What does God need with man? Why does man create? In this, I believe that we are a mirror of what the divine intended with humans, if indeed the divine exists in some separate form. Each being is a thread within a tapestry we weave, free to choose yet set by our natures to choose in keeping with that tapestry of fate. We are an experiment, set to see what it is that we will create upon that tapestry. We are paintbrushes upon an eternity.
On the topic of religion, and God, and fiction (not to imply that the former two are fiction, just so we're clear) I had a very insightful discussion in a college course earlier today. The more I seek truth the more I learn that it is unobtainable and that we know far less than we think. It is maddening because I am entirely defined by the desire for truth.
Por que Deus precisa de pessoas, para convencer outras pessoas de sua existência? Se ele é real e onipotente, por que ele não pode me convencer sozinho?
I love this movie. I can't believe people insult it so much. The central themes are really fascinating and the plot between the characters is just great. It inspired me to get to know the person I called my best friend a lot better. To find out what hadn't been said. And the search for God? Can't get better than that.
Well said my friend. Even though you said this 4 years ago. What really is time a constraint that only exists with we mortals. The father knows that we are but dirt and doesn't expect more that we're capable of doing but loves us 100% of the time even when we are totally screwing up. Thank God for his patience with us at his understanding of our frailties.
I was about to say, this is pretty much how God behaves in the Bible. If Christians ever bothered to read that stupid thing in its entirety, and not just the highlights, they'd see a very different God than the all-loving, all-forgiving one they've been selling.

I'd discard mine to find truth. Those core ideals that feel like part of your soul...it would hurt beyond words to discard them, but I would. Truth is my one absolute desire.
With two sentences he disproved the being's claim to be God. 1. he's limited by physicality, because he needs a starship. Not to carry an artefact or an irreplaceable item on the planet, but himself. 2. he's limited in his knowledge, since he doesn't know Kirk.
I say that's reasonable Through science we know that the cosmos had a beginning. That means all we can observe in the universe, time space and matter (all of nature) had a beginning. We also know that these things are co-dependent to the extent that they can't possibly exist without each other. That said, whatever the cause of the nature is must be beyond nature, as something can't create itself as that violates causality. The only concept that is describe to be beyond time/space/matter is a God

The more I seek truth the more I learn that it is unobtainable and that we know far less than we think. It is maddening because I am entirely defined by the desire for truth.
having true knowledge supercedes the need for blind faith
This would have made a great two part episode...but as a movie?
Actually the journey to reach "God" was surprisingly easy.
Classic Star Trek 🤣
At least shake the camera a little going through the barrier.
Not many of the older ones soooo...ya got me there. :p
god: Who is this creature?
Kirk: Oh. Like that!? Ooh, you've gone and fucked up, homie.
"What does God need with a starship?"
Well, that's the god of the old testament! What did you expect?
I was about to say, this is pretty much how God behaves in the Bible. If Christians ever bothered to read that stupid thing in its entirety, and not just the highlights, they'd see a very different God than the all-loving, all-forgiving one they've been selling.
CrazyHorseInvincible it says homosexuals are going to hell just because of there sexuality, what kind of loving and forgiving god would say that?
True!
That was the old-testament! Times have changed.
Dieperdors W it doesn't matter, the old testament is still canon with the story, your god still said this...... well he didn't..... because he doesn't exist....
He does not want a starship, he wants SpaceX.
Kirk's middle fingers are at full mast.
Best part of the movie 👍
2:26 The epitome of everything Kirk.
YES! Couldn't agree more :)
Quick! Somebody call Charlton Heston! He knows how to talk to God!
I bet it was just Q messing with them lol
there was actually a book about that, not far wrong
@tsm688 Q was bored and asked the Guardian of Forever to show him something new, it showed him a being called 0 who was trapped in an interdimensional prison.
He let him out and 0 then used the Guardian to bring forth (*) also known as the Beta XII-A entity (TOS episode 'Day of the Dove'), the Gorgon (TOS episode 'And The Children Shall Lead') and The One (Star Trek V).
hah 'god' pwned Kirk with the his sith energy beam attack right at the end there ;)
Good video, thanks
Somebody give Charlton Heston a call---he'll know how to deal with this.
Thank you very much for the reply, I'll check the movie out.
haha his moustache does not get the credit it deserves, sooo curly!!
Anyone else notice that the category of this video is "Comedy"?
The awesomly cool thing about this clip is that Bones is actually god ; )
Kirk handling an intergalactic scam call center rep.
The only Star Trek movie I saw in the cinema... this one....
I'd discard mine to find truth. Those core ideals that feel like part of your soul...it would hurt beyond words to discard them, but I would. Truth is my one absolute desire.
If I were that alien, I'd say "I wish to walk amongst you and learn about what I missed."
Where is that from?
@@goranmilic442 Nowhere. I just made it up. Sounded biblical though.
With two sentences he disproved the being's claim to be God.
1. he's limited by physicality, because he needs a starship. Not to carry an artefact or an irreplaceable item on the planet, but himself.
2. he's limited in his knowledge, since he doesn't know Kirk.
With a starship. God this site needs an edit function.
I say that's reasonable
Through science we know that the cosmos had a beginning.
Every time you come to a hill in your car, do you get out and visually verify that no car is coming over the hill in your lane? Or do you just have Blind Faith that the other guy knows how to drive?
This film is pretty low on my list of Star Trek movies, but pretty high on my list of Shatner fun.
ooooh i believe now take me great lord
Clearly this isn't the xian god, cause this guy is cool. "Lessee, I'ma give myself... ooh, I know! Lazer eyes!!!" Clearly he was locked behind the barrier because his fellows were jealous of him.
Well, the Klingons did brought their ship closer.
Kirk was so smart to know that it wasn‘t God that he,Spock,McCoy & Sybok were talking to because God doesn‘t need a starship to travel wherever he wants to go The impostor asked Kirk his name when he was doubting him.
Bones having no skepticism in this scene makes him look like an idiot lol.
God would know Capt. Kirk is in charge of his 2nd starship Enterprise.
In the theaters we all repeated it
😊
This remember to the story: "Father" in the book Strange Relationships by Philip Jose Farmer
"ARE YOU A GOD?!?!? THEN... DIIIIIIIIIIE!!!!!!!!!"
Lol.
Pretty Legitimate question if you ask me!. Does god want to display the starship on his imaginary sky shelf???.
I love this scene. I like to think they looked for God and found Lucifer instead.
