  • Renowned mathematician and philosopher Dr. John Lennox explores the question of whether God can send someone to Hell who is born outside the Christian faith. Challenging the narrow view of salvation, Dr. Lennox examines biblical perspectives and the diversity of human spiritual experiences to present a more expansive and compassionate view of God's plan for salvation.

I would like a chance to answer this
According to God's mercy he does not impute sin where sin is not done
    Then Jesus died for all
Since Jesus is LORD of the quick and the dead
When a soul stands before him
He has the authority to offer to the unheard a chance of redemption
If the unheard is willing then Jesus could send that soul before justice and faith
    Then all have a chance
As Jesus hung on the cross he died for every soul
    Even the unheard

Wouldn't a scripture or two give legitimacy to the explanation.
Here is something that may help.
(Ecclesiastes 9:5) For the living know that they will die, BUT THE DEAD KNOW NOTHING AT ALL nor do they have any more reward, because all memory of them is forgotten.
Those who die cannot stand or go anywhere. They cease to exist. Only a resurrection can bring the dead back into existence. God resurrected Jesus back into existence. Acts 2:32.
Jesus' death covers all humans no doubt.
Since acceptance of Jesus' ransom sacrifice is mandatory for everlasting life (John 3:6), what about those who died prior to Jesus' coming. Say, Noah, Abraham, Moses and David.
      Ever given it a thought.

If they have not heard about Christ and come to Him in repentance and forgiveness of sin of not knowing Him then if they belive trust and obey and follow Him then they are saved being born again .. otherwise it's what God's word says in Jude " snatch them from fire "..

The question then becomes what is the purpose of punishment? Is it purely retribution (timoria) or is it restorative (kolasis). On Mt 25 the phrase eternal punishment (aionias kolasis) is better translated the chastisement of that age and not punishment that goes on forever. The word eternal (aionias) is not primarily a quality rather than a quantity or duration.

Nobody chooses to exist. If there is equity in God's plan, than there must be an option to simply cease to exist at physical death. Since I never wanted to exist, and would never have chosen to exist, I want simply to cease to exist at death.

    • @walkercresswell1721
      @walkercresswell1721 4 місяці тому +1

God’s equity comes in letting you choose to live your life with him or separate from him and he will honor that choice. Life is a gift, and you are right that you didn’t choose to exist, but that is not something that you have agency to choose. Life is something you have the will to choose over. That is exactly what hell is in the Bible, it is death because God is life, and you choose to live your life separate from life. Also, the point about never wanting to exist doesn’t matter because you have no control over existing and can’t change the fact that you do exist. The reason you have two options is because, in light of the fact that you exist even without wanting to, you, me, and everyone has sinned against God and we are all destined for judgement against an infinitely holy and just God with infinite authority, we are destined for an infinite punishment of separation from God and all which aligns with God and his nature (life, good, etc.). But Jesus died for our sins and offered reconciliation so that are sins, which are choosing a path separate from God, are covered and we can live in unity with God.

God is our creator and has “creator-rights” over us and all His creation. We don’t decide the terms of equity, only God can. This is His world. We have to understand that the universe is like a peanut in God’s pocket and for us to say that we have any right to tell God what’s wrong and right contrary to his word is lunacy. God sets the terms. And he demands perfect obedience from His creatures. The problem is that we have all sinned and broken God’s law. Including you and including me. And because God just He must punish sinners and the punishment for sin is Hell. BUT God is His mercy and grace sent His only son into the world to save sinners by becoming a substitutionary sacrifice on our behalf, and paying our debt to a holy God by dying on the cross and bearing God’s wrath. And three days late He rose from the dead. If you simply repent and trust in Christ alone for salvation, He will wash away your sins and give you the free gift of salvation!

Jesus mentions the story of Lazandar and a rich man. When the beggar Lazandar dies, he is hell too but in a comforting place where Abraham is while the rich man is in another place of hell where there is a divide. The rich man never got a compassion heart when he was rich on earth and he won't be resurrected but will become the bad fruit.

