Was on Japan few months a go the most amazing place I have ever been I'm going next time will try to climb the mountain but will need to go with some one if some one is available 😊.
There are lots of groups that you can join (on Facebook for example) for hiking in Japan where you can find other people to hike Mt Fuji with! Try 'hiking, climbing and camping in Japan' 😀
Great video! Lots of good info. Even though my experience was a bit unorthodox, I fully agree with your recommendations. I went with old trainer shoes. No problems, but it's probably an exception. Also, I hiked thru the night (Fujinomiya trail) during the full moon on 8/15 (O-Bon - お盆: the sacred holiday honoring dead ancestors). Put my headlamp away and hiked alone so that I could see the mountainside in the full moonlight. It's much less crowded at night. Im a fat boy, so I don't get cold easily. I hiked in shorts and a tee shirt with an ear band for the wind protection at the top. The temps at 2:00 am were brutal with the breeze and being drenched in sweat from the hike. But that only lasted 3-4 hours. I had extra clothes in my pack. I was glad I hadn't packed all the extra weight of snow clothes, especially for the hike down in the sun. I wish I would've brought a hiking stick. Big mistake to not take one for the hike down. Once again, I really enjoyed your video. I just wanted to let people know that there are many ways to climb Mt. Fuji.
That moonlit climb must have been amazing, what an experience! We could have done with the winter clothes as the ones that we brought we nowhere near warm enough, but this is all dependent on the conditions of the day I guess. Thanks for the comment and sharing your experience, the more people share the better prepared others can be! 😀
@@wegoeast Yep. It was raining when I got off the bus at the 5th station, but soon stopped and completely cleared up. The sky was a beautiful azure and the towns were lit up with a faint orange glow from the city lights, while the moon above was bright enough such that I could read a book. Truly a memorable experience.
@@traveller_andrew Yes they were. I also just summited fuji on 8/2/2023. It was surprised by my total time. 6 hours and 47 minutes, this includes the ascend, time on top (40 minutes) and descending. Day hiked it while taking the first bus from Kawaguchiko station. Got back down to 5th station before 3pm.
We actually vlogged our hike, so you can watch us throughout the whole hike! But to answer your questions, we started around 6pm and no guide! You don't really need a guide either, the path is very well marked out and there will always be other people doing the hike
I didn't see any for sale on the mountain, although they probably have them (you'll pay a premium / they'll likely sell out). If I were you I'd try and buy one before travelling to Mt. Fuji (Don Quijote are in every city and have them in stock, or try Super Sports Xebio, also everywhere). If you're travelling to Fuji by Shinkansen there are shops in the shinkansen station that sell them
Do you mean flying to Japan or back from japan? We bought ours from the shop at the shinkansen station at Fujiyama. For taking it back to your home country, you could try and check it in - Japan is very lenient on checking in items (so long as the stick counts as one of your checked items of luggage). If not I would try and send it internationally - Kuroneko is a great service!
You can still climb Mt. Fuji at night! But between 4pm and 3am you will be required to reserve a mountain hut / officials will check that you have a reservation. Prior to 4pm you can still set off without a hut reservation I believe.
Hmm I'd say these are not top 10. You need a rain coat, the weather could turn at any time. Hiking boots are a terrible idea, you only want hiking shoes or trail runners...boots are heavy and seasoned hikers will just cringe when they pass you. Most importantly, lots of practice up step gradients in the shoes you plan to hike up in. Finally you're at altitude, rest at 5th station for a few hours before you start your ascent! Plus drinking lots of water, towards 1 litre per hour while hiking.
Hello everyone! Have you ever climbed Mt. Fuji?? Is it something on your Japan bucket list? Let us know in the comments :)

Great video !!
Gabriel traveler hiked fuji in sandals, what a legend.
Those were hiking sandals though

What month did you climb? 😊
We climbed in August! If you can do it during the week and avoid the weekend it'll be much quieter!
do they sell any head torch’s? on the mountain?

You can also rent it, I think theres a shop at the fifth station.
Hey how did you bring the wooden stick ?! Like do japan airline allow it from flight

No altitude sickness? I got it when going up years ago
Ashley did get a bit of altitude sickness on the way up. Having longer rest periods helped her as did the oxygen right at the top!
