It's all happenin' right here. Subscribe and you won't miss a thing.
Hello Dave, and/or Rhino people. My first ROCK CONCERT let alone Dead concert was 24 Mar 1973 at the Philly Spectrum. I came up in the back of a yellow Ryder rental truck from the Md. suburbs of D.C. with 30 people, which is a different post. The concert opened my ears to ways which music can work that I didn’t know existed. I was astonished to learn the Dead were going to play RFK Stadium with the Allman Brothers on 9-10 Jun 1973, mere weeks later. I had to go to both concerts to try to more fully appreciate music such as this, which I did. I’d never heard of the Allmans before, but their jamming seemed much like that of the Dead and was quite powerful, and this spectacular weekend of music changed my music life more after the Spectrum show in March. Each day two bands played before the Dead and the Allmans. I think Doug Sahm and Wet Willie opened on the 9th, and Tucky Buzzard and Wet Willie opened on the 10th, but I’m not sure. The 50th anniversary of these concerts is quickly approaching. Dead-wise, these concerts have historically been overshadowed by the enormous Watkins Glen concert later in the summer. I would love to see a combined Allmans-Dead release of this weekend of concerts, with a big booklet of remembrances of those in attendance, especially those in the various bands. Thanks you!
“Hawk on a Post” Was first played on July 2, 1971In a grassy field behind the dairy farm in Delafield Wisconsin
Hah, good one!
Thank You Dave 🙏♥️😁👍
Let There Be Songs! To Fill The Air 🤘❤⚡💙💀🌹🍄🌵🌳💨💨

Can't wait for this one! Liked the Bald Eagle break.
Break for all Birds im.Puffin nice to meet you!🐧
Harford County Maryland here!! Yay! Baltimore made it to Dave’s Picks!!
Dave is my hero.
Dave, I love you and your fascination with nature! I will never not look at a bird, particularly an eagle. Thank you for selecting all of these shows for us.
As I drove across Kansas yesterday i was delighted to see dozens of hawks on fenceposts and swooping beside the highway 400 west, good magic signs
Dave, you are just like me with the hawks and the Eagles! I get so excited when I see them. Thank you for that diversion! Thank you for this release, too.
I love how Dave reacts to wildlife. Never change.
So cool!
Much love Dave! 🙏
Thanks for all the work that goes into these releases!!!!!!
Good Ol- Days !!!

😵 Oooops......rambling?
Pocket rambling. I am sober. 😉
Talk About " Synchronicity" I awake Today & Think to Myself " Wonder What the Next Daves Picks is Gone Be ?" Thanks Dave.
Thank you for taking Today ❤💙💜 my favorite UA-cam witch is Tess Whitehurst I hope you like her videos and magic!
I rate all sugarees against the one from 1980 on Garcia live 1. It’s the Cornell of sugaree. Incredible.
Haha the Cornell of sugaree. I like
Always magnificent stuff!!!
Please never stop noticing and telling us about the wildlife!! It's like the icing on the cake! Thankyou.
It’s working Dave! Thank you for all you do
love ya dave! Thanks for everything
Loved the pan to the Eagle 🦅 never apologize for eyeing nature 😊
Thank you Dave! Really looking forward to this release. I love the power of 77 shows.
About 3 days ago, I have listened to all of Roadtrips, All of Dick's, St. Louis, Giant's Stadium, July 1978, Spring 90 and The Other Spring 90, Both MAYs 1977, June 1976 and Veneta..... and am current on Dave's. I could not have made it thro covid up to this point without the joy of opening your new instalment of Dead Music. I thank all at Rhino for making all these recordings available for purchase!!!! I can not wait until the next Box Set!!!!
With May 77 you can't go wrong
Gonna need a Sasquatch break next time!
Love the hearing the details of the story. It's a pocket of an American Master Piece. Thanks Dave and everyone envoled
Eagle breaks are 100% worth it EVERY TIME!

Thanks Dave! 😉
Got my discs the other day and the Music Never Stops!!!! At least at my House..
Reminds of dancing about architecture... or singing about being quiet.
Right on 😎
Dave is just plain old good vibes! Keep calling out the wildlife!!!
Bonus big bald eagle! 😄👍
Thank you so much Dave! 🙏❤️
Nice to have the yearly subscription so I don't have to rush to order!
I love your style of humility. Thank you very much for the work that you do. I laughed so hard: “Interesting enough, sort of’”. All best wishes.
Dave, you brilliant Canadian Head. Excited for this as always
Late 70's were my favorite era (maybe because my first show was in 1976?). Many good times at Winterland and then at Henry J Kaiser in Oakland. Keep 'em coming Dave!
This guy has my dream job. I say as I put my suit jacket on and sigh.
Congrats on Vol. 41!
That said, I have to ask again. Would you please work on these limited releases? The number of Heads that want the music, FAR outweighs the scraps being thrown out to us.
I know the demand is there, some reissue’s would be great too, again without ridiculously small limited releases.
