- Ever wondered how to use your Garmin watch for intervals? This video will help you set up a workout on your Garmin Watch via the Garmin connect app. You can then download these onto your watch and head out for your session.
This session was in preparation for the Vitality 10,000 I took part in. Shorter intervals are going to help me sharpen up but without it being too intense!
Let me know if you find this useful!

Years looking for something like this, finally !!!
This was so helpful! THANK YOU !!!
Yay thank you 😊 I have had my 235 for about 3 years now and have only just found this really useful feature... Thank you 👍 from a real technophobe 😊
Thank you so much. that was really useful. I had absolutely no idea my Garmin 235 could do so much.
Thanks for this…only had my epix for a year now and just doing basic runs where I am starting and stopping the runs… Now i can record interval training!!!
This was so helpful thank you. I've been struggling to follow other tutorials but this was so easy.
Karen Cresswell thank you so much :) glad you found it easy and useful!
So useful Katie. Had my Fenix for over a year now....still hadn't managed multi-activity interval training though. Thanks a lot!
Thank you so much. There must be more than million things I don't know about my watch. This is such a useful tip.
Sattawut Wongwiangjunt you’re more than welcome 😊
Big thanks Katie, i forgot a step in the app without your video (select the watch to sync to; was expecting it figured that out)
Thanks!!!!!
You're welcome!
That's a great watch! :) Thanks for tutorial.
Thanks so much, this is brilliant! I'm all set up :)
Thanks so much!!! You are a blessing ❤❤❤
This info is priceless, hard to find after several searches!
Thank you! Please let us know if there's anything else you've looked for :)
Awesome glad you did this vid 👍very handy just started to load my sessions up
You're welcome!
awesome....thanks!!! I have had garmins forever...you made it very easy to follow!!!!!! and useful
You're very welcome!
Yes! You have no idea how much I've fettled around with different IQ store Apps, only to end up using the Run/Walk alert for previous interval runs. There is a lot of functionality in the Garmin software, but it is about as user friendly as a honey badger.
Thanks for doing the work Garmin can't be bothered to do :)
You're welcome!
This was so helpful!
Thank you! That was clear and informative.
You're so welcome!
Thank you, I didn’t know you could do this. This is really useful.
You prolly dont care but if you are stoned like me atm then you can watch all the new series on InstaFlixxer. Have been binge watching with my gf lately =)
@Ramon Bradley definitely, I have been watching on instaflixxer for years myself :)
Perfect, very helpful thank you!
Glad it helped!
I spent a couple of weeks moaning at my watch (735( about the overly basic interval capabilities and writing things on my arm. Thought "it can't be this hard", Googled it and found your video. Thank you so much. Why on earth do Garmin not tell you about setting it up on the App on their help pages?
Thankyou very much, it really helped
Useful advice on how to build custom workouts.
Thanks Katie. Didn’t have a clue how to do this.
Pleasure!
So helpful
So glad!
Helpful thanks didn't know the steps could be dragged . Had no idea
You're welcome!!
Note in settings - user settings - measurement units you can change to "metric" and set intervals in steps of 10 meters. :)
Amazing! Thanks!
You’re welcome ☺️
This was really helpful. I was able to set up an interval workout on the app but then couldn't export it to my watch. I have a Vivoactive HR which I'm guessing doesn't have that feature - does anyone know?
so hopefully, thanks
Thank You!
Thank you 🙏
You’re welcome 😊
this is absolutely AWESOME..!! Thank you so much for this great video, I just set up my workout..!! yessss..!! :)
You're welcome :)
How do you find your workout that you create ? I cant find mine
@@delrichardson8365 in the right up corner on your phone there is a cell phone icon click there to transfer your workout from cell to watch, both must be close to each other and watch must to be on
@@claudiadeavila5768 yeah I tried this also but stil cannot find it. I have the venu sq. I press the top button and my activity come up such as running biking etc. When I set up the workout on the app it was in custom
@@delrichardson8365 once you transfer it to your watch go to your watch menu/training/my workouts and you will see a list with all your w/o
Can you listen to music while doing these intervals? Will it beep or vibrate when it is time to do the next step? I'm considering getting the forefunner 245 music or vivoactive 4s. Not sure if they have this app also.
Thank you👏
You're welcome 😊
That’s brillant
Thx!
just subscribed
Does this work for Vivoactive 3 music?
Thank you! Couldn't find this (pretty basic) information anywhere else. No workouts were showing on my new (used) Vivoactive 3, and the Garmin manual/website sure wasn't helpful!
Hi thank you for this. With Jeff gallows drills, accelerate and glide how should I be reading the "watch "prompts? Do I press the lap key or not?
No I would just have a 'warm up' period for any drills.