Certainly, there is nothing wrong with asking questions. But the answer isn't necessarily in knowing the actual answer to the question. The answer is understanding the character of God. God of all eternity came as a man through humility, humbled himself, and was obedient to death on the cross. The nature of God is loving, proved by his death. I dont have to have an answer to what happens to the person in the jungle. I know the nature of God, which is merciful and loving and just and his heart is that he doesnt want anyone to perish. Like Abraham said to God regarding Sodom and Gomorrah, "Will not the judge of all the earth do what is right". Nothing wrong with saying, "I dont know, but I do know the character of God and whatever interaction there is between these people and God, He will treat them justly and fairly.

      @PBAdventures146 4 місяці тому +1

@@skippy675 Regarding life, certainly it is not fair in many aspects and as a result it can be difficult to live or even want to live. It wasn't fair when my mom left our family for another man when I was a young teen, my youngest brother only 11. It wasn't fair that after 22yrs of being married myself to a person who had been abused in her childhood, that she left me when I've done everything in my limited power to love and to help her overcome her brokenness. Now I am supporting 4 children on my own. Certainly I look at myself and say what have I done wrong and yet all the other women around me are confused as to how she could leave a guy that's raised well rounded model children and protected her and provided for her for 22yrs. She came from a 3rd world country and I helped her become a citizen and in many ways helped her grow into adulthood. It's not fair. But it is life, and while I can't control those around me or even my own circumstances all the time, I can trust God that his promise in Romans 8:28 will come true. And I've even seen glimpses of good that has come through an unfair situation. As a result I speak a language that helps others in similar situations find hope, help & healing.
Job experienced a very familiar feeling as you did where he literally loathed the day he was born. But he also landed on though the Lord slay him yet Job was going to trust in him. Because Job trusted in the Character of God when he couldn't understand what in the world was going on. And the Bible records the end of his life and how God turned it around for him. We can't control our birth but if we are here, then God has a purpose for our lives. He can take the ashes of our lives and make something beautiful from them if we let him. And the fair and just treatment is, if we surrender our lives to the Lord, when we do die, we will experience joy peace and all the pleasurable things we hope for in this life in ways we could have never imagined.
I have a gold fish in a smaller fish bowl than what I prefer, but that's where it is. About every 3 days I have to change out it's water or else it will die from lack of oxygen. The way I do it is, I empty all the water while it's in the fish bowl until it's just in there flopping around. Then I reach in a grab it and put it in a small container of fresh water until I clean and fill the bowl back up again and then put it back in. For a few moments, if that fish could think, by every appearance I am trying to kill it. I am completely putting in an environment without water that would in fact kill it if it were to stay for any length of time. It jumps around for a few seconds and then when it stops, I carefully gently take hold of it and put it in the fresh water. It thinks I'm trying to kill it when in reality, I am actually trying to save it's life. But in order for me to do that, I have to put it in a vulnerable position for a period of time until I can give it fresh water to continue to live.
Life is very often like that. Life can be so difficult that it literally feels like we are dying, or want to die. I just told you about my marriage, and not the few other things equally difficult that are happening at the same time. There have been days where I literally wanted and thought I was dying. I landed in the ER because I thought I was having a heart attack over Christmas, and it was just stress related. Why does God do that to us? To you? Because it's through the difficulty of life where we feel like dying and don't want to live, that if we put our trust in God, He will sustain us and give us eternal life. And through us letting go, he carries us through our trials, and we learn how to find joy and desire to live even in the struggle. That silly fish flops around in the bottom of the jar trying to save itself and I can't grab it. The moment it stops fighting on it's own, is when I can rescue it and get it to where it needs to be which is fresh cool water.
I'm sorry that life has apparently been a complete disappointment for you! I don't know what you are going through, but I certainly had higher aspirations for my life. But I can see the good that has come of it. The maturity that it has brought to my life. The love and selflessness that I've given to my kids to protect them from the harsh reality of a broken family, and now, others seek for me to help them. God can use your circumstances to bring you to a place where you trust him and find out that there is purpose in the pain. Your life has eternal value so much so God died for you and for me, and if you trust God, one day when you meet him, you will realize it was all worth it. Because like you, heaven is not what I seek either. I seek Jesus. Heaven is just a by product of wherever Jesus is.
I've already prayed for you and I hope my humble response helps.

