Most of my bikes didn't or don't have abs but despite that I'm riding for the past 33 years I'm telling you bro, abs is a life saver. 👍

What I learned after installing and riding my quick shifter:

Hitting that perfect shift every time is hard. It’s even harder if you’re going fast on twisty roads. One shift or another will not be quite on point and in the long term, that’s bad for your gearbox

I used to agree until I got one.. they’re worth every penny, very fun to have :)
QS: Totally unnecessary, but they can be fun and the sounds are satisfying.
ABS: Aside from making maintenance a little more involved there's no downsides. Even if it's an optional extra - if it saves your bacon even one time its paid for itself.
Not for track use, its very necessary
Electronics are important. Electronics don't make you a bad rider neither does it lessen the fun. Electronics doesn't take your control when you are in control. It only kicks in when you are not in control and headed for a disaster. It will take controls from you then and stabilise the situation and then give it back to you for you to enjoy the rest of the ride.
It definitely depends on the bike and the quality of the shifter mechanism. I clutchless up shift all the time, but I use my clutch for downshifting just to decrease the margin of error
You also don’t NEED a motorcycle and one could argue how they’re a waste of money......yet here we are, buy what you want and can afford to buy 🤷🏽♂️

"You can do this in your car".
Non-sequential gearbox left the chat
I ride an R6 at its peak and currently don't have a quickshifter, but the reason why you actually want a QS is:
- physically and practically you can't reduce throttle+shift+restore throttle as quick as the electronics can simply cut-off of the spark -> you can maintain the WOT
- when you make a mistake with the throttle, you'll damage stuff
- auto rev-match is possible with quickshifters -> decreases lap-times due to quicker corner-entry
I actually much prefer QS for regular road riding over spirited riding. You still have to understand the mechanics of shifting to use a QS; I don't really know what bad habits it can cause.
If it’s an OEM setup no worries. Just be positive on the lever and keep the throttle open
The purpose of quick shifters is for racing applications mostly.
There's no release of the throttle at all while shifting with a quick shifter.
To add to that, the majority of aftermarket quickshifters have various things you can adjust, which is useful for racing. Not so much for the road but they’re definitely fun to use and sound neat
That's why i only use a qs on my track bike. If a qs comes standard on my next roadbike so be it

On the clutch part, 100% agree..
My father has an old 2stroke motorcycle and he always tell me that you don't have to engage the clutch that much and if for some reason your front and rear breaks don't work, you can do an "engine break".. shift to a lower gear (do not rev match) and it will decelerate your speed..
On the ABS and any other electronics part.. I am kinda glad these are now a standard equipment in any motorcycle
The older ones are RAW and "somewhat" dangerous for any beginner riders.. but that in itself is the beauty of older bikes.
I love my quick shifter it's just so fun to use and I never have to go off the throttle. The "quick shifting" without a quick shifter is also ok I did it on my 125 but mostly for convenience and not fun. Quick shifter over no quick shifter everyday!

Quickshifters are for lazy riders the ones that dont make it far as a rider, makes the same mistakes 5x
My buddies thought I was joking when I told them I only use my clutch to leave a light. Been riding like this for forever lol.
Incroyable.
Under full throttle and more aggressive throttle application, the fuel/spark interrupter/quick shifter can be an essential piece of the electronics package. Where the QS is designed to work is under heavy throttle applications and under aggressive deacceleration events where every advantage counts, racing or for personal enjoyment. Also, the QS reduces possible damage over time compared to non quickshifter use under w.o.t. and will prolong/extend some driveline parts.
The quickshifter component is not intended/designed for casual riding and laziness. Using the latest develooed quickshifter in addition to the propper ecu electronics to take advantage of the QS can reduce acceleration times more than .10 sec 0-60/1/4 mile.
Many bolt-on car/motorcycle performance parts alone can cost into the neighborhood of $500 to 1,500 OMor more just to reduce .10 - .30 sec in 1/4 mile. In some applications when hp gains have reached the upper limits without major internal modifications, gaining more hp/reducing times can cost many $1,000s.
Quick shifters can preserve your clutch for longer than without one, because it is electronically controlled, you get smoother shifts every time and dont risk dropping the clutch incorrectly.
The explosive back fires I get from my quick shifter at full throttle are well worth it. 🤣

I race a 2015 R1 and for me a quick shifter is a huge deal. Those tens you spoke of in the video mean the world of course and also going into corners being able to downshifted faster through the gears without having to pull the clutch in and blip the throttle allows for the bike to continue engine breaking which isn’t the case without one. The feature is so helpful for beginners who are confused of the gear shifting process
The point of the quick shifter isn't for shifting without clutch, it cuts spark and/or fuel for a split second to let the transmission move through gears smoothly while allowing for full throttle clutch-less upshifts with no interruption to power delivery. Think of it like when you quickly chop the throttle and get right back on it when you shift, it is performing that motion for you in a fraction of a second. More beneficial on the racetrack, sure, but still fun as hell on the street too.
Yea, and it does that *so you don’t have to use the clutch,* that’s literally the entire point lmao

