    What is ASMR? It is both a sensation and a medium.
    ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response and is the current, non-scientific name given to the feeling characterized as a pleasurable tingling sensation felt in the head, scalp, back and other regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and/or cognitive stimuli, such as crinkling bags, hand movements, whispering, personal attention or watching someone perform a task. It's like goosebumps, but much more pleasant.
    ASMR videos are meant to intentionally help induce this sensation, also referred to as "tingles", but also provide a relaxing, calming, soothing, therapeutic and even entertaining experience for the viewer.
    Many people who do not experience ASMR still enjoy the videos for their calming and sleepy effect.

    • @jessicalandwehr1850
      @jessicalandwehr1850 7 років тому +3

      Molly M if you aren't comfortable talking about being deaf I completely understand, however I am interested. were you born deaf or did something happen? and is there a "legally deaf" like there is legally blind? like, hearing impaired so much it's declared deafness when they can, in fact, hear some things?
      again if you don't want to talk about it I understand! I really don't want to pressure you into anything you wouldn't normally like to do! I'm just terribly uneducated on the subject and I'm only now realizing it! sorry to bother!

    • @mollym4384
      @mollym4384 7 років тому +5

      Jessica Landwehr
      Actually, I'd love to :) It's no bother at all. I love sharing with people. And those are awesome questions.
      I wasn't born Deaf. I started losing my hearing when I was 10 years old. It was due to an allergy to a medicine I was given. Because of that medicine, I have lost a fair amount of my hearing. I wear hearing aids when ever I am about town, but at home, my family and I use ASL (American Sign Language) to communicate. Because I didn't lose my hearing until I was 10, I can speak more easily than some others who are Deaf. I can't hear myself well, but I know how the sounds are suppose to sound and feel in my throat and lips, if that makes any sense.
      And yes, Legally Deaf is a thing. I am in fact, Legally Deaf. I can hear somethings in certain ranges if I have my hearing aids in. It's harder for me to hear most vocal ranges, but there are a few, like my fiance, or my father, that I can hear, because they are so low.
      If you ever want to know more, I'd be glad to talk :) I hope this answered some of your question. Have a good day :)

    • @EphemeralRift
      @EphemeralRift  7 років тому +13

      Well thanks, Molly, I'm glad to hear it worked for you! Sorry to hear about your hearing loss. If it's any consolation I've lost the hearing in my left ear due to an Acoustic Neuroma that I was diagnosed with in 2010, so I can somewhat relate. Wish you all my best!

    I really like the hand movement videos - especially the movements that have then hand come in towards the camera. This is especially noticeable when you alternate which hand/side you are using - if I get any tingles it's just on the side the hand movement is on.
    The blazer sounds really help too - more like wave sounds than white noise due to the staggered movements.
    I think the most relaxing part of this, for me, is the softly spoken description of what you are doing. It's not unlike art programs (Didn't see Bob Ross until recently, but used to love watching art programs when I was a kid). There is something quite enthralling about someone calmly describing what they are doing.

    Those motions right around 10:05 were incredible and strongly triggered my ASMR! My eyes were getting dry the whole time because I didn't want to blink and miss anything. Your hands move so steadily, which makes it even better.

    At 10 minutes in (I want to comment before I potentially fall asleep) every hand movement at that point is great! I'd say as long as the movement is smooth and slow it works

    Let me first say... Thank You! Right now I'm sick as sick gets and the meds I'm on has sort of given me a tingle immunity. To be honest it has almost blocked all ASMR goodness period. No relaxation or anything BUT when I tell you them hands broke thru that wall the medicine had placed I'm not kidding! Thank you sir this felt good!! 😍

    This vid was stellar. I'm a new subscriber and this video and "A Bowl of Rice" were great. As for particular gestures that worked well: pulling string, waving hands that crossed in front of one another, miming, and anything close to the camera. Thank you for all your work and your wonderful sense of humor.
