    You can use a phone charger as well. Or and outlet plug. Best bet is use one from an electronic store with adjustable voltage. “ 9v is perfect for our Australian pre decimal coins that are coroded” I use mine for coins that i get with my detector. Its good for silver and copper coins. Iodized salt, stainless steel sacrficial, and boiling water. Well ventalated area of course. 👌🏻

    • @drasticg
      @drasticg  5 років тому +1

      ive got a strange one, i was grinding a chisel and no sparks came from it and a red colour dust came off it, but it had rust on so surely not brass or copper

    • @landraver90
      @landraver90 5 років тому +1

      drasticg if it’s a chisel G it will be made of hardened tool steel. There would have been sparks there but probably less than you’d expect, not the usual bright yellow and they’d probably be partially hidden by all the rust / grinder dust coming off at the same time 👍🏻

    • @landraver90
      @landraver90 5 років тому +1

      Not something I’ve ever done but it’s possible to get an idea of the basic composition of a steel by observing the colour etc of the sparks when ground

    I am into restoration of historic objects too. A good tip here is to also use Kettle de-scaler to soak the objects in before electrolysis. You can buy de-scaler in liquid form, or as crystals, it is an Alkali (Formic Acid), this gives of very strong fumes, so must be used with a mask and good ventilation, adding salt makes it stronger. This mixture used together with electricity and hot water, will be very effective on all metals as well as ferrous, though beware it will dissolve copper.

    • @drasticg
      @drasticg  5 років тому

      Thankyou so much for that tip 🤓

    • @G1ZQCArtwork
      @G1ZQCArtwork 5 років тому +1

      @@drasticg Sorry, I don't know why I called it an alkali, when it clearly is an acid, good for dissolving limescale ETC, it works on rust by breaking it down to black ore like colour, the electrolysis then can get to work better. But beware it stinks and will burn your nostrils and can cause eye damage from splashes, oh , and it takes your skin off too.......But it is great for rust.!!

    • @drasticg

    • @G1ZQCArtwork
      @G1ZQCArtwork 5 років тому +1

      @@drasticg Its very close to caustic soda. The acid will eat away at the crustaceans on the metal, as this is mostly calcium, (which lime consists of in your kettle in hard water areas).

    Hello Drastig,how ya doing son good l hope. Been stuck in my tent all day today, the weather up here in Scotland is seriously very wet and windy, so no cycling today. I'm lucky l brought my new battery charging pack with me.just watched 1 ad this time decided to watch the ads to piss off the clown who was giving you hassle about the pennies you're getting paid. But l passed the second ad this time as it was a 25 minute one about chemicals, UA-cam are not shy are they! You can use a 9 volt battery for what your doing the lower the voltage the better it works. Take care Drastig I'm going to cook up some fish l caught last night at the river Avon .👍🤔
