Also, one more way to identify high carbon steel is to see the number of "dandelion heads" it has,a dandelion head is when it throws off a spark, but it splits into multiple pieces and looks like a head of one of those dried dandelions, the more of them, the steel has a higher carbon content
I have a horseshoe that i found,it's rusted, but i'll try to make a flint striker in a year when i get back to my home on the summer break, now i'll have a lucky flint striker
Love your clips Nick........ that forge looks very makeable....I don't have a forge.....I need a forge...would you please explain how to make one..or is it bought. Question: does hardened steel make a different sound, if equal in all other ways.
+Green Elf Thank you for watching! I've been meaning to do a forge build for a while, but I've been having a hard time finding a piece of 8 or 10 inch steel pipe to make one. I might just go ahead and do a forge overview showing all the parts. You'd need a welder to make one like mine, but I'm planning on making one that doesn't require a welder as well. Once I can find some pipe that isn't galvanized, I'll get started!
how will you know that the rebar is a high carbon steel theres a lot of rebar around i never thought that it can be made a fire striker many said it cant be i was amazed by your video rebar fire striker its very nice and simple to make
hey there Nick!have you ever tried to make a bow out of Teflon pipe?that's the only material I can get my hands on here,so please can you answer my comment?thanks!
Cool man, So I am a Germanian, that means man of the Stear, could you tackel that area from a hawaiian, Midle ages and Nativ american expireance, mixed with the Backyard Bowyers skils. Your Stamm
+Luke Finlayson The flint I'm using was gifted to me at a local knapp-in last year. It's Texas flint, not sure where it's from, so it might be chert. My file strikers, which usually produce lots of sparks with English fire flints, don't do so well with it. I'm still trying to find a good supply of flint for fire fire starting. Thanks for watching!
+Copperman What kind of hidden tang knife did you have in mind? I've been meaning to do a Finnish puukko or Japanese kaiken for a while. Thanks for watching!
Hey Nick I was wondering if you can show us how you built your forge or show us your set up? Thanks.
Rebar is my favorite general purpose forging material.

Nick, I really think you should make a Macuahuitl; it involves flintknapping and woodworking, which are both your interests.
