Imagine being a Seahawks fan in 1990. You had this game, you had 3 games that went into overtime, and you had the week 16 Sunday night game against the Broncos where the Broncos won on a Hail Mary on the final play, only for the refs to call a penalty and take it away. Five unbelievable finishes
And despite a 9-7 record still missed the playoffs
They lost the next game after this, but then went 5-1 in their last 6 games.
On the last day of the season they needed a 3-12 Browns team to beat the Bengals in the early game, but Cincinnati prevailed 21-14 and Seattle was eliminated by the start of their game against Detroit.
Derek Loville was the opening day starter at RB for SEA and had 9 carries for 6 yards or something and never played again until 1994 with the 49ers
Looks like the Seahawk have always liked giving their fans heart attacks

For a lot of defensive ends and linebackers, 6 sacks is a solid season
Derrick Thomas had 2 separate games where he had 6+ sacks (this one and a 1998 game against the Raiders). He was on a different level

As a Raiders fan, I vividly remember that Week 1 destruction. Jon Gruden and Charles Woodson's first games with the Raiders. And Thomas could've gotten 9 sacks that night. The Chiefs had 10. Jeff George took a righteous beating.

Real fans follow NFL throwback,regardless of which team you're a fan of. I guess,most of us embrace past football history. Sounding kind of "old." LOL.

I remember someone asking Derrick Thomas what he remembered most about this game and he said something along the lines of “I never really think about the 7 sacks I DID get. It’s the 1 I DIDN’T get that kept me up at night.” That’s the mindset that enabled him to get 7 sacks in 1 game to begin with.
Dave Krieg is the Philip Rivers of this era of football. Really good QB for a long period of time that was an absolute legend with his team, but got overshadowed by some other great QBs and is likely going to miss out on the Hall of Fame
I think Philip Rivers will get into the Hall of Fame
What also hurts Kreig more than Rivers is that he never led the league in any major passing category. Rivers has done this a few times at least, and had a year in 2010 where he was in the MVP conversation. Don't think Kreig ever had that feather in his cap at least.
I'm a big Seahawks fan and I loved the 80s Seahawks. Dave Krieg doesn't deserve the hall of Fame but he was a very good player. He came from a small school that no longer exists and is an underdog story. He played pretty well for a long time and won a lot of games. His career record was 98-77.

Rivers was a step above Krieg. Krieg was not as consistent, which is why he changed teams a lot after he left Seattle. Krieg was more of a QB who played acceptably for a long time.
Seahawks really need to wear their retro uni’s again someday. NFL needs to change the helmet rule.
They are going to do that next year.

Derrick Thomas has arguably the best defensive performance of all-time and they still lose. '90s Chiefs football in a nutshell.
Yea and his partner in crime on quarterbacks Neil Smith won back to back rings and im sure he was happy for him but it had to of been brutal seeing him do it in a broncos uniform
Dave Krieg is so underrated. Undrafted out of a college that no longer exists, retired over 20 years and is still top-25 in several passing categories.
As long as Krieg had breath in his lungs, I always believed that the Seahawks had a chance.
Imaging having Seven sacks in One game and still losing and possibly winning it if he could just hold on

Always felt this was a moral lesson never to give up, no matter how you get your ass kicked in a game. RIP Derick Thomas, you left this planet way too soon.
Derrick Thomas was just a beast! I have this one in my collection. Gotta say the shadow to light contrast is a lot better here. Anywho, it's a testament to Krieg to keep getting up and eventually throwing the dagger that beat KC.
Derrick Thomas inspired me to be an outside linebacker. With enough time and effort, I was able to make one on Madden

Yeah because most people only know hall of fame qbs from the 80s and 90s none of the good ones. And half the Seattle fanbase started watching them in 2013 so they only know Russ and Hasselbeck

Classic Ground Chuck...I respected those Seahawks teams as a Raiders fan...they were always tough to beat and we took a few beatings in the Kingdome.

David Krieg was an expert at fumbling the ball near his own goal. Lol. But i remember this game. I was in high school in Washington State. Largent was my favorite player and so was Paul Skansi. Haha
This game helped give my Raiders home field and the AFC West. KC lost again when Warren Moon almost broke Norm Van Brocklin's single game record for the Oilers. I was with my late father getting ready to go to the LA Coliseum for the Raiders/Bengals game most famous for Bo Jackson being caught at the one yard line on an 88 yard run by "Hot" Rod Jones. Great memories.
I wish we would of had Derrick Thomas and that Chiefs defense with Mahomes and the our offense now. We would be unstoppable we would definitely go undefeated. (RIP Derrick Thomas)

The ending of this game was poetic justice, for all the years and tough losses we suffered in Arrowhead Stadium. Dave Kreig, was immense he took a beating hung in there and delivered the game winning TD pass. I love RW, he is the MVP in franchise history, and his assessment of the line is completely valid but he should look at this game and take note. Kreig , practically played his entire Hawks career behind this porous line but he never publicly called out HC, Chuck Knox, &

Yeah, the game has changed. Kreig getting called for intentional grounding after rolling out and throwing out of bounds.
Steve Deberg Threw 23 TDs to 4 INT in 1990 which was unheard of at that time, to start 16 games and throw so few intetceptions. Launched the rebirth of the game managing QB archetype.
And not for the better... I miss real defenses, and less flags.

I remember listening to the end of this game on the radio on the way home from church with my mom. Pete Gross was play by play and Steve Rable was the color man back then on Seahawk radio 710 KIRO. That was a happy day !
If Pete Gross were here to listen to Steve Raible do the play by play commentary today, he would be proud.

I miss this kind of NFL defense.
This game is a perfect example of Thomas's career. All sorts of talent , great record setting numbers, an exciting build-up, but no real payoff in the end. KC never did anything during his stay.
Shame too. He was one of the great ones too.

Everyone is talking about Derrick Thomas, and rightfully so.
Nobody is talking about Neil Smith #90 or Dan Saleaumua #97 (1:41). All three were in on that play for a reason.
That defensive front was ferocious.
Maybe you should watch this game again with an eye on those two and how they helped Thomas get those sacks by giving the QB nowhere to escape.

This was 1990 but it was really the last hurrah of the 80s Seahawks. They could have won a championship if they had better luck.

30 years later, the most accurate kicker is 90%, and most of all, kickers are above 85% .. but back then, in the 1990s, they didn't really go for 50+ yarders on a normal basis. Nowadays it's expected and they're still hitting them.
