Marcus Smart was the Heart and Soul of the Celtics. He continued to improve in shooting every year. He set the defensive intensity for the whole team. He always stepped up when Tatum and Brown disappeared, especially in the playoffs. Smart should have played his entire career in green. Tatum and Brown are the reason why they can't get over the hump. Very sad to see Smart go. He was the best player to wear green since Garnett. Celtics just got very soft just like that.

I am all Celtics fan. Perk, you are wrong and you should have seen that coming when they got White and then Brog. Smart was great but a huge Locker room problem! Equally, he prohibited the growth of the Celtics going way back to when they had Kyrie & even Walker. He wanted to always be that third man in the "Superstar" role and though he prove to be a gritty prominent part of the team, the actual leadership role belongs to the Superstars and smart was not a Superstar so he then forced the leadership role.
That role conflicted with a few players including Al Halford when he came back! It also put himself in a position to force the starting guard position where he did not belong and it cost us champions.
Porzingis is the third Superstar threat that the C's need in their rotation and if you ask me, I would say RW the 3rd was always that third man threat anyway, so now we actually have a 4 Man threat and with White playing guard , that makes a 5 Man threat, specially when it comes to defending Yanis & Embid or anyone else trying to penetrate the hole! I say SMART move on Brad's behalf! That's the right headline!
