    I like how Ariah toned the canvas from light to dark in the foreground. Really smart to have richer, darker warm tones show through up in front to push back the background. Your greens really pop in the water. Nice palette.

    Beautiful paintings Michael and Ariah (happy birthday). Loved the yellow toning on Ariah’s and it looked like the whites of the clouds on yours were tinted lavender - gorgeous.

    I like the burnt sienna purple combo in the rocks and the white smacking right into it. Great bright feeling. I also like how you don't over do the rocks too... "just say what you want to say, and get out"

    Michael the cloud and sky tones with how you leave space for the lighted cloud areas was very interesting. I thought the yellow wash Aria used for his sky area is an interesting idea to try get some luminosity under your sky tones...you should give that a try, I will. Great lesson thankyou 😉

      Thanks Bert! I'm definitely going to try toning with yellow again. Yellow ochre wasn't strong enough. I may try Hansa Yellow Light.

    Very nice composition
    The speed , certainty, ease, natural self evidency ( ánd still accuracy !) and liveliness with which you work is truly phenomenal and stunning
    Thanks for posting this Mike; Happy NYear !
    I think ... maybe this here work would have more... unity and would (still) be móre convincing if the light in the sky matched more the light on the sea ?!?
    ( Maybe some "silver lining" ... or/and maybe even the setting sun itself
    Would love to see you experiment and "play around" with this idea:
    what do you think ?)
    Very nice clouds btw; loved how you cut off the highest one: perfect compo !

    Ariah and I share a birthday! Happy Birthday Ariah! What a wonderful day to paint and a really nice outcome. I find lately that I am anticipating your moves within the process now Michael. I can think of what you're going to next in your painting. I'm not 100% right of course, but it is interesting to be able to "paint along with you." Both pieces are excellent. I love seeing the two perspectives and styles of the same scene. It's really enlightening. I look forward to the new year. Happy New Year to you, and Ariah too.

    Wow very beautiful painting Mike, Ariah's painting is also very good. It's true you don't always start painting the sky like he did but I guess it's because the light on the water is changing so radically you focus there first. I could never start a painting by the foreground lol...I always do the sky first. Well have a wonderful 2022, full of success and health! Cheers!

    • @chamberlainpaintings
      @chamberlainpaintings  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Martin! I sometimes start with the sky, but not very often. I usually work from dark to light so the sky is often last. Wishing you a happy and healthy 2022 as well!

      @martingimenez339 2 роки тому

      chamberlainpaintings Thanks Mike! Yes the dark to light I do it too, but after the shadows are set I go from backgroud to foreground, I use the light from the sky to set the values on the groud if that makes sense.

    Perfect spot for potential buyers too. I've sold one still wet once and had to come back to the same spot , the next day , to paint the scene again for someone else. A good day that.

    HI Michael, first off: best wishes for 2022! Great vid as usual! Makes me want to get out there also but I'm finding myself doing most of my painting indoors in this season... Just wondering: could you do a timer or something alongside your plein air painting? I'm curious to see how long the various phases take you. Thanks for sharing.

    • @paintingsofwaves_mikewoning
      @paintingsofwaves_mikewoning 2 роки тому +1

      PS Ariah's sky rocks! Very nicely painted.

    • @chamberlainpaintings
      @chamberlainpaintings  2 роки тому

      Thank Mike! I don't think a timer would work because there are too many shots. It would be an editing nightmare lol. It usually takes about 10 mins for the sketch, 10-20 mins for block in, and then the rest is spent refining. Most paintings take about 2 hrs. total. If the drawing is complicated it can take a bit longer.

    Mike, I've envious you can go outside and paint - this video was just posted yesterday - and I"m in Maine where it's 21 degrees and expected to be even colder tomorrow. Brrrr.. How often do you paint indoors, and under what conditions (rainy day, good detailed photograph, etc)?

    • @chamberlainpaintings
      @chamberlainpaintings  2 роки тому

      Yikes that's cold. I haven't painted indoors in months. I only paint indoors when painting large. 30x40" for example.

    Ariah’s use of brushwork and paint is so creative in this one. The colors and the way he captured the light is amazing. The technique you used of leaving little areas unpainted works spectacularly in this painting. I am repeating myself, but it is amazing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thanks for sharing! Peace and love..Suz What ☮️💛
