Enjoyed your chat about Chawton House and your memories. I understand your enjoyment of growing up there and that the house still stands. Makes me wish our family farmhouse was still standing. With pleasure I took part in the transcribing Frank Austin’s Memoir. Maybe one day I will visit the area. Thank you
So fun to see Caroline Jane Knight speaking about her early life at Chawton! I heard about her book in 2017 and promptly requested it for a Christmas present. I read it right away and was so excited to hear of the details of her life, the history of the house, as she told it, and her perspective on Jane Austen, her ancestor. I hope to see her someday in the UK (or maybe when she is in the US). I also hope she continues to support the collective effort to keep Chawton House as a cherished historic site.
I totally love this woman, and know Jane Austen would as well! How wonderful to grow up in Chawton House, especially as a relative of the inimitable Jane!
This is a lovely preface to the book you wrote and I am very much looking forward to reading it. I wrote an article on how religion is displaced in Jane Austen’s ‘Sense and Sensibility’ (Meta) and am currently conducting research on the importance of literature in language learning with reference to her work. As a learner of English, I read all of Jane Austen novels avidly, and can claim to have developed my voice in English through hers. I would be very happy to contribute to your literacy programme in any way you see fit. Dr Alain J.E. Wolf (PhD Cantab, FHEA)
I bought "Jane & Me" when the book first came out and enjoyed it very much. So nice to see the author in this chat. Seeing her and listening to her talk reinforces what I felt after reading the book. Caroline's writing ability, strength, individuality and spunk (especially evident in the book) remind me so much of her famous ancestor. It's lovely to see family traits handed down through generations.
A big thanks to Caroline Knight and to CHAWTON House for sponsoring this UA-cam talk. Very enjoyable and lovely to hear about her memories of growing up in house. I’m going to now buy her book.
What a wonderful experience - to listen to your presentation and see the joy on your face as you reflected on your childhood at Chawton House. My daughter and I visited the area after taking a train from London and walking what felt like miles to get to Jane's cottage and then hitching a ride to Chawton House. I knew exactly the places you were talking about. I repeat - What a wonderful experience. Thank you so very much.
I listened to the audiobook Jane and me . It’s fantastic Caroline .. thank you I love listening to your stories about Jane and the Austen /knight family xx 💕
Delightful. There is a family resemblance and we can imagine Jane's eyes sparkling with such good natured mischief.. 🥰 must find your book.. thank you for sharing lovely childhood adventures. 💚
Such a fantastic talker, I could have listened to Caroline all day! Such wonderful family memories of Chawton House. Loved the description of ‘snap dragon’, sounds like fun!
Chawton House is such a magical place and your story helps explain why. Thank you Caroline, for your dedication and enthusiasm. I'm sure the ancestors are all smiling down on your amazing efforts and success, Bravo! ❤️
Wonderfully positive woman! Seems to have something of Edward Knight's chin. Think I first visited the cottage in the mid-80s but don't think I found my way to Chawton House; not sure I realised it was open - or that it had a tea-room!
This was such a beautiful thing to do... What a wonderful story too. You are so down to earth and just a real pleasure to listen to. Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. ❤
So, Knight is why Jane called her hero in Emma Mr Knightly to honour your Knight family. Is this correct, ma'am, please? Kind regards from Elizabeth in Yorkshire😊
I'm listening to "Jane Austen & Me" in audio book format and can't understand the narrator when she refers to the nickname given the grandfather. Could someone please tell me what did the author call her grandfather Knight?
There are sooo many relatives of Jane austen by her siblings children and their children and their children.. i guess they all not know all of them ..or?

Wow, how amazing to have such a close ancestor as Jane Austen!

This talk was a joy. I could sense your pleasure in having grown up at Chawton House, even though the leaving of it was a hard thing to do. Thank you.

A real treat to hear Caroline relate her experiences of Chawton House. A good time to listen again to Jane & Me to escape lockdown.🙏🏻📚
Good talk. It is interesting to hear about the past times at Chawton and can only imagine the heartbreak at having to leave.

Wish you could have this talk at the house itself