@PBAdventures146 kinda crazy set of coincidences here. I am also married to a woman from a 3rd world country. She was basically abandoned by her parents and raised by a grandparent. We struggled to have kids for quilted a while, finally discovered she had cancer. Went through over a year if treatment via 6 rounds of chemo that almost killed her (kinda the point of chemo) but she ultimately survived stage 4 cancer. Throw in an ectopic pregnancy after that, consults with doctors, more doctors, more doctors and ultimately 5 attempts at IVF which resulted in our 3 children (from anonymous egg donor). Yes, it was grueling for her, even for me. Never thought about leaving her. We racked up so much debt that it's not even funny.
Now, after all of this, she wants to leave me and split up the family because she feels I don't pay enough attention to her. I am literally crushed by the stress of trying to figure out how to keep afloat with all the debt. I haven't gone the route of just give up, become a burden on the taxpayers and forget about it. I think she despises me for not doing what so many do and simply taking advantage of every freebie and handout available.
So yeah, I kind of get it. However, I don't expect fairness nor am I looking for a magical panacea or promise of better things to come. I am just simply exhausted.
I won't give up on my kids or my wife. I think there is value in sticking to it for the kids sake. I think we can fall into the trap of grass is always greener elsewhere.
All this said. It would be so blissful, so perfect, peaceful and so blissful to simply fade out and have that be it.
I see no evidence that there is anything beyond this physical life. At one point I did. I was a Christian missionary when I met my wife. My life was literally dedicated to spreading the good news, the gospel. I used to tell others some of the same things you just told me here in this chat.
How very cruel indeed would it be though for a loving creator to put us here just to pass a credulity test? How very manipulative to design us with senses that give incomplete information, then urge us via text message to "lean not on your own understanding" or whatever (Proverbs I think).
From birth onward, I now see that everything I took in and observed and tested out as my little mind and body developed was to test patterns. To learn who to trust. Scripture tells us to ignore the sum total of all experiences (the ones you were ostensibly designed to process in a certain way) and trust instead in "the promise of things hoped for, the conviction in things yet unseen" or whatever it is.
If this is the test. I fail. I fail without shame or embarrassment or regret because every fiber within me screams that this is a gaslighting scam. If God were really the inspiration of the Bible, would he need to so often sprinkle in words to the effect of "only the fool doesn't believe".
Rambled enough. I understand why people believe. I understand why I and many others don't. If I came to the wrong conclusion, I know that I have done so through honest inquiry and pursuit of truth.

