Many Indonesians wonder why many foreigners keep going back to Bali as there are many other nicer beaches or more spectacular sceneries all over Indonesia (and also in ASEAN) which I have visited more than a dozen of cities and scenic places in Sumatra, Java (including Jakarta) and Lombok. They are worth a visit but nowhere you can get the creative architecture, accommodation, tourist attractions, eateries and shops like in Bali. But most importantly, the open minded & friendly culture & vibe is unique to Bali within Indonesia. Being from Malaysia, travelling to Indonesia is easy with many direct flights and I can always get around with Bahasa. I will continue to explore more places in Indonesia but Bali will always be the one I keep going back to (over 50 times already!)
Welcome to Jakarta! I recommend you to explore SOUTH Jakarta using the MRT system: 1. Pacific Place Mall at Sudirman Central Business District/SCBD (open after 20 July) 2. Senopati area - the party hub of South Jakarta. Fancy bars, clubs, lounges 3.Blok M Square area - huge mall for the masses, tons of street food. 4. M Bloc - a small artsy area where the hipsters are. Nice cafes and art installations. 5. Kemang area - the expat community center, tons of international restaurants, clubs, bars
Actually Jakarta is not a tourist city like Singapore, Bangkok or KL.jakarta is a central buisness city for local people and foreigners,but explore Jakarta it's good idea.
I think most people still hasn't realized that unlike Thailand and Philippine, Indonesia's economic has never rely on foreign tourism. That's why cities like Jakarta don't cater to 'sight seeing' tourist, only business ones.
Jakarta is central of economy and industry, while Bali and Nusa tenggara including West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa tenggara is base of tourism industry.
Philippines' economy does not heavily rely on tourism, FYI. In SEA Thailand and Indonesia get the bigger slices of the pie in tourist arrival. There are two significant drivers of economy in the Philippines; 1. The Business Process Outsourcing industry and 2. The OFW remittances . However, of course the basic industries are still the major economic contributors/drivers (Manufacturing, agriculture and services) and tourism comes next.
I think learning the basic local language of each country such as “thank you would be beneficial and will go a longways ...& not to assume everyone understands English !

That is one of the nicest areas indeed, but not the nicest tho. Go walk around at thamrin sudirman, or gbk stadium many people go there to exercise. Monas area. Pik avenue, but thats up north pretty far from where u at now.
I miss Jakarta a lot, heaven for food lovers. The local, mexican, morroco, asia, europe, africa and many more. Just saying and explore. All of the restaurants are available. My two cent tip, more cheap and save your money explore jakarta with public transportation, bus, metro, commuter line etc. Just buy e card from indomart or alfamart.

Maybe you can go to "Henshin Roof-top Bar" just nearby your JS Luwansa Hotel or hidden gem "NORU Rooftop Lounge". Looking for some Hipsters Cafes? you can go to "Jalan Senopati" and "Kemang area". well, Jakarta is such a contrasting city, people called it "Big Durian" if "NYC is Big Apple" you'll have a love-hate relationship with the city... take care!

Cool video I have been to Jakarta twice as 2 day stopovers to get to Bali and Lombok respectively. It is worth visiting Jakarta because the city is quite dynamic with greenery. Love Merdeka Square where Istiqlal Mosque is located. I have visited Bangkok, Singapore and KL and it is probably not at the same level as these cities but it is does have a lot to offer and I love the city

if you are in Jakarta don't forget to visit the Thousand Islands. It is located off the North coast of Jakarta. Smaller islands that are more beautiful than the island of Bali.

The recomend place mister Bule Thats is Belitung Island Indonesia Close by Jakarta around 1hour by Plane its very uniq place like Planet of Giant Granit stones
For the grittier but more historic sites, you can visit Kota Tua (Old City) square. They have a nice restaurant called Cafe Batavia (somewhat pricy but still nice to visit), and the historic former Headquarter of the Dutch East India Company (VOC). It was the first multinational corporation in the world, AND the first publicly-traded company in the world.
I don't know now, but decades ago, Jakarta was defintely one of the poles of high crime areas....hopefully everything changed drastically lately, and one can stroll w/o any risk...almost anytime )))
I agree with your message at the end. I think people who overlook less touristy cities maybe tend to be typical holiday makers who only have 1 or 2 trips a year with their annual leave :P
Good video but the area where you were staying (Rasuna Said) and where you walked to (Satrio) are definitely not the best area in Jakarta. There are many interesting and pleasant areas in Jakarta (actually close to where you were), hopefully you found them. Jakarta is a good city to live and work in - but probably not a place for holiday makers.
For the people who said you can not do anything in jakarta. They dont know well about huge jakarta 😂😂😂. Jakarta has 5 districts (central, south, west, north and west) + 1 satellite city (thousand islands)u will not believe that jakarta has islands like in bali or lombok. For suggestion, prepare ur stamina, ur wallet and make a list before visit jakarta...after covid pandemic ofcourse.

Indonesia tourism WAS underated for some people others don't.
Your area is not the nicest because it's a construction zone, it's chaotic and messy. Try Thamrin or Senayan.
