I made a slight editing mistake: the date between 15:17 and 18:10 should read the 23rd of June 1942. Sorry about that. Timestamps are in the description. I also posted this earlier, but I’ll copy it here in case you didn’t see the post: In my opinion, the video has turned out okay all things considered. Obviously, it would have been much better had I not been let down… And I’ll let you guys decide if the lack of animations is tolerable. I did end up adding in one or two (as well as many camera movements) just because it was necessary to tell the story. But I just wanted to say a big thank you to all of you who commented in the recent video (as well as the 20 or so of you who became Patreons in response). Many of you were saying you could wait for the video, and that I should enjoy my Christmas with my friends and family. However I personally couldn’t wait any longer. Someone said: “If he is anything like me it will be more painful to see the family and friends knowing I could be sorting it out. Not saying it’s a good thing but I think I get why he’s doing it.” And that’s precisely it. I did work Christmas Day, but it was actually enjoyable for me because I was working towards fixing the problem that had been hanging over me for many weeks. Imagine training for months to run a race, only to fall at the final hurdle because someone else tripped you up. You put in all that work, all that effort, and everyone turned up waiting for you to finish, and you didn’t finish. A complete waste. There’s no way I could even think of anything else until I’d gotten back up and ran that race again, finishing it this time, as outright failure is not an option for me. I don’t know how else to explain it, but the last thing I want is to be on my deathbed knowing I could have done more with my life, but didn’t. Time is the only thing you cannot get back. And that’s the worst thing about this whole situation - this video could have been out months ago. I could be part-way through the animation process for the First Battle of El Alamein by now. I’m massively behind my potential, and that’s time I will never get back. That's what's so frustrating.
This axis campaign reveals an operational flaw in Wehrmact thinking. In USSR and North Africa, the Axis offensives contnued to culmination. Culmination, btw, is bad and deserves its own video.
I will watch the video today, and give some feedback on the "new style", but TIK, now with the video finally done, plz at least take New Year's Eve off, if anything else, so you cool down and be fresh for the work in 2025
The lack of fancier animations wasn't really noticeable, for me at least. You were right in your earlier video - we're here for the history, not flashy animations. If you're unable/unwilling to find a replacement editor, I don't think there's any issue with future Battlestorms having a simpler format.
Dear tik, my grandad was a desert rat. He's been dead 15 years and I miss him so, yet watching this i feel very close to him. If you find a captain targett, that's him. Thank you for your dedication and commitment and I wish you a very happy and prosperous new year for you....

I agree with @4nthr4x As they say, 'content is King" I think 'bells and whistles' animations are over-rated and tend to a dumbing down of war to the level of video games. I appreciated this presentation and the drawing from multiple sources before a rational discussion of causes of events and why certain decisions were taken.
Honestly, you're so good and engaging in telling this, I was well beyond half way point when I suddenly remembered this is the one where there's no animations. Conclusion: your former animator/editor/whatever they were, was useless. You got this. This video is 100% as good as the previous ones. Your attention to detail and your performance, the quality of your delivery, is what makes these videos excellent. I suspect next to nobody misses the extra fluff. Keep up the quality research and thanks for making these so interesting!
@@IlmariHiltunen Definitely agree. It's noticeable when TIK is showing a large map and talking about some specific unit on the map. In older videos where would be some animation to indicate which specific unit was being discussed, while in this one you need to read through the markings and figure it out yourself. The lack of movement animation is less of a problem to me. Given the amount of time TIK had though, and the fact this video is nearly 2 hours long, it's still a notable accomplishment.

excellent! it shows several things: that Rommel was the greatest tactician, that he could not win, could not reach Alexandria in 1942, finally that if OKW had given him in June half of the tanks and men that in November were sent to Tunisia, he might have won at El Alamein even if that would not have changed the course of the war

Up to this point, the whole of the North African campaign can be summed up with constant missed opportunities by the British, which gifted Rommel's reckless tenacity with fortunate victories. I can't wait for the next installment, and to gain a deeper understanding of how the tide eventually turned. You did very well on this TIK in spite of the circumstances. Thank you for your efforts.
My uncle was a cook in the NZ Divisional HQ at Minqar Qaim. He recalled the night attack or breakout as a 'wild ride.' He said it was the first time he actually loaded his rifle and prepared to use it. Only problem was he could not tell friend from foe in the dark so never fired a shot. I had read many of the histories about Mersa Matruh and your presentation and explanations made more sense to me about the whole confusing battle. Gave the lie to the oft repeated myth that the NZ div was 1, surrounded and 2, surrounded by vastly superior enemy forces.
The 150th Brigade, 50th Northumbrian Division, my grandfather, said that moral had collapsed before the battle of Gazala. Never the less, they fought like Lions until they were overrun. As you asked on the previous video, I will give you my opinion on the animations: as long as the map keeps as detailed as it is, with the units symols and names, with borders and terrain it is still splendid. What a fantastic video. Waiting for the next one!
Great video TIK! The animations were not missed.
I usually just listen while im working, so damn the editor!
Thank you Tik.
Thanks TIK, remarkable how depleted both sides were. Rommel taking it to the limit again.
Thanks man i have no problem with these animations! I was Washington for it and i love it ! Thanks again !
Excellent work TIK, thank you for your hard work.
I think this was a great video TIK. The meat (information, presentation of the historical account) makes the content, not fancy graphics or animations, IMO. Well done.
I think you did a great job TIK. The info is great and with a lot of depth. So I didn't worry about the lack of animation. Quite glad you managed to do this before 2025. Thanks for all the effort.
I'm here to give you a big hug and congratulations Tik on getting this video done. Hope you know can get at least some more respite.
As you asked on the previous video, I will give you my opinion on the animations: as long as the map keeps as detailed as it is, with the units symols and names, with borders and terrain it is still splendid. No information is lost.
Your narration and the visual cues are all that is needed to not only have a pleasent experience, as well as mantaining the learning process
Wish you a prosperous 2025