@@skippy675 You and I both know there are no coincidences. Our lives didn't cross by accident. As I read your response, I could feel the sadness and utter discouragement that I've felt so many times. 22yrs of hell on earth feeling like you're always losing no matter how hard you try. Looking in the mirror day after day wondering what I am doing wrong, trying to give my spouse the benefit of the doubt thinking it must be me, only to arrive at the same conclusions. To this day, I can't help but feel like maybe I've done something wrong, even though my piers, those in leadership at my church have walked closely with me and told me that it's not me. Of course it eventually came to a head less than two years ago when she told me she was pregnant with another man's baby. After she wouldn't sleep with me for years. Then she nearly bled to death with a miscarriage, I rushed her to the hospital. Then paid off her emergency bill and racked up more debt. And it still wasn't good enuogh. All the while that is happening, I end up leaving the church I've attended for 25yrs and was a leader in because of some major issues, and going to leave my job of 23yrs because for the last 7 it was hell on earth and I just couldn't handle everything crashing around me at one time... I understand what you mean when you say exhausted... I would roll over in bed in the morning and loath being alive, no desire, terrbily tired, from sleeping on a couch because I let my adulterous wife sleep in our bed. Day after day, just stairing out the car window trying to find some motivation to actually live before I headed off to a job that was nothing but stressful and ugly.
I'm so sorry that you're going through what you are! I write this with tears.. because I know how it feels. I know the pain. I know the hopelessness, I know the uncertainty, especially for the kids. I know the confusion. By no means am I out of the woods even close yet. Work is finally looking up, when I was at my very end, God changed my circumstances in a day. honestly a miraculous story. But still have tons of debt, still have a broken marriage I'm trying to deal with. But God is good. There is nothing I can tell you that you probably don't already know. But maybe just maybe the Lord allowed our paths to cross to help encourage you and remind you of a couple things. First, our journey is a journey of faith. Abraham died "not having received the promise". But he died in faith and has since received what was promised to him. Along the same thought, you and I know we live in a world of sin. And with sin has come every heart ache pain and atrocity that has ravaged this earth. We are not exempt from it's strangle hold on the world. But God uses our pain not as a way to make us worthy of heaven, but to transform us so that we have reward for our faithfulness through trials when we get to heaven. Don't forget the Bible says he can sympathize with our weakness. He was beaten beyond recognition and crucified for us. He bore our grief and carried our sorrows. God is no man's debtor and all of your sorrow will not be forgotten or lost. Your tears, my tears are precious to him and he will not waste or forget a single tear we've shed in our pain. One day he said he will wipe ALL our tears away.
I've seen alot of sorrow in my life apart from what I've even experienced. Right now a very close friend is dying of color cancer, from 192lbs to less than 120.. a wife and 3 kids, one being a baby. He puts my faith to shame. Used to be an alcoholic and nearly lost his marriage. It's not an issue anymore. And his wife has been his biggest fan. I used to counsel them for their marriage.... because of my own experience I had something to offer and he credits me with saving their marriage. It wasn't me, It was Christ in me as I was decreasing through trials and Christ was increasing in influence in me and through me. 2.5yrs ago now, my brother, 5yrs younger than me with a wife and 4 kids dies from a brain tumor that he fought for two years through 2 brain surgeries. Within a year of my brother getting his tumor my "wife's" uncle who we were very close to got the same exact brain tumor and died a year ago. He was just barely a grandpa for the first time. My brother was as involved in church ministry as he could be. He loved the Lord deeply. I watched him lead 27 people to Christ in a single night from one message. He was going places and he had a gift. An amazing voice... and 2yrs later he is dead. He loved the Lord right up to his death. Just a week or so before he died, I worshiped with him and he couldn't even talk, but he tried to grunt out the words as I sang with him. Pain in life is real. I know, and I am sick to my stomach for you, in tears as I write this. But you can't give up on God. He hasn't given up on you and your kids, or your wife and he sees your devotion to your kids and to even her. Trust Him and that will not go on unrewarded in this life and especially the next.
Now I'm the one rambling on and I'm sorry for that, but hopefully I can encourage you alittle bit with this one story. About a month ago, I was with my boss as we were going over some things that were REALLY bad with the company, I was supposed to have owned by now incidentally. I was at the end and was about ready to blow a cork, and he could tell. I told him, I can't do this anymore. There literally didnt' appear to be a glimmer of hope for the company which was my lively hood and how I supported my kids which are my life. I've never struggled with anxiety, but these last 6 months have put me on edge for sure. My trip to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack was actually probably an anxiety attack which I'd never had. But He being a fine Christian man himself said he understood but that all we could do is trust God and he would not leave us or forsake us. At the moment while I knew he was right, the words felt very empty. In less than a week, our whole circumstance had changed from a source we would have NEVER imagined the night we were talking just a few short days earlier. Remember Paul and Silas in a dungeon for trying to preach Gods word as missionaries just like yourself. It was midnight, it was the darkest hour of the night and they were worshiping God...... And suddenly.... God intervened. I'm not God, I'm no prophet, But I do know the Lord can either change your circumstances for you in a second, or, he can give you the grace, strength and wisdom to help you walk out of it. Your race is not over yet, Please don't quite running!! The greatest thing you can do for your kids and wife is for them to see a man trusting God in the midst of impossible odds.
Btw.. My dad was a missionary to the eskimos back in the 80s and 90s. He used to fly the church plane up there and build churches or minister to them. He flew to the last inhabited place on earth in Northern Canada. And his wife left him for another man. But my dad never walked away from God. My one uncle was a missionary to the Philippines and another a missionary to Botswana, Africa and an aunt who was a missionary to Japan and died at 55 from a tumor... as a missionary. I have lots of respect for missionaries such as yourself. If you ever want to talk further I would be more than willing. And I promise you, you will be very much on my mind and I will be praying for you regularly!!

