You know, this really is refreshing… I mean, sure, I'm your friend, so I'm naturally going to be a bit biased. But even if I didn't know you, it is so nice to come across a video on UA-cam or otherwise where someone is being this honest and genuinely transparent while talking about the same feelings all of us have dealt with or are dealing with. Having someone put it into words we all relate to, really helps the rest of us feel less alone in our personal insecurities and doubts. It's cathartic, I find it comforting in a world devoid of that kind of willingness to be openly vulnerable. We have Tabletop Alchemy, who needs therapy! 😂🥰🤗
When I was in college, one of my teachers told us that when proofreading Virginia Wolfe (I think, it's been a while since I was in college) was known to rearrange the pages to be out of order and walk around her house reading the work out loud to catch mistakes. That has stuck with me whenever I work on something I am writing.
Reading out loud is a great trick I’ve found to work well too! I never considered rearranging the pages I bet that would help for fast turnaround editing. 🍻
Q: Are you planning/have the budget/resources to do the whole thing with detailed storyboards almost shot by shot/scene by scene, or will you have to «cut down» on that to only key scenes or sequences that might need super tight choreography, blocking and specific shots to really hit the mark?
That’s a good question. I would like to storyboard all the big scenes and difficult sequences, more if necessary. I don’t work with boards hardly ever but this project would be important to do so. I’d actually use them like the teaser animatic too to give me some sense of the editing timing. There’s some cinematography software that would let me do 3d boards that I’d like to check out too
@@tabletopalchemy Cool :) Looking forward to seeing how you approach that aspect and the software to «stage» visual scenes and the insights which will be gained from doing that :)
Show me a man who doesn't make mistakes and I'll show you a man that doesn't do anything. In my early years I took criticism defensively and personally. It took me until my early 30s to move on from it being personal. In most cases the feedback was needed for me to be a better professional in my field, running factories. I couldn't do everything and some tasks were in areas I definitely wasn't skilled in but I needed to be able to be competent in them. Look at the feedback evaluate it for what it is, feedback, and remember that you can't please all of the people all of the time. Have fun, I respect your talent.
I like having the criticism and feedback be read by a third party and sanitized and made into a list of points to look into or points that label something as satisfactory.
Reading is fun for me, I knock out a book a night. Guess that is why at the age of pushing 60 my library is at a little over 8,000 books. All read by yours truly.I am quite shure you screen play will be great. Fingers crossed and once again just loving the show. You just never know what great wisdom you will receive.😂
I'm not a nervous person, don't really get anxious BUT I know this feeling, I'm writing a pen & paper rpg, sending it out for the first time was so stressful. Playing it with people not in my main rpg group was sweat inducing to say the least. Looking forward to seeing how this goes for sure.
@@tabletopalchemy So far so good, seems to be some interest out there in the gaming world, even had a publisher look at it and say it was good, we shall see.
I'm sure that anyone who made something for public consumption has these feelings, and yes, it's like seeing the forest for the trees. However, in the name of progress, you might be overlooking something; this part's done. You will soon understand what needs to be done after the readers send feedback; this is good and important as it gets you out of your own head. Most people do not even get to this point, having never started. While the creep of imposter syndrome can arise from intense interior and exterior criticism, especially when it comes to a first project, you've done or seen aspects of projects like this. You're doing new things, seeing things from a different POV of project development, in a word, growing, and that's good. So, falter, fumble, bumble, and make mistakes when taking this risk; just keep moving the ball forward. Congratulations!
Sort of live commenting as I watch here ;) But yeah, that whole «finish one thing» before doing other, totally relatable, I have 15-ish video ideas for my own videos, and can’t do any of them before I get this one specific idea I have out «on tape» and edited and published … and it is *blocking* stuff for real, even when stuff I could have done within a couple of days gets pushed to finish this other thing :/
@@tabletopalchemy Yeah, and it feels great - but I do wish I was more able to just partially work on even the bigger ones, switching between the blockers and the others, cause it would allow for a better flow, less procrastination and a more regular output over time switching between releasing the shorter vids and longer vids :) It’s just that I *hate* working on things over long stretches of time ;)
It’s always hard to send your children out into the world, it’s the bravest thing to do. Creatively has a lot of inbuilt pain and fear, it’s because you care about it. Stand tall man, you wrote something, that’s amazing 👍🏼. People may tell you to kill some of your babies, but if it’s right , you will find you agree. 👍🏼
Hey, just getting a screenplay done is a big accomplishment (and worth much beer)! Taking feedback and criticism, listening to the constructive parts, and not bothering with that which isn't, is a skill (though I don't think it's found in the Ranger Skills list- maybe contact Joe McCullough about the next supplement- +2 to all criticism rolls and you get a better chance of earning experience points or something, I don't know). Anyway, it looks like you have developed that skill well. Congratulations!
Profanity counter would be helpful when submitting for MPAA rating. Infamously, PG-13 allows for one f-bomb; hence the meme about where it should have gone in the Lord of the Rings movies.
Self doubt can be a thing, I know it. But a process helps me. Just heard a good one the other day. if the 'short-cut' was the way, it'd be called, THE WAY. My question on the FD software - does it check for trade marks or copyrights on the names? Glad to be on this journey with you. Even if it is vicariously. Was a tourist last week. So will go back and watch that episode now. Cheers.
Right about the short cut lol. FD does not check that stuff in fact filmmakers have to purchase something called Errors and Omissions insurance that does that 🍻
You are getting that ball rolling. Now things will go one of two ways. Either things will go smooth or Either things will bump around like a steel ball in a pinball machine. Sometimes you just have to get the critique bad or good and roll with it. Radio is a bit simpler. When any of us on the air has to produce a commercial it has to be produced fast. That's the norm. The client wants in on the air ASAP. Most of the changes get made later if the client wants it changed. That does not mean it's good. I'm happy if things just work. I do hope things go well and smooth for you and the rest of the crew. There will always be people that will be detractors. Just look at them. Give a slight grin with a bit of eye glint and say "That's Nice" Seriously Good Luck!. I will buy tickets.
