- British Lasagna is comfort food at best. Great from the oven but can be eaten cold. This is my take on probably hundreds of different British versions. I love a British Lasagna with a bit of salad and coleslaw, hey but that’s me!

Suggestion to all viewers on the question as to whether or not this is true Lasagne. Look up the definition and read about its origins. It said there are two common styles of Lasagne. One is Italian. The other referred to as American is prepared exactly the way Chef Rik made it. We all need to have a more open mind when it comes to food nowadays. There are so many fusions in many dishes from almost every country. When in doubt, we can always Google the definition and obtain more information. Have a pleasant day everyone. 😊❤
Thank you! Well done, good reply! I've given up on the purists that haven't a clue what is available in other countries, they all like the sound of their own voice. It's the world we live in. That's me being honest as ever. Thank you. Best, Rik
I’m going to cook this British Lasagna, looks delicious!
Hope you enjoy it. Just eliminate the Italian Lasagna from your mind when you do. Best, Rik
Made this yesterday and plenty leftovers for dinner tonight….. brilliant Rik, thank you for sharing!!!! I was tempted to suggest you do a book, but your videos are superb, and I’d miss your presentation technique. Your laidback, no fuss attitude towards cooking is so refreshing. Good man🇬🇧🏴🇬🇧
Fantastic! That's what I love to hear. Thanks for sharing. I can't write. Best, Rik
Rik another will do recipe. I’ve made a lot of lasagna but I like the addition of the beef gravy so looking forward to making it
Rik, I love your béchamel sauce, now I always put cheese in it, thanks for the suggestion
Thank you. Best, Rik
I used to make Lasagne a lot but haven’t made it for ages cos it’s only me. I’m going to start making it again cos I do love lasagne. I always make mine very much like yours and your bechamel sauce is exactly like mine too. I used to make sauces with cornflour till I began cooking for the nuns and also in an aged care facility. I learned to do things a lot different.
Thank you. Best, Rik
Got to change the way I do it from now on thank you x
Thank you. Best, Rik
Garfield the cat is salivating
Talk about coincidence, I made a lasagna last night. My Mrs is a purist re béchamel sauce, she insists on boiling milk with onion and bay leaves etc and then add that to a roux. I’m lazy so what I used to do was combine cornstarch/cornflour with the butter/margarine then add milk and heat while stirring so I never got any lumps. I’ve adapted my method now. I boil the milk with the onions and bay leaves. I then use the onions and leaves in the spaghetti sauce. I add cornflour, a teaspoon of mustard powder and butter to the cool milk and heat. This gives me the best of both worlds. I also add chilli, bacon and store bought pasta sauce to the meat along with red wine and Worcestershire sauce, sugar and a dash of vinegar, my son adds a spicy sliced sausage as well when he cooks. Please try the béchamel method, I’m sure you will love it; full flavour and no lumps and (aside from cooling time) very fast. Our standard spaghetti sauce invariably includes grated carrot& zucchini, finely chopped celery inc leaves, basil & spinach leaves. Sometimes grated potatoes too. Anything to get more veggies into the boys. Cheers mate
I will give it a go - sounds a great - love to learn new ways! Thanks Glen. Best, Rik
@@BackyardChef hi Rik. I should have mentioned that I only boil sufficient milk to be infused with the onion and bay leaves-not the entire volume. Cheers
Add a dollop of Coleman's mustard into the cheese sauce, it just adds to the flavour of a truly English lasagne.
Thank you. Best, Rik
I will be trying this recipe easy peasy and looks very tasty. An English guy at SARASAS school where I worked used to make and sell cartoons of Lasagna but he went back to the UK.
Hope you enjoy. Best, Rik
Awesome recipe Rik. Thanks
Anglosagna :) looks deelish. I'll be making this, thaks Rik.
Yes, this is a cracker = very nice. Hope you enjoy it. Best, Rik
Thank you so much. I'm definitely going to try this. It looks really good.
You are so welcome! Thank you. Best, Rik
When you realize Lasagna has a deeply British root it's crazy. The Romans or Greeks I can't remember had a version of it too but what were all mostly familiar with is what the Brits gave us.
Lasagna all over the world but the thing is the British version and variants of it are made everywhere! As you say crazy to say its a pasta dish - I love it! Best, Rik
As British as Yorkshire Tea is. Lol
@@luigiluigi2098 Love Yorkshire Tea. Best, Rik
@@luigiluigi2098I don’t drink any other 👍
British? Online it says Lasgna was invented in 14th century Italy
Cheers Rik that looks great! I often just use minced pork here in LOS as beef mince is a little bit too pricey but still works well. I've not made a lasagna for years but use pork or chicken mince or sometimes a mix of the two for spag bol and of course kick it up a notch with chilli flakes. Ta mate
Yes, any mince works well - adjust to taste - shove in what you like, mate. BBest, Rik
Looks SO good! I love the use of Béchamel sauce instead of Ricotta (which I hate). Can't wait to make it. Thanks, Rik!
Thank you. Best, Rik
Lovely using real stove top hob.
Thank you. Best, Rik
OMG , looks fantastic ❤
Looks wonderful!
Tasty! Thank you. Best, Rik

@@BackyardChef Thank you, will still watch your other delights! I hope the new move goes well! Michele 🤩
Just bought one of these air fryer ovens .Thank you I came across your videos ..I am viewing them everyday.Just over the pond in N Ireland
If you can resist the temptation let it cool place it in the fridge reheat the next day it really seems to intensify the favour noticeably. Love your recipes Rik 👍.
Agreed! Thank you. Best, Rik
Excuse my ignorance but how is what you call Italian lasagne different to this?
This is the only way I have ever seen it made - ragu sauce, lasagne sheets and bechamel sauce.
Do a Scottish one. Deep fry it 😂
Thank you. Best, Rik
@@BackyardChef Btw it looked v tasty 😉
@@Travis_22 Thank you. Best, Rik
I'll stick with an Italian vegetarian lasagne, thank you, that looks nasty! But, I do like many of your creations.
Its fantastic we all have choices. Thank you. Best, Rik
I'm sorry, but that is not lasagna. What you've cooked looks delicious, but it's not true lasagna.
Who said it was"true lasagna"? You need to read the title, I think.
I agree with 462.. I rate all your videos. Your an amazing top chef but this was soo painful to watch
No it's very good but it's not lasagna!
@@BackyardChef no ! It's very good but the lasagna it's italian food ! This not lasagna! Sorry
Lasagna, often associated with Italy, actually originated in ancient Greece. The name "lasagna" is derived from the Greek word "lasagna," which refers to a flat sheet of pasta dough cut into strips. The concept of lasagna then made its way to Italy, where it evolved into its current form by adding traditional Italian ingredients like tomatoes, meats, and cheeses. The modern version of lasagna that we're familiar with, layered with these ingredients and baked, was developed in Italy. However, look at the title again: BRITISH LASAGNA - nothing to do with Italy.
