My favorite way to do the sketch glitch is sketching Gau when he returns from using the Leap cause the fight ends either way so it's pretty stable and reliable.
I remember having the Sketch glitch happen to me a few times back in the day. I straight up just don't use Sketch now, but luckily, Relm's a crazy good caster so she's still good to have around even if I don't use her special.
Well I remember that having a fake moustache, Relm gains some kind of "control" special movement, which is absolutely great, even in the final dungeon :D
Weird thing about these visual oddities this glitch causes... this happened to me without fail on it's own every time while going through the Phoenix Cave on my actual original cartridge. Didn't need Relm to Sketch anything, I'd just be in a fight and it would wig out at random. Sometimes it would recover enough to get out of the fight and it'd be fine after that, other times it would just freeze and crash. Couldn't piece together what the deal was back then but looking back, it WAS a former rental copy I had bought from a grocery store that was selling off their 16-bit games for the new 32-bit stuff coming out. I'm willing to bet that someone who rented it at one time had it hooked to a Game Genie and maybe certain values that were changed had done some permanent corrupting of the save battery data. The game code was probably loading messed up values from the battery back-up to RAM whenever I reloaded my saves and something about the programming of the Phoenix Cave triggered it in just the right way to fuck up.
Wow, someone else experienced this? My old copy I had as a kid had the exact same Phoenix Cave problem and this is the first other mention of it happening without using Sketch I have ever seen. It was my personal copy that I bought brand new myself and had never touched a Game Genie, so I'm ruling out that theory. However, I had encountered the Relm Glitch several times before I just quit using her entirely. Didn't know what the problem was, but I eventually narrowed it down to Relm being present and just avoided using her entirely to be extra safe. I quite vividly remember Phoenix Cave glitching out as if I had used Sketch, and being super bugged because I was being careful and never using that cursed ability. The only way I eventually got through there was to just rush it ASAP repeatedly until I got a lucky crash-free run finished. Anyway in retrospect, I'm guessing that Sketch itself caused the save file corruption that only seems to effect Phoenix Cave for whatever reason, because that was the only weirdness my cartridge had ever been subjected to.
@ImminentBread It did work, actually. I'm planning to do a follow-up Let's Break. It's not as revolutionary (ugh, that word) as the original airship glitch, but it allows for some more interesting things. Basically I managed to get the airship glitch to work anywhere, so getting to the Floating Continent is no longer required. So no more getting stuck at Doma Castle, or having to immediately fly to Zozo, etc
With a five year hiatus I'm not expecting any answer, but would you care to let us know somehow about this? I'm replaying FF6 now in 2019 and wondering what this new glitch you have is.

The Zone Eater palette-swap is cool. Some of them look really interesting. Oh god! I thought Terra's swap was Gogo... But it actually seems to be Kefka! I don't know if i like that..!
Here’s how the palettes work: Terra has a unique color scheme, Locke and Gerad share a palette, Edgar, Sabin, and Celes share a color palette, Mog and Umaro actually share one, surprisingly, and Strago, Relm, Gau, Kefka, and Gogo have the same color scheme. This isn’t even counting NPCs, like Owain having Terra’s palette' and merchants and shipmen having Locke’s.

i had this happen on the triangle island in the world of balance back when the game was new... maybe my 2nd playthrough... so i was grinding the behemoth there to this day, what, almost two decades later, i had no idea what happened... but this is it i think. i just remember the pixels getting glitchy, characters switching... one character changed sprites, started using monster abilities or something.. it was just super sketchy (..... har har) looked like at 1:02 sort of where one of my characters started to look like another and my abilities got weird, changed to monster abilities or something... also the weird graphical glitches on screen.
I'm thinking this had to be what happened to me back in the day also. I don't remember (possibly just forgot) any temporary graphical glitches...but my inventory had random amounts of many items, some of them super rare weapons and relics and in multiple incomplete stacks. If I went to sell these items, it would give me the GP for them, but ALSO dupe the same amount I tried to sell. I showed the guy who loaned me the game, otherwise no one would have believed me lmao