When any Dead LP is on eBay for $800 ( or more ) there is something very wrong, imho…
They should either start releasing the oldest Dave's Picks onto streaming services so new heads can enjoy without spending hundreds of dollars on one CD or re-release them as CD's, although the former option would be much preferred for this digital age. Also, by not releasing their old releases, they just turn more people onto torrents and other less-than-legal ways of acquiring the music.
Get the subscription. That way you won’t have anything to worry about
@@jonmarcus6343 I think it's less about the availability at the time of the release but more the accessibility to people who get into the Dead after the fact. I got into the dead winter of 2019 but have no way of ever being able to get my hands on Dave's Picks 1 - released in 2012 - without either shilling out hundreds of dollars or torrenting it. I can torrent it no problem but to have a personal physical copy that would be re-released or available to stream on my devices would be much cooler and accessible to everyone
This was my first show , I wasn't born until September but my father took my mother to the civic center most likely not what she wanted to do at the time . She always said she never liked the dead but she just didn't like my father 😅. I've listened to this show a lot on youtube and I'm glad I'll finally be able to have a hard copy
Nice to meet you Dave I'm Puffin , oh you mentioned the Hawk when I said Puffin, just listened to a lot of Dead driving cross country, first time I've seen you, Magic!🎅🏿
"the eagle fills the sky-iiii..." Great choice for #41!! Wonderful tunes. I LOVE HIGH TIME! and i wanna wish that one of this years releases is from the '60's. You did say if you like variety then this is the year to have subscribed! Thanks David, GD, and the muse of all music mayhem.
I miss seeing the Dave's picks series on Spotify ):
Damn I was just saying to myself I wish they were on Spotify! Guess they were before 😩
@@sergiocamacho8221 They never were. The CDs resell for hundreds. The Dick's Picks and the Download Series are on Spotify though.
I just saw them twice. First was in the East Bay. They were called the Warlocks and soon to be GD. The second show was Jerry's last CA show at Shoreline. (A very Bizarre day) So I basically saw them twice. The Alpha and the Omega.
OMG Dave is so funny with his long-windedness…his verbosity makes ME seem brief. I kid because I love him! Pretty sure he could have said in 5 what took 20 mins but it’s is all good. Love the shows, love his work, and I appreciate the man and what he’s given this planet greatly! Always happy with May ‘77 and keep those late 80s and 90s shows coming too plz.
Dave,
You are bankrupting me! I have a meerschaum pipe, carved by the best carver in Turkey, of each of your Dave's picks cover art. Looks like I will now have 41 pipes!!
Thanks for all your work bring out these cd's. Great music!!
Mr. Pete----------->
aging hippie
Agreed!
Nice jacket, Dave !
Dave, I absolutely love what you are doing with this series, and have been subscribed since year 2. My only comment on this present is to your statement in this vid that Estimated was always followed by Eyes until 1990. I was at Colgate, 11/4/77, and that was the first time they switched it. Maybe not until 1990 again, but Eyes>Estimated is there in Dave’s Picks 12, Cotterell Gym, Colgate University 11/4/77 (BearInSc)
Still waiting for 12/1/79
Love the same of your channel.
🦅🦅
I'd like to fish right there while smoking a joint with the Grateful Dead on some headphones
When the moon splits the southwest horizon
With the scream of an eagle on the fly
Look, a squirrel!
Look a snake in the grass..
The mic is working well. The sound of water is so clear it's causing...you know. Welcome info though. Thanks.
Frost 4-27-85 has ( IIRC ) Scarlet>Eyes> GDTR...
Release that show Dave!
Whoever bet the under on the "Dave gets distracted by an animal in 30 seconds" prop bet, congratulations.
Last leaf fallen bare earth where green was born,
Black Madonna two eagles hang against a cloud,
Sun comes up blood red wind yells among the stone,
All graceful instruments are known.
Robert Petersen
😃
Dave, any chance y’all will ever release the Tuscaloosa ‘77 show? There’s a lot of dead heads in ttown that I know would love to hear it
It came out as part of a box set - May 1977.
I had no idea! Thank you very much, ken
Dave 7/13/84 please!!
Winterland '74 coming up , Sa Weet
On balance the best show I ever saw. Dave, you hit the highlights, and agree with the fall '77 comparison as there's a rawness to the sound, like Jerry was playing the Wolf and not the TB (but I can attest to that big white guitar being on stage, it was mesmerizing). My favorite versions ever of Bertha, NFA and GDTRFB. At his best Bob adds a tension to the sound that is almost subliminal but so critical. Jerry and Bob sort of duel to the end of NFA, it's just so spontaneous, much better than the version the next night or any others that tour. He does this little scratchy thing during NFA that sounds like chipmunks running around on his fret board. Cracks me up every time!
Okay, I ordered it-I had to complete Deer Creek 90.
Aloha Dave, I'm curious to learn where your videos are recorded...or at least the general location The shoreline locations are SO beautiful!!
I see this was posted 16 hrs ago, but why do I feel like I saw it 2 months +/- ago? What the hell is going on with me?😳
Jerry brought out Jack a Roe in Chicago (5-13-77), not Tuscaloosa.