We are also all born with a conscience that God gave us. The bible also says that God chose where and when we would all be born. So He could have put those people who He knew would reject Him in remote tribes for instance. There are missionaries all over the world. Here is the actual answer - God ends the CHURCH ERA, The LAST DAY. When the dead all rise out of their graves. Called the RAPTURE. This day sees DEATH DEFEATED. Its not a partial rising of the dead? ! Thess 4:17, explains. The dead in Christ rise first, then we who are alive and remain are CAUGHT UP. Raptured, to Jesus. We are transformed, as flesh cannot inherit the kingdom of heaven. so WE DISAPPEAR. - we depart. LAST DAY for US. First day for you?
If you are pagan? atheists? satanists? whatever? - you are left on earth.
you lost 2 billion souls? we departed.
      But GAIN 20-30 Billions.
all the dead people who never knew JESUS are on earth, the population is trebled? this will cause FAMINE in a few months.
God has given you all a huge headache.
He has massively increased the world population. WHY? so that all men are given the same TEST.
How can God condemn 6 billion people using a MARK? and not include 20-30 billion people? that would be UNFAIR. one test for you? and another test for him?
The churches have not been thinking this through? they have hidden the bible for 1500 years. they killed men for translating it. The false church? has been gate keepers.
They don;'t want this leaked? that the real test comes after the RAPTURE. God has 2 billion Priests-kings-elders now in heaven.
      the next INTAKE is different.
Alexander the great is back on earth
Herr Hitler too. so jail him? a lot of criminals are back? warlords? armies? and it will cause havoc .
All men will ask who has raised me back to life in this scientific era? what the hell is a tv? a car? a plane? they will go nuts. and ask who is JESUS? and the 6 billion people native to this time, will have to educate them. Will have to tell them Jesus has caused this mayhem. He raised them back to life.
The bible Hints this - it gives the gaff away - here and there. like puzzle pieces. The DEAD ARE DISCLOSED UPON THE EARTH? and other small phrases.
How are you saved? only by Christ. So Alexander the Great must know Jesus. His army must know Jesus.
How are you damned? Only by taking a MARK? so does Hitler have a mark? no, he died. so must be given that opportunity.
all men are offered this mark? who are left on earth. a binary choice. Satan is doing his job. Testing humanity.
Will Alexander the Great take a mark? only HE KNOWS, with God.
TIME will tell who takes a MARK. who trusts God.

We have the conscience of the culture we grew up in, an African cannibal is told to kill and eat his enemies, a Christian is taught to love his enemies, Warrier nation is told to be at war, a jihadi believes death on the battle field in the name of Allah is a sure chance to reach heaven, a child born up among thieves learn stealing is good since it provides for the family, in Islam polygamy is good, in Buddhism killing animals is bad, so there is no universal good or bad.
No grave sin can be defined commonly for all people in all nations, that's why you need a law giver and that is what each religion provides for its followers. So, people of one religion would go to Hell for violation of religious beliefs of another religion, to have a logical base.. For eg, if the Bible says, there is salvation only in Christ, then everybody who doesn't come to Christ will end up in hell, whether its their fault or not. The same applies to other abrahamic religions like Quran and Torah. In the case of Hinduism, you need to attain enlightenment, and a release from this constant cycle of reincarnation, just because you havent heard of moksha, you dont get a free pass.

Hell at one time meant grave but morphed into a fiery place of torment as part of the hell fire doctrine. All humans when they die go to their graves and cease to exist. The bible uses Sheol and Hades for mans grave. The Grolier Universal Encyclopedia (1971, Vol. 9, p. 205) under “Hell” says: “Hindus and Buddhists regard hell as a place of spiritual cleansing and final restoration. Islamic tradition considers it as a place of everlasting punishment.” The idea of suffering after death is found among the pagan religious teachings of ancient peoples in Babylon and Egypt. Babylonian and Assyrian beliefs depicted the “nether world . . . as a place full of horrors, . . . presided over by gods and demons of great strength and fierceness.” Although ancient Egyptian religious texts do not teach that the burning of any individual victim would go on forever, they do portray the “Other World” as featuring “pits of fire” for “the damned.”-The Religion of Babylonia and Assyria, by Morris Jastrow, Jr., 1898, p. 581; The Book of the Dead, with introduction by E. Wallis Budge, 1960, pp. 135, 144, 149, 151, 153, 161, 200.

