Followed along this morning when I caught this video with a simple straw phonation exercise (pint of water and a long draw) and found it to be a beautiful way to gently wake up ones voice for whatever your going to do with it all day. :) Thanks Doc! 💥😎💥

You could try recording yourself with a smartphone. You would then review, adjust, and improve.

Nothing on breath control. An absolute beginner MUST learn how to breath FIRST, before he or she can even start singing.

Doctor Dan has lots of breathing technique videos on his channel, so I encourage everyone to check them out - He’s a very trustworthy singing instructor

My point is, an 'absolute beginner' doesn't often know anything about breath control. And its vital they do as its the FOUNDATION for singing, wouldnt you say?
Not trying to tell anyone off or anything (everything else in the vid was brill), just saying its really important that singers learn breath control FIRST, or their singing will be greatly negatively effected.

I agree that breath is foundational to good singing. But my twenty-seven years of teaching experience has led me to understand that most people want to make some noise before they work on their breath. Interestingly, if you learned to sing during the late eighteenth, early nineteenth century, it was likely that you would have spent months (sometimes years) only breathing before even a single note was sung. Fortunately, we now understanding that we don't have to wait for our breathing to be perfect before we start singing.

@@DrDanRobinson Totally agree with you Dan. I've made the same observations in my teaching.