Bro you’re smashing your gears ⚙️
This works the same as kick shifters, basically a Kcks works by cutting engine fuel supply and due to that the tork. That allows the gearbox syncro to introduce the gear cause there's no tork and therefore no load on it. On an EFI bike, when you cut throttle you are also cutting fuel supply to the engine so basically works the same.
Notice that if you do it manually you gotta make It at the correct rpm and be precise, specially downshifting.
On carburetor bikes, It also can be done, but it's more difficult specially on downshifts and less smooth, depending of the motorcycle. Just because a carburetor, even when you let the throttle off, is always introducing a small amount of fuel into the combustión chamber.
that weather give me childhood dreams and old memories
Gearbox sales will have a massive boost with this advice.
I 100% agree with what you said except for ABS, ABS has saved my life twice before cause when you’re going 100-150mph down the highway, it’s hard to focus on how much brake force you’re applying when you’re about to hit something.
You don’t NEED a QS and clutchless up shifting does no damage to your bike, but to get a clean shift you still need to back off the throttle just a bit to unload the clutch. To shift under load or to downshift without a clutch, a QS is pretty nice. Lots of things on bikes these days you don’t need, but the latest tech is pretty cool.
I like teaching with the assists on because then more attention is focused on lane positioning, teaching counter steering, vigilance and the like. That being said the bike I usually have new riders grab is an MT03 that doesn’t have a quick shifter. On my MT09SP I find I only use the quick shifter when I have to all of a sudden keep up with my friend on the MT10.
Nice example of clutchless shifting. I learned this back in my teen years on my suszuki pe 175.
I agree 100 percent. I’ve spent my whole life driving cars and riding bikes on and off road with no aids. Sliding the tail on the power or the brakes doesn’t scare me. And just yesterday I was pulling up to my buddies house and I clicked down 4,3,2 really quick and revmatched it, and he asked if I installed a quick shifter or did it clutch less, the answer was a double no, just finesse
I totally agree. ABS is nice, but I've never had it on any of the bikes I've owned. It's just a raw riding experience between you and your machine... for those who want it though, go for it. Ride your own ride😎
I agree with all the things you said apart from the ABS, it saved my life. You don't ask for accidents to happen, they just do happen.
Just bought a 2022 MT-09 SP. mainly for the cruise control. But it’s nice to have the rest of the stuff
You're 100% correct, though for anyone inexperienced I'd suggest going 1st > 2nd with the clutch
While it's not great to downshift like that I totally agree. People complain too much about some new bikes that don't have them, now even auto rev matching...why??
This is call floating gears. It something that truck drivers will do and it involves controlling the throttle and this makes it so you don’t need the clutch to shift
Braaap… Braaaaaap… Braaaaaaaap!!! The sound of my people
ABS is essential, when you do emergency braking to avoid collision, you'll get panic and just hit the brake as hard as you can
I agree on most part! Abs works better on cars. Bikes it tend to delay the stopping process. Situation may vary. Especially off-road? It's best not to have abs. To ride a bike skills are priority. Not really sure about traction control on certain bikes mean. Some like their bike simple to fix and easy to ride. Too much electronic blocks the fun.
The sound on that bike though 🔥
I like it. I own a 2016 Ducati Scrambler and I’m proud of it. Only thing it has is ABS (no cornering)
I have abs on my bike so that I can learn how to push to the edge of braking without fearing a highside if I lock a wheel. Abs doesn't do it for you, it just makes it so when you brake too hard you don't lose all of your traction. You can learn how to get right to the edge of breaking traction by Lear ING to brake right up to the instant before abs engages, which provides positive feedback saying "you fucked up" by vibrating the brake lever instead of sliding the rear or front
Abs is great. For those that panic. Been riding for 40 years and many panic moments. Learn to control your panic. Gradually braking. Exit plan I still don’t have a bike with abs . Main thing if you feel you need it have it . It’s all about being safe and having fun. Two wheels down all my friends
My opinion is that you're doing it properly, and the shifter will do it also properly. The difference is that the machine is going to make it perfectly all the times while you will fail few times. But this few fails can seriously damage the transmission.
All sports bike those only for top end performance,
the gear ratios will be shoulder to neck distance make.So easy to shift without quick shifter when we upshift the Gear only the RPM is to manage. But in case of Down shift Quickshifter will be usefull in Low CC bikes, when coming into Litre class bikes or near too.it has the power to manage the counter force when we shift down.(non Quick shifter bikes).
Exactly what I did with my dirt bike. I taught myself how to ride a dirt bike with the knowledge of driving stick cars. Felt pretty natural. I almost never use the clutch on my bike, except for starting ofc.
When you downshift on your dirt bike do blip throttle before shifting or after?
@@bunnyman6321 maybe like a millisecond before the shift.
@YotaLC-wo6qf Thank you! Do you downshift then brake or brake then downshift?
Wait, noob here... I don't need to use the clutch if I have a quick shifter? So it's automatic then?
i don’t understand either 😭
It’s so nice in the canyons. And abs is absolutely a life saver.
If new rider, better with AbS and electronics because this would help a lot in building confidence. Disable it one by one if you want to fully experience your bike capabilities. This will be bad habits if you relying on the assist and trying to change for new or different bike but with no ABS features. You need to learn and get used with the feels. This would effect your confidence and ruin your experience.
But if you don't have much money, you can buy them without extra electronics accessories. You can focus on buying a proper tire and gears. Learn and build your muscle memory. Become good riders. It takes time but definitely worth it.👍🏼👍🏼
The fz07 sounds so terrific 😍🤌
Hang on, I agree 100%! I am a new rider, a 'noob' and not ashamed to say it. I have a lot to learn and my experience is at the moment very limited, but I know it's true what you say. I watch and listen to Greg (Motojitsu) and he has said very similar. It's you, your skill, not the technology. If you have the skill you can ride any type of motorcycle because you know how to handle your throttle, clutch and brakes - the front brake is King.
