Haven’t heard this song in over 15 years and still just as powerful today as it was back then.
In fact it’s more touching today due to all life experiences I’ve been through. The lyrics are more impactful.
This band are true artist and their music is deep and very beautiful sounding.
The singer, guitarist and drummer you guys are all amazing

"Morning comes too early and nighttime falls too late
And sometimes all I want to do is wait
The shadow I've been hiding in has fled from me today"
Can a song, make you change lifestyle? Yes. Dream Theater can do this with their masterpieces ... And "surrounded" is one of them. Fantastic guitar solo, beautiful keyboard riff and the voice of James LaBrie... Amazing! A young band with so much more to give... This is 1992... This is "Images and Word".
"Le mattine vengono troppo presto e la notte cala troppo tardi
E a volte tutto ciò che voglio fare è aspettare
Le ombre nelle quali mi sono nascosto sono svanite da me oggi"
Può una canzone, farti cambiare modo di vivere? Si. I Dream Theater riescono a fare questo con i loro capolavori... E "surrounded" è uno di questi. Assolo di chitarra fantastico, riff di tastiera magnifico, e la voce di James LaBrie... Spettacolare! Un giovane gruppo con ancora tanto dare... Questo è il 1992... Questo è "Images and Word".

I CAN relate this to one of my guitar idols, Jimmy Page, he is in his mid 70's, and they saw his 80's video, and critique after comment, and saying he can't play that now, well, no shite lol!! Yes, its trolls and youth, but critical thinking skills do not exist on You tube at times. sad to say, Love this band and John as well:)

    Singing together
    Morning comes too early ,
And night time falls too late.
And sometimes all I want to do is wait.
The shadow I've been hiding in
    Has fled from me today.
    I know it's easier
    To walk away,
Than look it in the eye.
But I will raise a shelter to the sky
And here beneath this star tonight I'll lie
She will slowly yield the light
As I awaken from the longest night.
Dreams are shaking set sirens waking up tired eyes
With the light the memories all rush into his head.
By a candle stands a mirror of his heart and soul she dances
She was dancing through the night above his bed.
    And walking to the window
He throws the shutters out against the wall
And from an ivory tower hears her call
    "Let light surround you"
It's been a long, long time
He's had a while to think it over
In the end he only sees the change
    Light to dark
    Dark to light
    Light to dark
    Dark to light
Heaven must be more than this
When angels waken with a kiss
Sacred hearts won't take the pain
But mine will never be the same
    He stands before the window
His shadow slowly fading from the wall
And from an ivory tower he hears her call
    "Let the light surround you"
Once I was but I was found.
When I heard the stained glass
    Shatter all around me.
She whispers words to clear my mind.
I once could see but now at last,
    I'm blind.
    I know it's easier
    To walk away,
Than look it in the eye.
But I have given all that I could take.
And now I've only habits left to break.
Tonight I'll still be lying here surrounded
    In all the light.

Heard this song 3 years ago. I still have no idea what the lyrics refer to. Some say it was about Portnoy's addiction to drugs. I don't know man...either way this song is soo beautiful and mysterious at the same time lyrics wise alone.
