  • The 6.0 Powerstroke Excursion teardown continues! Full Engine Teardown time! Time to figure out what failed and why, and what all needs fixed / replaced / upgraded on the engine rebuild.
With a quarter of a million miles on this Diesel Excursion, we want to make absolutely sure we check all the boxes so it can get back on the road and head towards a half million miles! Unfortunately as you'll see in this Powerstroke 6.0 took some damage, but, can it be fixed? 6.0 Powerstroke build ahead!

It's going to be a couple weeks for the machining to get done but once it is, we'll share that phase as well. That's why we do what we do on here, showing folks a real honest shop and what goes on. Thanks for watching!

Good to see Rich back in action. I'm a Ford guy, the obs trucks are the best ever built rigs. I have to 97 w 460s. Running like new.

Though we do a whole lot of GM stuff in here and are pretty well known for it, we're definitely pretty solid Ford guys around here, ESPECIALLY when it comes to diesels and work trucks!

Thanks, these are a big job and something most shops are afraid of or incapable of doing, but around here it's just another day. Now comes the REAL work of repairing this thing and getting it back on the road!

Those 6.0 would have been a legendary motor if International had another 2 years to develop them better or if folks did preventative maintenance. Those Excursion diesel’s are the best! Well worth the investment and get another 200k miles

yeah! 250k on 6.0s is usually Injector time! Also seen a few 6.0s where a lifter will shit out its needle bearings into the lpop around that milage. One of my 6.0s Cracked an injector tip and luckily didn't damage the piston or walls But looked like someone took a fuckin cutting torch to one of the valves. But it was impressive. I've also melted few pistons back when running hot smoky tune's by over fueling and spoofing the icp was once thought to be the easiest and best way to get basically 600hp on only bigger injectors and studded motor. lol

What is the average cost to do a total rebuild like you guys are doing and I love your videos they’re great

Ohhh that's a loaded question to ask! Depending on what we find, what needs replaced, and what the status of supporting parts are? Somewhere between $8-20k. It can really range. But, at the end of it you've got a very solid motor that will get you hundreds of thousands of miles. Pretty attractive option versus what new diesel trucks are going for these days.

That's a strange configuration with the aluminum HPOP with 05 style oil rails.

Don't worry we'll replace the air filter while we're in there, no additional labor charge! ;)

wouldnt it make more sense to just buy another engine from a reman company than mess with that junk

In theory yes but if you’ve ever looked inside a “remanufactured” engine nowadays you will see shoddy workmanship. Quite literally kids out of high school slapping them together. They don’t GAF if it lasts 10 minutes. I know Jasper warranty’s their engine’s for like 30k miles but the problem is once you have a warranty claim they will send you a replacement sure. But labor is not included and also there is NO warranty on the replacement engine. Customer’s find that out the hard way all of the time. The only viable solution would be to purchase a brand new engine like “BluePrint” casts brand new blocks and tests every single engine on a Dyno. I’m not sure if there is a 6.0 option out there. Very few parts fail on these engines but when they do it’s easily $10k 💵 🪟
