Michael, the furthest cliff, that little bit of darker green hue, feels like it adds prominence , and indicates a depth on the beach, although it’s not directly seen behind it’s height, the leading edge of bleeding top soil , from under the grass still keeps a feeling of uniformity at the same time. I like the cliffs the most, beautiful painting Michael

Great point to move back from the painting to check the composition and color. Just be careful, we can get so working in the moment as to trip over a chair in the studio or a root on the ground and hopefully not fall off a cliff! HAA! Cheers-Greg

Magic captured, drama in 14 and 52
Both Ariah and Michael keep sand in view
Squint for shape, shadow, exaggerated hue
Step back, advice from our plein air guru
Simple shapes, cold even in the flannel

Great work by both of you! Love his palette knife applications which make it look fresh and spontaneous. His sky was really well done giving the scene the light you were viewing at that specific time. Your simplicity is always your best suit. Both really nice paintings.

Made excellent teatime viewing in a blustery sun and shower day in England, about 45F but colder in the wind - a pot of tea and toasted English Muffins as you call them (crumpets here!) to warm up with the Californian coast. Both paintings capture the day and the spirit of the place and the colour harmonies work so well.