    Romans 1:18-21 NASB95
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
[19] because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.
[20] For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.
[21] For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
In short, the answer is yes. All of creation even to the tribes out in Timbuktu will be held to the same standard. Creation screams there is a Creator
    Matthew 7:7-8 NASB95
"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

*The Enuma Elish would later be the inspiration for the Hebrew scribes who created the text now known as the biblical Book of Genesis.* Prior to the 19th century CE, the Bible was considered the oldest book in the world and its narratives were thought to be completely original. In the mid-19th century CE, however, European museums, as well as academic and religious institutions, sponsored excavations in Mesopotamia to find physical evidence for historical corroboration of the stories in the Bible. ***These excavations found quite the opposite, however, in that, once cuneiform was translated, it was understood that a number of biblical narratives were Mesopotamian in origin.***
*Famous stories such as the Fall of Man and the Great Flood were originally conceived and written down in Sumer,* translated and modified later in Babylon, and reworked by the Assyrians ***before they were used by the Hebrew scribes for the versions which appear in the Bible.***
***In revising the Mesopotamian creation story for their own ends, the Hebrew scribes tightened the narrative and the focus but retained the concept of the all-powerful deity who brings order from chaos.*** Marduk, in the Enuma Elish, establishes the recognizable order of the world - *just as God does in the Genesis tale* - and human beings are expected to recognize this great gift and honor the deity through service.

On the one hand, I can certainly see how the passages John cites here could be interpreted to support his points. On the other hand, I can't help but notice that he completely ignored that part of the bible that tells us there is no way to god but through christ. This does not seem open to interpretation in my view and it's disingenuous for someone of John's learning not to bring it up. Also, if there is a truly omniscient god (I'm agnostic) then everything is predetermined and we do not have free will only an illusion of free will and god has decided who goes to heaven and who goes to hell so, in fact, it is god sending people one way or the other. I would like to believe and have faith in christ, unfortunately those that speak for god don't do a very good job of it.

you will hate this answer. God raises all the dead to life at the rapture. The christian dead disappear in a flash. the dead all are disclosed. upon the earth. so if you calculate? it might be 20-30 billion people are going to arrive on earth. all the dead. see isaiah 26.18. - so we are gone. the population actually goes up. a trebling. in a few months, food shortages worldwide. Try feeding 20-30 billion people. Now who died ? say you are Genghis Khan? you will ask - who has raised me back to life on earth? and people will say - its the rapture. we thought it was made up? but Jesus actually did it. Ghengis can read a bible. Or get one of his men to read it. He gets to know Jesus. Maybe watches tv-movies. there is a vast amount of media. So now all pagans-atheists-etc. can be offered a choice. Jesus or Satan. take a mark?
Revelation 14-9 states that only if you take a MARK can you be damned. So has Ghengis a mark? he died centuries ago? nope. But if he is restored , he has a choice. He has a small amount of time to know JESUS - God.
does the bible suppot my mad theory? yes, scripture supports it. its not supported by mainstream church commentaries. they are all in tune, with Catholic viewpoints formed over centuries.
So why do people hate it? It gives people like Hitler a second chance? But i doubt Hitler is going to accept Christ. Power mad dictators are not going to like Jesus.
      God reaches every man.
We are chosen out of many. selected. while the rest are shown mercy. God is revealed to all men. FULL DISCLOSURE. PROOF is given to them. We only had faith.
so now all men, get the full facts. They know death is defeated. they know God is JEsus. But do they want Jesus. They want DEATH? that is what they all want. They like wars. They like sin. they do not want God? a few will choose Jesus. the majority want life on earth. Each man is given the same test. WIll you take a MARK? O. oo. Will you place it on your head. and so God's judgement is simplified. He merely looks at their heads. GUILTY. anyone that says no mark? gets killed. SO all those that took a mark abandon Jesus. They serve Satan. They sign up to the last world empire.