Odd, maybe the only May 77 show I had to look up because I couldn't remember the basic secind set jam sequence from memory. Maybe I'm just getting old.
Adha hawk is over there!! Lol
How about making a LOT more of these cd sets so they're not sold out in minutes and only available for $1000 on Ebay in a week? Squirrel!!!
How many times can I "thumbs up" this? Not need to give their music away but $1000 for the Mosque 77 show or UCLA 73 is just out of reach for most fans who for whatever circumstance missed out on first dibs. I would even argue for reissuing all the Dave's Picks. Demand would be strong (worth it on the bottom line) and fans would be thrilled. EBay not so much, but hey.
Subscribe?
I can hear the eagle!
Primal 10/11/77 should be re-released as a standalone show. That show smokes!
Maybe I can wish the Longshot and beg, steal, or pray that the earlier and less numerous Dave's Picks releases get a second release of those shows. Not every year was I working when the subscriptions were on sale and family didn't always catch on to the gift suggestion or decided on other stuff that wasn't really what I needed. Some of the last couple of years saw larger numbers released but just missed the cut-off dates. Sure would like a Swing Auditorium copy to replace my old cassettes especially considering I no longer own a tape deck. I could go on to wish that multi-venue box sets get the Europe 72 treatment though I only ended up with half of those, not counting 100 year hall or similar 1990s releases or old cassette or CD "bootlegs". I'd love box set re-releases too, not because I'm a pitiful fool or referring to periods of not able to work but because I threw money on tix, transportation, hotel/camping, etc. I would be fine with not being blessed with bonus discs or other goodies. If there ever comes a day when "Bear's choice" type product was legal then I'd argue or wrestle an angel and dwarf for that. Sure regret missing Winterland box sets, first Spring 90 set, and hoping to still acquire 5-9-77 and Jai Alai Fronton from 74. All had great boards of at one time except the last was only a tinny audience cassette or 2. C'mom Dave, I'm good for it.😁🙃🙃😉
I'll trade you a sealed Dave's Miami 74 for a Dave's Colgate 77.
Dave, generally speaking where are you in this video? It's beautiful.
When the last bolt of sunshine hits the mountain
And the stars start to splatter in the sky
When the moon splits the southwest horizon
With the scream of an eagle on the fly
QUESTION: Why do the Dead keep releasing CD's in HDCD format? I don't think that there is a single manufacturer left that still makes CD players that can decode HDCD. Is it some sort of legal requirement? The only way now is to buy a Berkeley Audio DAC-- that start at $10,000. I own an Oppo 105 that still does the decoding, but it's almost 10 years old now.
Becaus why not? There has to be a few more DACs that decode it. Parasound has one I think…but I just searched around and you’re right, there doesn’t seem to be many products left that do. I had an Oppo also. Id love to hear a Berkeley reference one day… There is software decoding for computer audio. I believe a DAC after it will see it as 24bit. ?
@@mkwilson38 I'm still not sure why GD still issues CD's in HDCD. Must be a legal thing-- maybe years ago they signed a deal with Pacific Microsonics (guys went on to found Berkeley Audio, there is a connection) that they had to do all releases in HDCD. Why not in CD and SACD? Many more SACD players out there. Maybe the GD should put their name on an HDCD player produced by Berkeley Audio or some other manufacturer. NO ONE makes HDCD players anymore! I would love to own a Berkeley DAC, but their most recent release-- the Alpha 3-- is 10K. And then you'd have to buy a transport as well...
@@Fred-ql3gq im a fan of transport and separate DAC. A used alpha 1 maybe? But there are so many new model DACs, around that same used $$, that will sound better overall. DACs have really improved a lot over say just the past 5 years. Tough to look backwards just for HDCD decoding.
@@Fred-ql3gq Oh, I just thought of a possible reason! Most other GD releases come as a file format, as well as CD. And you can choose to purchase 24bit. But with Daves Picks being the CD only release, the HDCD decoding is a way to have the (slightly) higher bit option. Just a thought but who knows…
@@mkwilson38 Yup I get it. I prefer to own the physical media. Should probably go the download route and get the 24 bit-- but I'm not there yet. Old school.
hey dave----lurch here----how about 1989 -----trucken off to buffello,,, see on the farm,,,PEACE
hello can i grab your logo greatful dead..?
Let’s face it, I was so high on drugs and ETOH, it all sounded good to me.😩
High Time! NFA 65-95!!!
Be grateful to The Grateful Dead, while you are alive. If you disagree, then you are a great fool.
You can tell Dave got the jab.
You are such a dude I would rather not hang out with. Jerry is glad about that.
So it's all about the MONEY - what a shame.
Why is a boxer talking about the Grateful Dead?
stoned
🤍✨Beautiful 🦅
You do all we do" What the fuck do you exactly do?
m s im sorta soned man
Love the music but The Dead & Slow shakedown shows are killing the vibe. The last straw was the Scamming In The Sand debacle.
I love these videos. A great way to announce new music.