There's some innacuracies in the video - Where the sketch glitch "points" to isn't known, so a lot of these aren't "this is exactly what will happen if you do this with this mould". There are people currently experimenting (me including) to figure out where the data comes from in an attempt to skip to the end of the game.
That menu is actually an option in the game rather than a glitch (though it changing menu styles mid-battle is the glitch's fault, of course). If you want that alternate menu, you just need to go to the game's config menu, then make it so "Cmd. Set" is set to "Short".
Perhaps the most amusing bug in game industry ever. Funny how just a little coding error makes up such a mess. Thanks for posting this, awesome compilation.
Hey I remember playing this for SNES. There was one area where it did a big ass glitch on me. It also ended up deleting all my saved game slots when I turned it off due to a freezing after the battle. It happened when you got the old guy Strago and Relm with someone else I forget who. It is right before General Leo dies and you have to go into this cave area. There are these dog looking things that do this red orb type of attack. Normally the sketch misses all of these enemies.
@AkaiAzul I believe that is actually supposed to be Interceptor, who comes around and cures you of your ailments every now and again because why the hell not. At least I assumed it was Interceptor, because I only saw it with Shadow in the party.

For some reason a glitch happened to me where my characters had wall ring and i accidentally shot fire magic at one character and then it kept bouncing back and forth between both characters non stop including the enemy. Unfortunately the counter cracked the game and required a restart. If i remember right, the enemy also had reflect. (Usually reflect doesn't work 100% of the time.) The bounce effect was a wtf moment for me in this game.
happened to me in the phoenix cave when i tried to sketch something inviz. i knew relm had something to do with it because it only ever happened when she was in the party.
so, what u usually need for a glitch/freeze is encounter the right monsters, relm, and someone with imp? although amazing at finding this, is quite stupid for normal players to know it cuz they might encounter a glitch situation like this sooner or later in this game

played the cart through around 15 times since x-mas '94 and i never once did any of these. a glaring error, but still a far cry from some of the problems we have today. even if i had known of these i might have viewed it like i do flying out of the castle in SotN

I figured this glitch out when I first played the game on its release 1994 and posted on a website on how to do this years ago once I got it I didn't stop playing. Once the dead world happen I didn't know where to go. So I skipped getting relm and on accident I found GoGo. I was fighting basilisk in front of Narshe and had a sword on GoGo and used sketch, figured since I couldn't find Relm might as well use him for her. Then my game glitched and I see General Leo, one of them dead, another muddled and berserk and I am thinking what the hell the game broke? So I hit my L and R for running away and noticed I had 0 atma swords and genji gloves and aegis shields I was like what the hell? Also my glitch didn't bust the game it kept it normal Friend says man you should post what happens before people do so I did. I even put my name at the bottom of that bug but someone other than me could of figured it out as well but at the time nobody had it up. the only thing I seen was vanish and doom. 100% truth I was young back then i'm older now have that very same game in my closet in my collection.

Still don't know what triggered it for me, possibly the same cause. But yeah, tons of multiples of rare items, PLUS if I tried to sell them I not only got the GP for selling them, it actually DUPED them instead of removing them from my inventory lmao

I used to wait for when I Could get far enough to do this glitch. I never had any problems and always got tons of illumina swords and ragnaroks etc and was able to beat the game. I don't know what y'all are trying to deduce but I just want to know if it works on the emulator through letsplaysnes.com because I've tried and it won't work

If you have Relm and Gau in your party on the velt, and you have Relm sketch Gau it can give you the items and sometimes add rages to Gau's list.

The shaved sheep happens when a counter runs down and the party member has not been attacked by an attack that would wake the character

I think so. And I've heard that the GBA version didn't fix this glitch they just used a different method like they did with the Psycho Cyan glitch.

Its memory corruption. The game is trying to load sprite data for monsters but its looking in the wrong locations in ram for them. Pretty much.
