@@nicksaysboo17 there’s a few subtle hints that the mum is molesting Nina. The most convincing one, for me, is that “Lily” calls her sweet girl during their sex scene, as does Erica a few other times throughout the movie 🫣
I saw this movie twice in theater. The second time I made a different group of friends see it with me because of how spectacular I thought it was. The first watch I remember being stunned during the dance club scene, and was amazed by the editing. I still love that scene so much! Nina didn't pee standing up, she was puking, which was a nod to how lots of ballet dancers have eating disorders. Nina was weird about food, but they didn't fully focus on that. The bitchy dancer was played by Ksenia Solo who was in this show Lost Girl I used to watch. She's super fun in that show, the exact opposite of her role in Black Swan. I wish she'd pop up in more things I watch, like her a lot.
I watched this for the first time recently and let me tell you. When it comes to horror I can handle any gore but when it comes to body horror, specifically nail trauma, NOPE! I can’t with the nail trauma it’s the one thing that makes me cringe! Still enjoyed the movie tho 😂🫠
I haven't seen this movie since it came out, so I had forgotten a lot. The nail trauma, however, stayed with me and will stay with me forever. It was too much... too much I tell you. 😩
The sound effects of the nail snipping and bone cracking are definitely anxiety-inducing. There's an all-male Swan Lake production, it's featured at the end of another famous ballet movie, Billy Elliot.
I would have taken it a step further and said, “it’s not my fault that I’m better than everyone.” You know, I think my therapist was right, I’m not a good person… ugh whatever. 😅 Love your look in this video Nick! 🦢👑🖤
About the Swan Lake song in the beginning, I think (take that with a grain of salt cause I don't know this for a fact) that in this one was of course cause of the whole swan concept and in Abigail probably for the weight this song and the role of the white swan has in the ballet scene. It seems to be the most important performance in many ballet movies, and one of the most important in the ballet scene in general, so I figured that's why everyone uses it. It's probably very hard to perform too, from what I've heard, and it's always brought up as the challenge the protagonist ballerina has to face. So yeah I guess seeing someone perform it on screen, either is supposed to mean they are very skilled dancers or aspire to be (like in Abigail's case, she probably enjoyed the play as a big fan of ballet and also due her immortality had probably mastered it, but it could also be playing on the theme of innocent white swan versus the evil black one).
My parents are the same!! The number of movies I wasn't allowed to watch certain movies was expansive. We would get movies from the library and they would screen them and then instantly return them if we couldn't watch them. They do the same they make me close my eyes and fast forward to those scenes. And if there are too many they turn it off or switch to something else. When I'm in my early 30s. The main genre we actually couldn't watch was comedy because of s*xual jokes or themes. We went to see The Nutty Professor in theaters and our parents made us walk out and leave.
Love movies that mindf*ck their protagonist even more than those that mindf*ck me. I think Aronofsky still denies the inspiration, but if you're open for anime, it would be cool to compare this with the movie Perfect Blue.

Love this movie just rewatched yesterday. Saw the ballet live on Friday at Crysler Hall. Loved it. Had to tell my mom the story because she had no idea what was going on 🤣🤣🤣 Suspiria isnt ballet boo lol Natalie Portman justifiably got an Oscar for this well deserved
Always a mildly odd feeling when I see folks react to a film that I worked on. LOL, and got to one of the shots I keep on my reel, and yep that reaction to it is why, always generates discussion & a reaction.
You have no idea how much I love the dedication when you do things like costumes/makeup for reactions. Loooove it 💜 also, this movie awakened my lesbian heart - it's just unfortunate I saw it in a packed theater sitting between my mom and older brother 😅
This movie is absolutely amazing. Thank you for this reaction, Nick. And i looove your makeup. You ate! ❤ ps: please watch Smile 2. It is very very scary, freak and awesome.
Dont ' know if you know the story of Swan Lake. You have Odette who was cursed by Rothbart (the black bird looking thing) to be swan by day and human at night. Odile (black swan) seduces her prince and she dies at the end. We are basically watching the play metaphorically play out in real life with the director being the prince. She kept seeing Mila as the black swan seducing the prince but also seeing herself because she wants to be the one able to do so. And the director as a tiny defense I could see what he was trying to do. First off I am sure he wanted to give her the part from the start. I say that because he still gave it to her even without doing anything. However, as the director he has to consider can she pull of black swan. When she came to his office he likely thought did she come to seduce? Lets see what she does because again what was stopping him from giving her the part was black swan. So when he said that's it it was likely legit disappointment not because he wanted to sleep with her. Pretty much for him she was giving off virgin energy and that wasn't right for the black swan part and the stuff we see was him trying to make it work with her after giving her the part. Yeah zooming in on the thigh would make it look worse but like he was doing the ballet move. In comparison lot of latin dances would be considered seductive. But the point he was trying to prove is as he said he seduced her when she was the one supposed to be seducing. Might point out the mother mentioning reputation but could also mean reputation of being a hardass. We can gather she has a history of self harm due to stress and having a particularly strict director could cause it again. That's why we hear the mother mention her not being able to handle the part. Just saying it didn't seem he had a reputation for sleeping with dancers and further on we don't see him try anything else. EDIT: He should watch The Perfection
Is it bad that I think Nina was actually saved at the end of the movie? Maybe a sequel would have been made where Nina starts to get better. Which episode in Angel did Angel, Cordelia, and the rest of the characters dress up in fancy attire?
one of the best movies😍 alot of troubling and cringy moments, and the fact her mom seen something was going on with her and did everything to help her I know thats right

I've seen this movie like 3 times and not once did I think she was puking. I was like "oh she pees standing up. ok" 😭😭😭
And it's clearly showing she has a eating disorder. It was so obvious. I don't understand how anyone can't understand that.
