Karen Carpenter was not only an amazing vocalist, but she was also an amazing and accomplished drummer. Watch Close To You , this will show how talented she truly was. It is so sad that hervlifended before her career could have fully flourished. That angelic voice will forever be On Top Of The World. RIP Karen Back in the 1970s, music videos did not exist as of yet. All videos we from that era will most always be from live performances. The 1970s were a greatvtime for amazing vocalists because itcwas long before auto tune.
There are good singers, great singers, legendary singers, and then there is the one and only Karen Carpenter. Her VOICE would be the 8th wonder of the world if they decided they needed it.
If not for a reaction here, you should hear for your own enjoyment Karen in a duet with legendary jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald. Is mandatory for any Carpenter fan (as you became this last Year)!!!! 🤩✌️
Toppop was a Dutch studioshow which was broadcasted from 1970-1988. It was very popular amongst artist to perform their latest song there being filmed in a every year changing set. Those days there were no videoclips like today, so they loved performing on Toppop. Most of the time the artists playbacked the song and Toppop made a recording of that to play in the weekly tv show. Over the years Toppop has made a fine collection of videoperformances that way. It was seldom done that artists sung live. When you look on youtube at the toppop page, you will find the whole collection of all artists over the years. Toppop, most of the starrs have been there.
She is my absolute favorite female singer, and I am glad you, as a younger generation representative, appreciate her so much. I am worried that most younger people will never hear and thus appreciate her, which would be a shame! Thanks for reviewing it!
If this delivery is live and so faultlessly perfect then imagine the studio recording. It's perfect plus.I'm a '70s/'80s grown up kid. Those times you could hear REAL voices, non autotuned fake wired vocals. You had to prove yourself with a real voice!I feel lucky having a real time taste of voices such as Kareen's Olivia's not to mention The blending of Abba's Agnetha's and Frida's unpreceded heavenly harmonies.
This song was the hit that almost got away. "Top of the World" was intended to be just an album track. Originally recorded for the 1972 LP, "A Song for You," the song received enthusiastic responses from concert audiences, even though it had not been tapped for single release. Meanwhile, country artist Lynn Anderson cut her own version of the song, which went to #2 on the U.S. country chart in 1973. Realizing the hit potential of their song, the Carpenters recorded their single version in 1973, with a fresh lead vocal by Karen, and released it in advance of their hits compilation, "The Singles: 1969 - 1973." Both the single and the compilation album rode the charts to #1 just weeks apart, with "Top of the World" reaching the top of the Billboard Hot 100 on December 1, 1973, and holding that position for two weeks. The "Singles" LP reached the top of the albums chart on January 5, 1974, the only Carpenters album to hit #1 on the Billboard chart.
Kareen from The Carpenters.Admitedly the definition of 'Perfect'!A unique contralto vocalist. You gotta try also her beloved friend Olivia Newton John.A soprano pitch perfect songbird, and the most popular '70s teenage female soloist in pop music culture that finally went massive after the 'Grease' movie.
Great reaction Chase! Yup, it will ALWAYS be perfect. You can have favorites, but none will be lesser. Just great, Great and GREAT. No other choices. I’m going to recommend one in the GREAT category. (I may have before?) It’s a live performance from 1970. It was on The Ed Sullivan Show and it was a Veterans Day special. They performed The Bacharach/David Medley, and Karen is drumming while singing, nothing can be better. I’m going to use keywords as links seem to be trouble. Enjoy! Karen Carpenter and Ella Fitzgerald made a medley for a TV special in 1980. They largely cover classics from Ella's prime time, proving that Karen can sing any decade of song beautifully, whether it's of her time or before it.
Dtto:in 1974 they also tour in Japan and if you could watch their song " Sing (Sing a Song) live with children, I am sure you will love it.. also do HIDEAWAY
You must react to their song "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft." The song is quite different than any of the others but is excellent with a great arrangement by Richard Carpenter. The song came out during the beginning of the Star Wars era and is a must for UFO enthusiasts.
Karen was still healthy here. Unfortunately, the next year her anorexia kicked in big time. She was so beautiful. I saw them live many times and they were always wonderful.
I wish others who react to this particular song from them would choose this one - yes she sounds vocally perfect no matter what period in time it is that she sings it but the later appearances after 74 that are on UA-cam of her doing this one are obviously where alas is visible to see of the anorexia taking hold. Here from this early performance of the song around earlier part of the 70's around this time certainly up to 74 she was still in her prime of health, it is just so sad that she never realised how stunning she was and that from mid 70's onwards as the years went on the damage the anorexia did.

So so well said my friend, what else can I say about Karen's voice other than what you said here❤❤❤❤❤❤.

This is one of my favorite Carpenters songs. Karen looks fantastic in this video.
Another great song. Of course, they didn’t produce any bad songs. ❤
My favorite Carpenters song of all time. Takes me back to 1974. Drivers Ed. This song played in the radio every hour for weeks!

One of the carpenters most underplayed tracks
With karens voice wow❤❤
WOW IS RIGHT !
@@Nighthawk-mc6zd … and Richard said “John, that’s a song!” It was!
I love her low notes in this song, she used to say “the money is in the basement”, her contralto register made her voice unique
We knew even then she was special. Thanks Chase for your happy and heartfelt reactions. This was special.
THANK YOU !
Always amazing!!!!!!😊😊😊😊 you always find yourself mesmerized.
There were time during that song when you were watching and listening Chase and what I was watching was a man falling in love.