Hi- can you tell me how this looks on Strava? Does it sync and display as a training session? i.e does it look different to a regular run? Thanks 😊
No, unfortunately not, it will show the segment analysis but will look like a normal run. You can get the data back in the Garmin Connect App though :)
So I am new new to running interval training snd I only do 90 seconds running and 50 seconds walking. My heart rate is in the correct zone with this on the treadmill. I'd like to take it outside. Can the Garmin monitor my heart rate by this? Or how can I get like a ⏰ for heart rate to run till heart rate is 160 and walk based on heart rate down to start again at 120? Does this make sense and am I asking for the impossible?
Great video! Were you able to do this in the 35?
Cheers thanks!
Unfortunately not. The 35 has intervals features but you can't add advanced intervals from the app.
You mention that you had the forerunner 30. Can you set intervals for that one or it doesn't have that feature?
I don't remember it having interval features!
Awesome ! However I have just created a workout and cannot find the one I've created. I've sync phone to app aswel
Where are you looking Del?
Great video, quick question. After the workout and it syncs to the phone the Garmin Connect App doesn’t seem to pick up the steps? for example I had a warm and cool down which it didn’t pick up on and each step was called a run even though I changed some steps to recoveries etc. Help!
Mags MacRae if you go into the activity on garmin connect. The third button across there’s an arrow, click on that and all the steps should be there 😊
Thanks for repose. Yes, what I mean is when I go into that tab 3 along, it’s lists my entire workout as run where I thought it would list each step for example. Run 2mins, recover 1min etc. It’s just says Run 2 mins, run 1min even though that’s not how the workout is set up. Hope this makes sense?
Hey, I have Vivoactive Music 3 and I did add the training intervals some time ago. It is an awesome option but the biggest problem is ... you can't turn it off. Now I want to go just for a run, no training simple run and every time the watch is showing me the interval training. I did unistall the run app and install again, checked all the setings and it still doesn't work. I want to enjoy simple run with the viewing the time, pace, distance but no - garmin shows only the interval training now every time. Anybody know how to turn it off and go back to simple "run" view?
Did you fixed the problem? :)
Bought venu sq few days back. Noticed the red exclamation mark at the side of the calories tab. Went for a walk as instructed twice and still it showed “need more data to improve accuracy”. Do I really need to run? Or will the soft reboot help in any way? Cheers!
Not entirely sure but you probably just need to give it a few days if it’s new!
Yes!!!!
I have the same watch and it’s great best investment ever. What is the moon icon to the left of the battery symbol? I have never seen that on my watch
It's do not disturb, I do it so that my watch don't vibrate every 30 seconds with a notification!!
Clean Coach Katie Thank you just found the setting
I realize this is old but I'm using a Garmin coach it has me doing laps it says to press lap button will the work out automatically come onto my watch with it being set on the app for me
I have a question. Can I listen to music with my android phone wearing a headset and hear interval prompts from a Garmin watch. I don't own one yet. I'm using it to learn to run type of program. So I would walk for a bit then get an alarm to run for a while and do this in sets. Thanks!
Curious question here. Is there a reason you're using .12 miles instead of switching miles to meters or kilometers? (Right side while you were setting up distance)
Under Construction my watch is set up in miles so I had to do it this way :) and just converted 200m to miles.
@@TheRunningHubCommunity I noticed @ 4:37 you could have chosen between mi/km/m. That's the reason I was curious about your decision to go with .12 miles.
My watch is in miles so by the time it would have converted to my watch it would be 0.12 again
Clean Coach Katie Oh I see! I didn’t realize that. I just tried it and you’re right! So the watch overrides the app! Crazy. Now I know. Thank you! (Just got my watch 3-4 days ago)
How do I send this to my watch. And where is it on my watch?
From the Garmin App and then it's in your run settings.
Hi i'm using Garmin Forerunner 245 and did evething in the app and when i press the button for uploading the workout it tells me that after syncing it will be on the watch and when the sync is complete i can't find it into workouts. What might i have been doing wrong?
di44ito select the run option and find the workouts through there.
@@TheRunningHubCommunity thank you. I found it.
Can this be done with a forerunner 35?
No, unfortunately not for the Forerunner 35. You can use the lap key though to measure your pace during a run which is a similar feature. You just have to keep an eye on the time/distance yourself.
Does this work for the Garmin Venu sq (not sq2)?
Yes I believe it does :)
Anyone know how to do this with a Samsung phone? I have an S22 plus and the Garmin software is different than this - it won't let me edit "run".
Dang I can’t sync a workout to my Garmin s40 aproach
Is it possible with the garmin230?
I'm not sure, best thing to do is to check Garmin's website or searching on Google, not all watches have this feature.
@@TheRunningHubCommunity Thankyou so much for this! 'm shopping for a Garmin and there are so many features and options. What is this specific feature called? Interval Training?
or 'CUSTOMIZABLE ACTIVITY PROFILES'?
or 'ADVANCED WORKOUTS'? maybe?
Easiest set of directions to follow. Got me set up in a flash. Other videos over complicated the setup and I simply lost interest.
Glad it helped!
I don’t think you had to add 6 times repeat should do the same
No sure how to set up workout
How can I help?
don't understand anything
