  • A labor of love several months in the making. I absolutely adore this game and its many intricacies and I hope you'll enjoy what I've put together.
    I've utilized many different techs, some of which I even developed myself, in conjunction with the extremely free-form combo system to produce something I can unabashedly say I'm really fucking proud of.
    I hope this video inspires people to play this game, as it's very much overlooked by the community and deserves more recognition.
    The rest of this description is dedicated to the various pieces of tech I used in this video so if you're not interested in that you can stop reading now.

    A list of the techs, then. Names aren't official or anything so don't think too hard about it lol
    Landing cancel -
    Using an aerial arte with a certain property (the theory at the time of writing is artes that are classified as jumps) just as you're about to land will cancel the animation of the arte but you'll maintain the momentum of the jump and gain height. Interestingly however, in this state the game considers you as being on the ground, which means you can use artes in the air that normally aren't aerial enabled. After performing an arte or doing any other action your status will be updated to airborne until you land again. Aerial enabled artes used with this glitch will default to their aerial versions, however, so you can't use grounded Shoukoujin in the air, for example.
    Homing step exploit -
    Grounded homing steps towards airborne enemies in Hearts DS send you flying in an arc which can make it difficult to chain certain artes together without good timing.
    If you jump right before performing an aiming step, however, you'll be sent speeding towards the enemy without an arc, making follow-ups easier.
    It's essentially an aerial homing step really close to the ground.
    Homing step side-swap -
    In the right conditions you can pass diagonally over an enemy in the air while using a normal attack following a homing step.

      Thanks a lot, James! I'm really glad I was able to showcase that piece of tech at least a little bit in this vid, lord knows it's an absolute pain to work landing cancels into functional combos lol (unless you're playing Ines, she's unironically amazing in that context because Mermaid June ticks every single box for that glitch)

      Yeah I unfortunately couldn't come up with any cool stuff with Beryl or Kohaku so they're sadly absent from this video. Maybe some other time 🤔

    Holy BASED
    The sheer amount of sidesteps and crazy air to ground transitions were insane. There were quite a few moments where I was just floored that Shing in particular could land from that high up in the air and still follow up that fast. The whole sequence at 3:31 had me do a double take.
    I can tell this was the product of countless hours of labbing, and discovering just how much you were able to chain together and get away with had to have been an unforgettable experience for you lol.

      This was definitely one of the most enjoyable projects I've done in years, just learning how everything worked and figuring out cool stuff was a ton of fun!

    Dear god, it feels so good to see the first combo vid of Hearts DS worth a damn and it's glorious!
    I fucking love how you've been using Bakuenken the whole vid but also all the side switching, touchdown and usage of extended chain stagger is ridiculous!
    Will just point out some stuff that stuck out to me, but the whole thing was fucking a joy to watch!
    0:48 with the damn hitbox lol
    Knowing how gravity works here, 0:57 is really damn tight lol
    1:19 landing cancel Majinken Shouga, noice, into fucking Makuuga, no less lol
    1:26 said it before, but this is the perfect example of it, this is a great showcase of how zigzaggy Shing can really be and looping around the enemy twice was just insane!
    2:21 aerial Ankle Press to side switch and then to another aerial Mael Tornado side switch!! Ya gotta stop man!
    3:05 Kuuretsuen into glide Shouseijin and then side switch in 3:11, very fuckin smooth!
    3:30 how in the heck did you get the late hit of Shouseijin, that was hilariously tight lol

      No Kohaku or Beryl combos sadly, couldn't come up with any fun combo ideas for them when working on this. Maybe some other time.

      I personally prefer the original but it's hard to compare it to the remake because they're so different. Both are worth playing tho!

    Why do all that combo with different techs? Most characters have at least one move which you can spam over and over for infinite combo.

      True, but Tales combo videos nowadays are more about showing off what you can do with the characters and pushing the battle system to its limits, so having good damage output or being optimal isn't really a factor here. These combos aren't practical at all, they're just supposed to be cool to watch.
