Last week, Lufthansa announced brand new service between Frankfurt and St. Louis beginning on June 1st, 2022. This is huge news as it marks the first time in nearly 20 years that STL will have nonstop service to continental Europe. St. Louis Lambert Airport has been struggling over the recent years with international service, so this is huge news for the city and airport. You might be wondering HOW of all places did St. Louis, Missouri get Lufthansa?? In this video I explain why Lufthansa decided to launch this new service. Hopefully by the end of this video, it will all make sense! Congratulations St. Louis and thank you Lufthansa!

It’s important to remember that what’s really the bread and butter of this route is cargo. The many German as well as other large companies with a market in Europe will benefit with direct service for their cargo.

I’m pretty sure there are actually four international destinations in four different countries, not counting Frankfurt. There are the ones in Mexico and the Dominican Republic, but also a seasonal one to Jamaica and then an Air Canada flight to Toronto.
Very excited about the Lufthansa flight, I’ll be taking it in June! STL-FRA-CDG Coming back, it’ll be so nice to be able to leave Europe and just come right back home to STL.

Lufthansa has been expanding their service quite a bit since the pandemic. This year they’re adding flights to Raleigh/Durham, Minneapolis from Frankfurt and Seattle from their Munich hub. Condor is getting in on the action too with the start of seasonal flights to San Antonio. Not sure about Minneapolis or Seattle, but Raleigh is a city that has been attracting a lot of new business and residents for some time now so it makes sense for Lufthansa to seize the opportunity and provide a robust economic impact to Raleigh (along with Minneapolis and Seattle). Not to mention the ethnic communities in those cities to soon be able to more easily visit family and relatives in their country of origin. Also I gotta say Lufthansa is really clinging on to their 747s for dear life.

British Caledonian Airways used to fly nonstop from St. Louis to London Gatwick back in the 1980s. The service began with 707 aircraft, and eventually used DC-10s.

I’m really happy to learn this - you’re going to see the other alliances come into the picture and STL Authority knows this. It’s going to stimulate the market there. These smaller cities like Indy, Kansas City, etc are also grossly underserved when it comes to international markets.

The runway closest to the terminal at one time was one of the busiest in the country. Soon after the buyout with AA. AA pilots did not like how TWA use of the taxiway crossing while acft was either taking off or landing. In the past I took a TWA flight from FRA to STL on a 757.

The main thing for any airline is butts in the seats, whether that be business people or tourists. San Antonio airport gave similar incentives to Air Canada and I think British Airways, but the passenger market just wasn't there. Both airlines have since ramped up their flight service 75 miles up the hwy at Austins Airport.

@@ASAviation they never stopped service to RUH, they even operate daily flights to Dammam! Even KLM, I really hope they come back to JED. KLM operate daily flights to RUH and Dammam too. BA currently flies to Riyadh only, they flew to jeddah daily before terminating the destination, they operated about 5 flights in November and they re-terminated the destination, I don't know why? And Garuda Indonesia stopped flying to jeddah since April maybe, even now international flights are open between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, but currently only Saudia is the only airline flying between Indonesia and KSA.
