Awesome. A first step towards putting St. Louis back on the map. Now it's time to add direct flights to Asia. Direct flights to Asia are even more important for St. Louis. 1. If St. Louis is to be a great tech and start-up hub, it needs that connection. 2. Asia is a favorite regional tourist destination. 3. There are a considerable number of international students from Asia at St. Louis area Universities. 4. With one of the top medical schools in the world...and some of the best research facilities...this sector would also benefit from a direct travel link. Tokyo, Hong Kong, Incheon, Seoul, Manila, or Singapore would all be good options. The ideal would be one flight a couple of times per week to China, and one flight a couple of times per week to Japan...but any could work. There could be direct flights for both passengers and cargo. Now THIS would be a game changer. It would help lay the groundwork for attracting other businesses to St. Louis...either for HQ's...or regional/North American HQ's. It could also encourage more startups to take root in St. Louis. People from the area who want to travel to Asia as tourists could do so more efficiently. Also..it provides a connection for the big Asian community in the St. Louis area with their home region... especially international students. They could jet home during a break...without dealing with going to Chicago...or stopping and changing planes in NYC or Washington D.C. It would help energize & support the startup community already here, the various tech companies in particular. It would help promote business development...and connect company leaders with suppliers, manufacturers and customers overseas.
The funny thing about this. Airlines that had indirect flights from StLouis to Europe prices dropped as much as 900 dollars even Luthansa made the announcement.

When I lived in St Louis in the late nineties, TWA had regular services to Paris and London.
