- I accidentally trolled KPOP fans on twitter. I spread a fake rumour on twitter that Korean pop stars Jackson Wang and Taeyeon were dating on my main channel @GeorgeMasonTV However the KPOP community are intense and if you try to troll them they do not take it well... you wont believe what happened

As a kpop fan and a fan of Jackson Wang - I suggest you not to mess and do not create fake news about kpop celebrities. You can end up being sued by their agencies. Fake rumors can also ruin career of kpop celebrities. It’s very different from the Western media.

as an old kpop fan, kpop idols are being followed a lot so it's very difficult to lie about their whereabouts. especially if they are flying somewhere, they'll get papped leaving Korea and arriving wherever FOR SURE. also kpop dating culture isn't like american/european pop where everyone dates each other. kpop idols need to be single for fans, it's often considered bad publicity if they date someone. there are LOADS of ships but it's quite rare for the ships to be real, it's ok as long as it stays fan's fantasy. but some of them do and someone of them are even married (although that's often the older generation), and they often announce the relationship when they get married not before. definitely look into it if you're interested! but it's definitely not the same codes as we're used to in europe! anyway can't wait for the next videos!!!!!
That’s a bit weird, why do they need to be single for the fans? Wouldn’t their fans be happy to see their idol in a good relationship that brings them joy? It’s not like the fans will ever be able to date them anyway so I don’t really understand..
@@Amethyst.i It's a different approach, I believe it's mostly due to the way the industry treats the matter. The K-pop industry is a very tough and hardworking industry where little consideration is given to "distractions". So you need to stay single to focus on your career and that means giving all your attention to fans. It's not rare when an idol announces that he's in a relationship to see comments from fans saying "Oh so you don't care about us", as if this is something that is owed to them. This can even lead to fans boycotting certain members. As an example, Lee Sungmin from the group Super Junior announced he got married and since then he's been on hiatus one of the reasons being because fans are mad that he didn't ask for their permission... Yep, the whole dating thing in the K-pop industry is very messed up.
I don’t know if it is 100% true, but what I’ve the K-POP artist aren’t doing that stuff on their own but they are literally own by their producer companies and they have to obey their decisions even if it means not to eat anything for a week to put their weight drastically down and they also live in apartments own by this companies and they are under 100% control. So I think there is not a way to date someone without the company’s concern because you are basically their slave.
@@xglock Mmh, I wouldn’t say it’s 100% true. Their agency have a lot of power over them but I wouldn’t say they’re their slave. At least not in the big companies but it’s true that some smaller agencies definitely take advantage of young aspiring artists.
@@OishiiM Yeah, having to ask millions of fans permission to marry someone seems pretty messed up to me. I understand having to focus on your career but that is just too extreme
as a kpop stan, if you ever do this again, maybe do a rumor about idols who are in the same group, or who have similar schedules, since it could be more believable that way

A few years back a student here in Germany did the exact same thing. He started the rumour that a German city doesn’t really exist and this has reached international attention by now and many people wonder whether „Bielefeld“ exists or not😂. All just because he wanted to prove how fast rumours spread

@@sl0thiie Not all things have the same meaning over the years. Just like gay now means homosexual when it used to mean happy. Or awful now has a negative connotation and meaning when it legit used to mean the person was full of awe. People just use it now to say they’re fans but more devoted then regular fans or casual listeners. They watch their live streams, watch their variety shows, follow their social medias, etc. They’re not literally saying they stalk them or something

As a kpop stan it's better you do research before saying something bad about some of us. + kpop companies sell informations about idols online that's why we know alot information about idols, kpop idols also say their schedules and information about them in lives

its defensive since some dating rumors within the kpop community have had idols kick out of groups and harrased due to the fact many korean fans hate when idols date, whether its true or just a rumor they will literally go in person and protest against their relationship. Some idols lives have been ruined to due rumors. There is currently an idol being flamed for dating before he debuted. no hate to mason though his videos are hilarious and he just didnt know how serious dating rumors are to them, and either way its for a video so after he just clears it up so its not as damaging as actual fake rumors. no hate to you either I just wanted to let you know.

George you gotta be careful when it comes to the k community because it isn’t like the western community. They care a lot about their image and fans are very protective of their artists. I do feel the need to warn you that as a kpop stan, we can get really protective over our favorite idols. Also, I understand that this probably wasn't going to become something a ton of people believed, but dating rumors can really ruin an idol's career if fans go too far, or at least cause them a ton of pain (cue the Jennie and V dating rumors).

just to give you some context as to why taeyeon fans got so mad at you, kpop companies (record labels) that manage these idols promote kpop groups in a way to create a huge parasocial relationship between the fans and the idols. some people, usually impressionable teens, are so lost in this parasocial relationship that it's common for kpop idols to lose fans after they begin dating/get married because the fans actually believe they could date/marry said idol. an example of that is chen, a member of exo (one of the biggest korean boy groups), who lost almost all his support after getting married and having children, even though he's in his 30's lol. keep in mind that this isn't all "korean fans" and not all "teen fans". i hate the generalization that happens. most people don't care. but the minority that cares IS LOUD. taeyeon herself got an absurd amount of hate for dating another exo' member, baekhyun, in 2015, and she still gets hated on about this TIL THIS DAY even though they've been broken up for years. anyway, that is why kpop stans might be so protective over dating rumours. i thought your video was very fun though!

Obviously you meant no harm, and I'm loving the idea of showing how quick rumors can spread... just be careful in the sense that artists have people following them that could be very dangerous for the artists if they believe this. Ya definitely hard to fool kpop fans with this kind of stuff. If you do attempt to make a rumor again like you said I would just suggest it to not be a dating rumor. I for one do not care who dates each other but so many people do for some reason and it causes a lot of drama. People have gotten kicked out of their groups and stuff like that just because of false rumors so please be careful!

I think the reason why kpop fans get so mad and defensive for their idols is because rumors in kpop is like a disease. It is some of the worst things that can happen if it blows up. Thankfully both Taeyeon and Jackson Wang are kinda doing their own stuff and it wasn't that huge ::)) But if you had tweeted about people who are still very invovled with their company and group and stuff like that and it blew up plus a lot of people believed it then that person who was part of a group could have gone on hiatus or straight up been kicked out of the group which basically means to ruin their career in kpop most likely.

As a kpop fan, the rumor was kinda random but funny for me. One thing i would like to say is that if you ever do this again please do not include any idols who are not from the big 4 because many times it could ruin their career as dating is mostly seen as a bad thing to do. Also, be careful about the intensity of the rumor cause if fans get too worked up the company might possibly sue you.

lol the reason they were really rude is that kpop idols can receive major backlash from Korean fans because of dating scandals, many idols have been kicked out of groups because of scandals. I do recommend making a fake acc of an idol on tiktok or something.
