorite shipfu Repulse just yesterday and then I see that he oathed my favorite shipfu Helena in this vid... Did we just become best friends?
I liked how in "Start Building" fan webcomic has Brooklyn and Phoenix being overprotective of Helena to the point one of them punched Cleveland thinking she's a man.
Helena is the exercise in character development through skiiiiins. Really AA and maybe messing with timings using an SG radar are what this is about. I can't name a barrage/attack in my fleets generally on a 16 sec ish timer though.
you can set up almost any back line with Homing Beacons(for CVs), HS fire control radar(for BBs) while also setting up different planes and guns. doing so, finally, gear other then purple triple 406mm MK6. or Helldiver bomber, can shine.
It works well with Rodney(center), Amagi and Warspite kai, in Warsite case you can juggle the main gun and equipments to work, i love getting 2 Special Salvo and than Ap warspite all in the debuff time.
My heart is going to explode from adorableness overload upon seeing my darling Helena in a no doubt beautiful oath skin... I will die, but I die happy.
So Helena got a retrofit. Does that mean the other ship she's commonly paired with will also get a retrofit? I would love a Cleveland retrofit or an oath skin for Helena. They did finally give Nimi one so we can dare to hope.
Helena is well worth it. Her character progression to the evening dress (hope you get a chance to pick that up as it is really one of my favourite skins of all time) to the retrofit shows her changing from a tragic shaken woman to a more confident person that wants to step up and contribute more. So endearing! Thanks a lot for the video! 🙏❤️✨
Helena was the first Elite ship I pulled when starting Azur Lane, little did I know at the time how good she was....Nearly a year and a half later, She is still a permanent member of my Boss fleet, continuing to debuff enemy sirens for Essex and Enterprise, thanks to that amazing skill she has. Not only is Helena a meta ship, she's extremely adorable and has a great personality! I love the character growth she's gone through as well, from being timid and unsure, to becoming confident and proud herself (as evidenced by her MVP quote). As for her animations, she causes diabetes because of how *cute* she is! All and all, Helena is my favorite ship in the game, retrofit or not. She's got a Radar Skill that's essential to any Shikikan's Boss Fleet, one of the best personalities in game, and has chibi animations that can cause diabetes. I highly recommend Helena to anyone that hasn't used her before :) Edit: By the way, Oath Skin when?
Helena was the first Elite ship i pulled when i started too, and the only ship i have oathed, although i have spare rings. I have never taken her out of the team yet.
Helena’s second skill pairs well with Seattle as her second skill gives seattle 15% damage reduction when put in the backmost position so she’ll get 12% evasion and 15% damage reduction. That and maybe Bremerton since her evasion is really low, especially compared to other CA’s, and you generally want her not in the front as her skill provides a max 20% damage reduction for only 30 seconds when placed in front over a 25% boost in AA until the end of the battle when placed anywhere else.
Have you noticed how alot of skins used the retrofit model of the ship if they have one or how the retrofit model will resemble their other skins? Look at base helena's eyes in her chibi compared to her skins and they're noticeably different. Her retrofit eyes and skins tho are the same. This is especially prominant with Ayanami as you can notice alot of her skins use her retrofit sword with some exceptions like her halloween skin.
One big reason I have heard to have the radar is it allows FDG to have her barage synced up with Helena's skill which couldn't be done before thanks to the "Sonata of Chaos" reload buff I forgot how exactly you get it synced but that is Definitely a good reason to use the radar
I feel that her high potential and CN favorite hurt the benefit package (Devs feared how broken she could be) That being said, the extra survivability helps. The only use I can see for the alternate timing is mobbing as it'd allow a strong frontline to clean up more easily. But the need for a SG and other things make it a hard sell. Her happy expressions on the other hand may easily sell people on doing it.
50s in and Hawk already regreted not buying Helena Skin smh On the other hand, While her Upgraded skill is a bit tad of an ehhh... Her second skill rocks, and i like that coming out of Yostar decision to make her a full pledge support ship rather than making her into more 'OP' lets say. That said good vid and keep up the good work
I'm not sure if you seen it, but Just3c did a view on Helena's retrofit a few months ago, while their conclusions weren't super dissimilar they talk a lot more about her SG Skill and its applications with speed adjusting. While im not saying you're sleeping on it per-say, if you brought math into this it has some really amazing applications around certain guns and certain ships (FDG being one of them). To me it seems more of a nuisanced skill and something "Casual players might not find a lot out of but hard core can really squeeze some miles out of."
I avoid watching other guide videos so that a pre-existing bias doesn't exist prior to going into the workings of a character. I find this better as it does result in allowing me to see areas they shine and areas they may falter at (regardless of the character). That being said, I'm aware of the SG radar having bigger applications outside of what I've mentioned. At the same time, these videos are directed toward the more casual players rather than the hardcore. I could definitely mention its applications and starting bring mathematical formulas into this, but that would cause the video to be far less entertaining in my opinion. To put simply (and not to insult) those that can see those particular applications and work that way, this video series...really isn't for you. I'm aiming to cover the high level applications of a character. I look at these videos like how I used to teach/tutor: When a person is new to a topic or environment, it's better to show them things at a higher level and teach them the basics. As they get more and more comfortable with the topics at hand, then they can further their understanding and "graduate" into the hardcore player that is willing to dive into the mathematics and further understand that. It's better to not overwhelm players with deeper topics. As much as I would be willing to dive into that, it's not something that fits in the series.
@@Hawk2zer0 that's an absolutely fair assessment and given that scope I agree with your course of action in regards to what you covered in this video based upon this. please keep making this quality content.
@@jolunrohthocoudis526 I did at least mention that fleets like AmAKaga will see benefit, so maybe that could allow people to experiment with that. I also imagine the +13 gear could be a huge gamechanger as well.
The Best thing about AA is the Bonus FP that it gives to North Carolina with her skill, it increases the FP by 30% of its total AA Stats (including gear bonus stats) so that means my North Carolina lvl 118 with FP 417 + 87 gets a extra 30% of 397+146, that is a extra 163 of FP, for total of 667 FP. I suppose i could trade my AA gun for the 134mm Twin High-Angle Gun to get a direct extra 15 FP but losing 15 AA and 5 FP from the skill, and trade my purple Triple 406mm mk6 for some gold gun with a extra 20 FP, so extra 30 FP to a total of 697.
So if Leipzig is the German counterpart, and Hawk compares Leander’s chibi to Helena’s (making Leander the British counterpart)...who is the Japanese counterpart?
@@UchihaPercy I would say Mogami, she seems to have low self esteem despite being super sweet and a very good ship, and she was drawn by the same artist as Helena's
Am I the only person who likes using her to along with an aggressive vanguard so I kinda benefit from the buff? Also in case she isn't on the list, can you review more recent ships namely Perseus, but Valiant would also be a good pick. I just think both are adorable personality wise and I'd like to know how good they'd be working in a royal navy based fleet. And as always, amazing work on your video hawk, even if I was a bit late this time

When gold equipment will go up to +13, timing will be slightly easier. In any case, it was already a top tier debuffer, so we couldn't expect a great retrofit. Great art at least.
TBH I think Helena's retrofit was fine. She was already an amazing ship for boss fleets before the retrofit, so the devs probably didn't want to overbuff her and break the balance. The AA buff does help out a lot for World 13 AKA Plane Hell anyways, so its actually pretty useful. The SG radar speeding up the skill proc can also be useful if your BBs have High Performance Fire Control Radars.