Those who have never heard of Jesus will be resurrected in the second resurrection just like those who had heard of Jesus and were never converted, which is the overwhelming majority of humans to ever have breathed life on earth(Ezekiel 37, Revelation 20). According to the general consensus of scholarship *(even critical Christian scholars),* YHWH was originally incorporated into the Canaanite pantheon as a son of the Canaanite high god El before inheriting the top spot in the pantheon and El's wife Athirat (Asherah) before religious reforms "divorced" them. El's pantheon in Ugarit (modern day Ras Shamra in Syria) is called the *Elohim,* literally the plural of El. Interestingly, the Biblical god is also referred to numerous times as Elohim. If you want to see if El is fictional, just read his mythology in the Ugaritic/Canaanite texts.
"The mysterious Ugaritic text Shachar and Shalim tells how (perhaps near the beginning of all things) *El* came to shores of the sea and saw two women who bobbed up and down. *El* was sexually aroused and took the two with him, killed a bird by throwing a staff at it, and roasted it over a fire. He asked the women to tell him when the bird was fully cooked, and to then address him either as husband or as father, for he would thenceforward behave to them as they called him. They saluted him as husband. He then lay with them, and they gave birth to Shachar ("Dawn") and Shalim ("Dusk"). Again *El* lay with his wives and the wives gave birth to "the gracious gods", "cleavers of the sea", "children of the sea". The names of these wives are not explicitly provided, but some confusing rubrics at the beginning of the account mention the goddess *Athirat (Asherah),* who is otherwise *El's* chief wife, and the goddess Raḥmayyu ("the one of the womb"), otherwise unknown."
*"First, a god named El predates the arrival of the Israelites into Syria-Palestine.* Biblical usage shows El was not just a generic noun, but often a proper name for Israel’s God (e.g., Gen 33:20: “El, the God of Israel”)."
"I should add here that it is very clear from the grammar that the noun nachalah in v. 9 should be translated “inheritance.” *Yahweh receives Israel as his “inheritance” (nachalah), just as the other sons of El received their nations as their inheritance (nachal, v. 8).* With this verb, especially in the Hiphil, the object is always what is being given as an inheritance. Thus, Israel is given to Yahweh as his inheritance. ((Here I’m indebted to Dan McClellan.)) It would make no sense for Elyon to give himself an inheritance. Moreover, as I’ve argued elsewhere, it is not just the Gentile nations that are divided up according to the number of the *sons of El.* It is all of humankind, i.e., “the sons of Adam.” This clearly includes Israel. And the sons of Adam are not divided up according to the number of the *sons of El,* plus one (i.e., plus Elyon). They are divided up, according to the text, *solely* according to the number of the *sons of El.* *Thus, that Yahweh receives Israel as his inheritance makes Yahweh one of the sons of El mentioned in v. 8. Any other construal of the text would constitute its rewriting.*
A Sumerian hymn speaks to the goddess: “Nanshe, your divine powers are not matched by any other divine powers.” *Does this mean that Nanshe was the high goddess, that there were no gods above her? No, it does not.* Nanshe was the daughter of Enki, the high god. *In Sumerian mythology, as with Ugaritic, Israelite, Babylonian, and others, in the ancient past, the high god (Enki, in this case) divided up the world and assigned his children certain domains.* Nanshe was given a limited domain (the modern Persian Gulf) and was tasked with maintaining social justice there. *This is exactly what we see in Deuteronomy 32 with Yahweh. Yahweh is given a limited domain (Israel) and is given authority over his people, to punish them, as well as to protect and defend them against foreign enemies.* That Yahweh, like Nanshe, is said to have incomparable divine power *does not* mean that he is not subordinate to the high god who gave him his domain. *It is also of note that Nanshe, like Baal, Yahweh, and so many other deities, evolved over time. Her domain increased, and she was promoted in the pantheon (although she never became the high goddess)."*

As the Hebrew Bible notes, the Hebrew language itself is a Canaanite language, literally the “lip of Canaan” (שְׂפַת כְּנַעַן; Is. **19:18**), and so it cannot often be distinguished by modern scholars from other Canaanite inscriptions on purely linguistic grounds.)*

