"I have no one to talk to about curly hair." Yes I feel the same way. Thanks for sharing your journey, it was very relatable. Now when people tell me my hair is ugly or that I should straighten it, I don't believe them anymore, I can truly see that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. 😍

ahhh! Yes! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm so happy you don't believe them anymore. I don't too and it took so much. I'm happy where we're at

Damn when you said they told you you wouldn't get hired that's exactly how I feel now. My mom told me about 2 weeks ago that I look like I have rass( dreads) and won't get a job because of it. I have bra strap length, thick type 4 hair. I love it so much and I'm trying to accept it in its natural form but that really hurt me 😔

My mother has always been talking shit about my hair when I was little, calling me names like "Bob Marley", in a derogative way.
I grew up into a very hung-up woman who hated her hair and spent years permanently straightening them, until I decided not so long ago that I was going to stop the hassle, and start to accept and love them.
Now my hair is at the very beginning of its transition and have a loong way to recover, but I swear if my closer ones start talking shit about my hair again, I'm going to warn them first, and eventually keep away from them.
I'm way too sensitive to bear this negative feedbacks about an appearance I am already struggling to accept !

Yes girl! For me, growing up I never understood my hair and just thought it was frizzy and decided to straighten it everyday in my early 20s when I went to work, of course I want doing it right and I'm still helping my hair regain strength and get curly/ wavy again

Wishing you the best on your journey. 🤎My hair gets super frizzy too when I don’t style it so that’s why I straighten it a lot too.

Thanks for the video. Love the honesty. So many of us have struggled. I hated the hair comments. I was from a small town and no one know how to cut curly hair or style it. My mom didn’t have curly hair. I wish I had the knowledge I have now 30 years ago. It would have made such a difference in my confidence. My niece is so lucky as she has access to all this information while she enters her teenage years. Your hair looks amazing. You do you. Happy holidays. Cheers 🥂

Happy holidays! 🤎 I also wish I had all of the information I have now years ago. It would’ve saved me tears & my confidence would’ve been so much better. I’m glad we’ve learned so much & im glad the newer generation has more knowledge 🤎

As a guy with curly hair who recently decided to grow it out, this speaks numbers to me, the stigma of curly hair being ugly and unprofessional is annoying and sad, it especially sucks in the awkward stages when people say it looks bad, im thankful for my hair and what it represents.

I’m thankful for my hair too and what it represents. I agree the strigma on curly hair is annoying. Thankfully things have changed over the years 🫶🏼

Great video! Isn’t it crazy how something simple as hair can change so much about our feelings about ourselves. I changed so much in my life at the point where I changed my attitude toward my hair and as I learned to embrace it. People think it’s just hair but it can boost ur confidence so much.

I completely agree. I hated my hair growing up. I’m mixed and the only one in my family with hair like mine. I started learning curly girl stuff back in 2006 and been natural since then so my now I’ve learned my hair pretty well and wouldn’t change it for anything. 👍🏾

I can feel the pain in anyone's voice when they talk about how much they hated their nantural curly hair cause I was there too and I'm sure we all have sad stories.
for me throughout my life there's many times I really wanted to love my hair and I really tried to take care of it even as a kid, there was times I was trying TOO hard but hearing comments from people around me brings me really down especially hearing it from people with straight hair it feels like an insult lol.
5 years ago I read for the first time about curly hair and how to take care of it and I was like woah! many things to do and learn!! but I was hella happy and excited seeing before and after picutres of women with curly hair and how healthy it turns.
I think the big change for me that I'm really proud of, is me hearing comments sometimes but not feeling hurt and just think people have different opinions espeically old folks. it's alright not all of them will accept it and it's not my problem either I'm not here to change anyone's opinion. I also love how brave I was when I wear it for the first time infront of those who hurt me the most about it, it feels a bit fun seeing them still getting annoyed ngl lol
anyway thanks for sharing your story! and you all, be gratful that you have a lovely hair💛

Girl I have been on my journey for about 2 years. It has taken me 45 years to try and figure this out, and I am still learning. No one in my family had curls and back in the day it was definitely not "beautiful" to have curls. And almost every day it seems I still hear "you should straighten your hair. It would look so good"
I want to tell you that I have been watching your videos since I started and I have learned so much from you and others that I have found. I appreciate all that you do for us curly girls. Keep up the wonderful job

    You're very brave : )
I started my curly hair journey 2 years ago and only just permanently put to rest my flat iron. I do a roller set for work as it is very unruly-looking, but will definitely try going curly full time once it is a little longer xx

Thank you sooo much for this! Im Colombian and was born with wavy hair and then it curled over the years and wasn't shown how to take care of it, putting on harsh products including gels that felt like a helmet! Deep conditioning for me was either the Dominican Deep Conditioner that my hairstylist recommended and so on... Now thanks to videos like this I am learning so much! Gracias!

Unfortunately in the Spanish community, curly frizzy hair, “Pelo malo”, is looked down upon. My mom thinks I look unkept and crazy, lol. I love my curly crown, it has taken a long time to go out with m uniqueness.
