I had a bad knee injury and MBT shoes were the only shows I could walk in doing 16 hr shifts as an RN and needed something they worked otherwise I couldn't work
Really great info I'm recovering from ankle fusion surgery the doctor suggested rocker sole shoes with a high index but having trouble finding any do you have any suggestions
Here is some detailed information on rocker soled shoes in general and some suggestions on models that come with rockers. www.footankle.com/shoe-therapy/rocker-bottom-sole-shoes/ Hope that helps!
I have a question about MBT rocker shoes. The company does not provide heel-to-toe drop measurements for their shoes. I have Insertional Achilles Tendonitis as well as outer foot pain. I've been wearing New Balance 990v5 shoes because they have a 12mm drop. I would like to try a rocker bottom shoe to hopefully help with my outer foot pain, but they all have very low heel to toe drop measurements. I tried Hoka, too low, 4mm. I wanted to try the MBT shoes but have no idea what the heel drop is. Do you have any idea what the drop is in MBT shoes? I was looking at the MBT 1997. If it's too low that might be too drastic for my IAT since I'm currently wearing a 12mm drop shoe. Would appreciate any information you can give me. Thanks very much.
I find with carbon footplate inserts or spring steel shanks added to shoes will alleviate most pain by itself, without the need for rocker sole. Needless to say, the shoe itself must be appropriate beforehand. This can also be very effective for treatment of Neuroma.
I think they are a good idea to try, but I have had issues with them taking up room in the shoe which can make the shoe tighter and that tightness can in some situations make the problem worse. So certainly consider it but if pain increases then take out the plate. For those of you who are not familiar with the plates you can see one here: www.ourdoctorstore.com/footankle/dr-jill-s-turf-toe-insoles-full-steel/623/
Hi, are rocker soles good if you have fallen arches? I get pain in my arches, big toe joint and heels and tend to pretty much live in crocs as they are the most comfortable to wear - however not so warm or waterproof in the winter :D Many thanks, Kate
Rocker soles are not nesicerrily good for fallen arches, but they can help some of the problems associated with fallen arches such as heel pain and big toe joint pain. So it sounds like they might be a good choice for you. Be sure to use them with good arch supports, however. Here is our list of recommended arch supports: www.footankle.com/orthotics/off-the-shelf/
My issue is that I have a bunionettes. I have been rejected as a candidate for surgery, as the displacement is minimal (but the pain is still significant!). I'm tired of being inactive, I need to get back to being active. I'm happy with Dansko shoes for work, but I'm lost on what shoe would be best for the gym. Any suggestions?
Here is some detailed info on bunionettes. If you still have questions after reading it let me know: www.footankle.com/self-care/tailors-bunion-home-treatment/
+Mine Rocker sole shoes are one of our primary treatments for arthritis in the midfoot - including the CC joint. They should be used in combination with VERY close fitting orthotic devices designed specifically to decrease CC joint motion. You can find a list of our recommended rocker sole shoes on this page: www.footankle.com/shoe-therapy/rocker-bottom-sole-shoes/ And on this page you can find more information on treating midfoot arthritis, including some good over the counter arch supports. Custom orthotics (if made correctly) work better, but these over-the-counter arch supports are a good way to start. Check out the self-treatment section near the bottom of the page. www.footankle.com/injuries-foot-ankle/pain-top-foot/
Hello, thanks for the video. I came here looking for MBT reviews... Well, I got angry after reading some comments on these shoes by specialists who said it was basically nonsense... Those shoes make my backpain disappear, even healed a lower back blockage, severe one, walked like a chimpanzee, couldn´t straighten up... After 4 hours wearing MBT it was gone... When I wear them my posture is healthy, and I can wear them all day long walking without ANY discomfort. Not as with the usual type- you can´t wait for coming home taking your shoes off no matter how expensive and well made they are... Sorry. Just that your review was the first one which seems to be taking account of some facts and the comfort of the "patient". Thank you :)
Glad to hear the shoes have helped you. MBTs and other similar shoes have rocker soles and rocker soles have been around for 100 years as a way to treat foot and lower extremity complaints. What many of us did not like about MBT was that they made false claims about, among other things, the ability of their shoes to strengthen the legs. My opinion (and the opinion of many lower extremity specialists) is that MBT rocker shoes may be beneficial for many people but that they lied in their advertising to sell more shoes.
Well, they certainly shape legs and the bottom and since they change the posture it has good influence on other body parts, too. When I wear them it really shows. And I didnt buy them for that. I just had back pains. Just some people think they will shape their legs while sitting in front of the TV eating pizza. The trouble is they emphasized that maybe too much in adverts the outcome being I am having problems buying ones. :) If I could I would wear only MBTs :). The only thing- the spine straightens up when I wear them.. when not- I become a proper hunchback again, the muscles on the back need exercise.. Thank you for listening to me and answering, have a nice day :)
No, that's incorrect. MBT and other similar shoes do nothing to shape legs. That is just marketing hype. They have no more benefit on other body parts than any other shoe. I'm glad they work for you, but don't believe their marketing about helping to shape or tone legs. They are just a shoe with a rocker sole and any rocker sole can help some foot and ankle problems and have no effect on others.
And where did you get the info it´s incorrect? I am not trying to argue I am just curious. :) Mine is just experience.. Because it just makes the difference. It´s a completely different posture in MBTs, at least for me and my crooked spine.. When wearing these shoes I stand differently so it changes which parts of body "work" and ultimately the shape. Also you do get more exercise.. Eg. when walking somewhere you thought it was flat- and suddenly you realise it´s not because in MBTs you feel the rise much more.. Do you wear them? Have you? For more than a day? BTW- I have 2 pairs of rocking shoes of other brand and they are not very good and they more or less don´t work just a bit more comfortable than standard shoes.
You can't prove a negative. MBT, Reebok and Sketchers made these claims with no evidence whatsoever. They were forced to eventually retract the claims as shown to be false advertising. I'm not saying they are bad shoes, and they can help some people but they do not tone or shape the legs.
Why in the heck would you encourage people to keep wearing high heels when they have this condition? It's putting so much more pressure on the MTPs. Awful for anyone with toe arthritis.
I'm not encouraging the use of high heels. I'm saying that if you are going to wear high heels (and many will regardless of what I or anyone else recommends), then, for many people, these are the best types of high heels for this particular condition.

Really useful explanation, ta.
Return the skechers shape ups 😢. Those shoes were the best for nurses.

If you have plantar fasciitis, do you still need to use your arch support orthotic in the rocker bottom shoe? Thanks
The two features work independently. Try it with and without and go with whatever feels better

Which Hokas are those?

Are there rocker bottom golf shoes?
Not that I know of, but you could use a rocker walking shoe for golf instead.
Would these be a good choice for someone who suffers from arthritis in the calcaneal cuboid joint?

Why isn’t there normal looking shoes for men with this condition

@@Footankle I see. Yes, I supposed some will keep wearing them. I had to get rid of all of my heels b/c they hurt too much.