The belief that God came to earth only in the form of Jesus is very narrow minded. He took many forms before that and the very prominent ones are that of Rama and Krishna to mention a couple. He came even before that many times and left behind wisdom and guidance for the path to salvation. To answer the question about non-believers or agnostics - then they are subject to the action / reqction system which in the east is known as the Karma system. Those who do good are rewarded as per their deeds as are those subject to punishments for their evil. God stands only as the witness like the sun in the sky oversees both theft and kindness from above. Those seeking God get to develop a relation with him and are the shown the path. Please stop limiting this knowledge only to Jesus.🙏

It appear that Jesus never claims to be God, but even a cursory reading of the Old and New Testament make it plain what he did claim and do:
Jesus said, "Before Abraham was born, I AM" (Yahweh)." The Divine name applied to himself. The Jews tried to kill him for blasphemy as a result. They would only do this if they heard him claim to be God. So here at least he does in fact claim to be God.
Jesus accepted worship from his Disciple Thomas who said to Christ, "My Lord and My God." after the resurrection. Everywhere else in the Bible, a human who receives or claims divine worship is immediately punished by death. See what happened to King Herod after giving a speech in the Gospels and the people exclaimed, "This is the voice of a god!"
Jesus reputedly refers to himself as the "Son of Man", a phrase from the prophet Daniel referring to God himself.
Jesus shows supernatural power over the storms, which the Old Testament credits to God alone.
Jesus forgives sins, which both the Old Testament and New Testament teach belongs to God alone, until AFTER Jesus gives the right to his apostles and the church to forgive sins.
Jesus taught the moral law with authority over it, by saying, "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." No one but God can claim to be Lord of God's holy day. He also taught that Thou shalt no murder meant also you shall not hate and that Thou shalt not commit adultery means you shall not lust. Only God can teach his moral law with such authority.
And finally, and probably most clearly, only God can satisfy God's wrath against all the sins of humanity. No human can do it. No angel can do it. No one can stand in front of God and satisfy God's justice, except for God himself. Thus, we see the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - One God, with Three Persons. God the Judge; Christ the Redeemer; The Spirit the Sanctifier and Counselor. Christianity is God taking on God's wrath in place of humanity and offering the free gift of Eternal Life to all who put their trust in him.
Yes, Jesus Christ is God. He claims it. He accepts it. He give his life as a gift for you, and he takes his life up again to reign in glory. Repent of your sins and accept his free gift of Grace. It is yours as much as it is mine, unless you refuse it.

The person who rejects peace and joy in paradise forever is obviously out of their mind! They cannot be held responsible for any decisions made while in such a delirious state. Even our own justice system allows a "not guilty by reason of insanity" plea. Are we more loving and compassionate than God? Jesus came not to condemn but to save. God sent Him to be Savior of the world. Did He succeed or did He fail in that mission? The Bible says, "Love never fails," and that, "God is love." So, God never fails! My contention is, Jesus succeeded in saving the world. One day, every knee shall bow and tongue gladly confess, and will then enjoy their lives experiencing peace and joy forever in paradise. It's just a matter of timing.

God doesn't "give cancer to kids." We have free will and we live in a world of chance. That's the only way to have free will. Without the possibility of the worst tragedy, we can't know absolute joy. Or anything in-between.

      @sidwhiting665 4 місяці тому

I respectfully clarify one thing Bobby Dillon said....
Free will is not responsible for sin. Rather, it introduced the potential for sin. Also, a person absolutely can know joy without tragedy. Adam and Eve knew no sin, and their joy was complete. But in pride they were tempted and fell into sin. We will know joy in heaven absent any tragedy, and the person who dies of old age surrounded by family and friends won't have any less joy than a person who dies at the hands of a cruel sadistic murderer. Complete joy is for all who trust in the name of Jesus Christ!
It is sin that cause a fallen world, which is what brought death into it. Death includes all forms of cancers and other diseases, as well as violence, "old age" and so on. As the Bible teaches, "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life."
My comfort is that God redeemed mankind from this fallen world. Everyone will die of something, someday. But those who die with faith, hope, and trust in Christ will be reborn in Eternity and will never die again or suffer the pains of this world. That gift is for everyone: you, me, and Bobby. Don't reject it.
