Tai chi can definitely be used to fight just as much as any other style of traditional martial art. I've never found a class that uses sparring, but I have definitely found it very useful for clinching and developing short range power in knees and elbows now I do Muay Thai. If you don't spar properly you can't fight properly, but all the techniques still have applications regardless. I really enjoyed the video. There's some mad stuff in here.
@laohu666-t4p that's a bit of a tautology. I think it's accurate in the same way a broken clock is accurate twice a day. There are thousands of people who say they practice tai chi chuan, like they're something special, and they still can't fight their way out of a wet paper bag.
Y in Japanese is not actually pronounced as a separate "ee" sound, but just as a consonant. This is difficult for some English speakers, though, so it's common to pronounce Tokyo as "to-ki-o." "Ryu" adds in the additional difficulty of Japanese r, which isn't a sound that exists in English. I think it's best in English to just learn to pronounce the vowels correctly and pronounce the consonants however you'd normally read them. (I don't speak Japanese so this may not be 100% correct. Overall I think the most important thing is to just try your best and be respectful when pronouncing foreign words.)
Outstanding. As you said Silat is a huge topic. From special forces and local weapon training, to female self defence and cultural preservation. From murder to dance. Cheers ❤
Kida hot take on silat. Silat nowadays got rid of the mcdojo crap. Pressure points are only used as a plus, pinching the muscles when grabbing the neck. The pencak, show and dance, aspect is used to preserve the cultural heritage, to learn the drills and right stances. The silat style develope in the netherlands, bongkot harimau highly deals with real world application and even takes into account local laws in regards to self defense. Hi! I did kenpo for about 8 years and it was totally cult like but also when we practiced the different techniques we were taught that in actual combat/self defense you would only use the first 2-3 movements
MMA was created by the New Jersey boxing commission, not UFC. Early UFC was Vale Tudo, which the Gracie's did not invent, and before UFC there was even Pancrase in Japan which was more or less modern reincarnation of Pankration. Whatever you think about MMA, it wasn't invented by the Gracie's, it was invented by people who didn't like what the Gracies were doing in the United States.
@@Shush959 Pankration comes from ancient Greece originally and was one of the main events in the ancient Olympics. The greater point I'm trying to make is that like many other aspects of traditional Western culture MMA style combat sports were first seen in ancient Greece, and New Jersey certainly isn't a state that tends to like anything that is "Traditional", "Western", or "Culture". Call me a madman but I'm somewhat convinced there is a low level conspiracy to keep Queensbury rules boxing more popular than MMA.
@@christophernewton8474 Srry my bad, I meant the promotion Pancrase lol. And with the boxing media and things. I wouldn't be surprised either if Queensbury rules had like a early-Gracie UFC thing to promote boxing more than MMA. As MMA has had instances of being shamed by the media for being viewed as Human cockfighting.
@@Shush959if you go back far enough sumo was actually an ancient mma before there were even rules and the fights were to the death. Eventually they added rules over time and now we have sumo wrestling. It also explains why stomps and soccer kicks are allowed in J mma because from reccords about ancient sumo fights the fighters realised they could win a fight quicker by grappling the guy to the ground and stomps or kicking them till they died.

Actual pro wrestling. The first forms of grappling as we know it today being professionalized and real fights up out. Sad that it was kept from growing in order to create this weird modern theater like WWE.
The local American kempo school I went to for a free class one tome had higher belts do full contact sparring with like foot pads, weird sparring gloves, and headgear.
