I'm reading the comments and so many people are commenting about how Katie is the same as Lee Hi. I disagree. I'm sorry, I like Lee Hi, but I have to say that I strongly believe that Katie is better at singing r&b/soul.

Katie has a better understanding and feel of R&B/Soul since she grew up in that environment, you can hear it in her inflections it sounds completely genuine and that's who Katie is, Lee HaYi while good just sounds like she's copying those inflections she heard from other artists. Soul isn't something that is taught, you have to grow up in it and Katie definitely grew up in it living in New Jersey.
well, i disagree.. both have amazing soul voice, and for lee hi.. even she's not grow up in "soul" environment like u say, she has talent for it, and she has prooved it. And u can see in all her performances.. not anybody can singing like her.
i beg to differ. Both Lee Hi and Katie are great singers. Both also have very distinctive voices, but they have similar vocal color. That's why people always compare these two. Katie no doubt is a very soulful singer, but so does Lee Hi. She improved a lot. You can check her 'Let It Be' cover, you can feel her emotion yet her voice is still stable and powerful. Her vocal range is also as wide as Katie. So IMO both are great singers with soulful voices.
I don't think it's about where they grew up but more about how much effort they put into the music. Both are no doubt extremely talented singers. Katie might have a slight advantage over Lee with her perfect English pronunciation when singing English songs.

Totally agree with you bananakaa ..I have said this on other post..I love Katie version of this song , she sang a lot better than Lee Hi...Katie has more soul & put a lot into this song!! Yes, Katie has that R&B/Soul in her voice which you can see is natural and talent but Hayi also has that R&B/Soul in hers. I'm not being biased, I just want fans to stop praising one and hating the other. They're in the same company, maybe they're even close to each other, you'll never know. I just hate seeing people starting fanwars between artists in the same company. It happened and is still happening with Winner and iKon, being a Winkon, I know how bad it feels. 제 개인적인 생각에는 케이티 킴이 원래 버클리 음대출신이기도 하고, 외신에서도 주목하고 있어서 이왕 하는거 월드와이드한 방향성을 두고 가는게 좋다 생각해요,,물론 국내팬들은 아쉽겠지만 국내보다는 세계음악시장의 중심인 미국에서 크게 활동하는게 국내음악의 위상을 높이는 길이 아닌가 생각합니당
미국오디션은 지원자 수도 더 많고 규모도 크기 때문에 예상에 불과하지만 미국오디션이 더 힘들기때문에 국내오디션을 본 게 아닐까 싶어요. 물론 아예 미국오디션 볼 생각도 없었을수도 있고요. 어쨌든간에 케이팝스타라는 프로를 통해서 yg라는 큰 기획사에 들어갔고 결국 유통만 담당해준다는 하에 회사를 나갔지만 해외프로듀서랑도 접촉하면서 이번음원을 내게 되었고 자기 색깔이 뚜렸하기에 지금상황은 나쁘지않다 생각해요! 아예 해외를 생각해두고 음원을 제작하는 거 같네요.

Soul is not coming from "the place" it's just there already. Inside the person. Inversely it is expressed 'through' the gerne like R&B.
