It's not that amazing, frankly. Who needs "formal musical training", when your father is a professional musician and you've been practicing your craft ever since you could hold an instrument, just like your father and his father before you...? Don't be fooled by their lack of formal diplomas - these guys were smacked by their fathers as children, when they played the wrong notes and they've practiced all day, every day for a looong time.

As a western musician I greatly appreciate the music of cultures other than my own. Nevertheless, I had to hear this through several times before I began to comprehend the complex patterns and rhythms of this incredible piece of music or how these fellows could even stay together playing as furiously as they are. I got it figured out! I am now a huge fan of these guys... ...the most amazing musicians I've ever heard in my life. Violins, accordians and even the cimbalom playing at flying speed in perfect unison! ...and they make it look easy and fun. I cannot imagine what it must be like to be this good at anything.
You also have to take their origins in consideration. I am from Serbia, for example, and we have similar kind of etno music to this. Different rythms, paterns, arrangements. For people from other cultures it seems very complicated, but for us it's simply in blood. We grow up with it, just like these guys. They of course had to practice a lot, but it's in their blood.

Wow! My ears are smiling after listening to 8:58 of blow your face out music! I was on ebay yesterday & buying some CD's when I came across this group. I clicked on the CD,"Band of Gypsies" (Yes, Jimi Hendrix would approve!) mainly because I love Gogol Bordello,cause Gypsy caught my eye. I looked at the CD cover and saw 2 accordians, 2 violins, an upright bass & thought to myself, now this could be pretty entertaining. So I bought it on that evidence alone. What an aural treat! Best buy for sure
