_the lvl 3 can only be used in certain states in the US?_ Yes, Nevada and California. _Is it disabled in other states?_ Yes. _How often does the car need the driver to take over?_ In the U.S., the car needs the driver to take over any time conditions no longer meet the many requirements for Drive Pilot to operate. These include: ● It operates only on geofenced, precision mapped, limited access highways ● It operates only at speeds of 40 MPH and below ● It operates only in the same lane-no lane changes ● It operates only with a lead vehicle within 100 meters ahead ● It operates only in clear weather-no rain or snow ● It operates only with no direct sun on the cameras ● It operates only if the driver doesn’t avert his gaze from ahead for more than five seconds
Great step! Cannot wait for it to be available with actual travel speeds! Imagine going 95 KPH on a german Autobahn for 650 Km.... Good luck! :D. But other than that! Awesome!
In other words: Tesla is super experimental and risky, you can't trust it (just check some of the videos). But if I can't trust autopilot, it's just a gimmick. You can trust the Mercedes.
@@jnkization Mercedes lvl3 is so limited, it needs a car ahead and only works during the day in good weather conditions with limited speed on a limited selection of freeways. It's useless. Most Mercedes drivers will never experience it because not all conditions are granted. Tesla users can use FSD every day, every time, everywhere. It makes driving, especially longer drives, so much more comfortable.
If you had experienced FSD 13 you wouldn't ask. It's so much more comfortable, because you just watch out of your front window. That's it. Enabling DrivePilot is like playing lotto. You never have all the parameters right to have it activated. When Mercedes get rid of the car ahead restriction and make all the freeways drivable, it will provide some value. But until then, Tesla has lvl5 and Mercedes can't sell or use their own technology in a meaningful way because it's outdated compared to FSD.
Well it is not really about the features but about the safety it provides. Because Tesla autopilot for example simply is not safe enough to be allowed on german/european roads. Mercedes autopilot however is completly legal even in germany, that is the whole point why this is hyped. In other aspects tesla is ahead ofc, but then again tesla autopilot is forbidden in europe and not even a feature within the cars .
My Mustang Mach E4X is already certified (3 months ago) in all of Europa, using bluecruise (100 % self drive, at speed 130 km/h, with laneshift coming next update) I go from denmark to italy without touching the steering wheel at all. and it works like a charm.
Honestly, i would still prefer to use teslas full self drive over this. Just don't see why mercedes Autopilot is at level 3 since it can only go up to 95kph and is limited to certain places on earth like Mr benz said in the video and let's not forget that it only works in daytime and if it's raining outside you're out of luck because it won't let you activate Autopilot on the mercedes. The only nice thing on the mercedes is you can actually watch videos and Netflix but after a while the car will alert you to deactivate Autopilot. On the other hand teslas full self drive can go to speeds up to 150kph and it will work when it's raining and at night, don't forget full self drive works anywhere in north America and is soon to be available in Europe and Asia in the first quarter of 2025 according to tesla them self.
@@DiegoGG777And Teslas FSD is still nothing special. I know they work towards full self driving for more control over the public, but its good that its still many years away either way.
Do you know that Tesla requires you to take control over the steering wheel? If Mercedes automotive driving is turned on, responsibility of accidents are taken by Mercedes.
I'll put my eggs in the Mercedes basket any day over Tesla. Just bc Mercedes is a little more cautious rn over the matter doesn't make the tech less superior. Honestly it comes down to safety and liability. Who's liability in an autonomous accident? Mercedes first introduced Distronic back in 2000 (I believe) which was so far ahead of the game. Mercedes has always been about safety and innovation. My vote is for the company that's going to make the roads safer, and if that means ironing out any kinks before it's fully released, the I'm all for it
Mr. Benz great video!!! Do you know if Mercedes-Benz will bring the drive pilot Level#3 to other cars. I want the 2025 E53. Do you think it will come to E Class or S Class. Let me know. Thanks Cevin
While I admire the tech, it's not for me. First, I love to drive. Second, I get motion sickness if I'm not looking outside so I cannot watch a movie or use my phone. Third, I get tired if my mind isn't occupied. So no distraction, no slacking, no fun - why would I want autonomous driving except for the car picking me up? The really cool part about Level 3/4 is when it parks for you in a tight garage as the Audi A8 has shown years ago.
I was iffy on the mercedes exterior but its been growing on me seeing them on the road. However i could be mistaking them for the EQE sedan from a distance.

@@smartturkey123 Yeah, yeah, we’ve heard that. But that’s only on paper. Real world usage shows a completely different picture. Even though Tesla’s FSD is level 2 it blows away Mercedes’ level 3.
Level 3 and above just means that the responsability is on the manufacturer instead of the driver. Tesla doesn't want to bear responsability so they volontarily stay on Level 2. So yes the technology might be superior while staying at Level 2. However, Chinese manufacturers almost all have some kind of L2 FSD and I wouldn't be so confident to say that Tesla is the best of all. They are advancing very, very fast.

He sold the car in less than a year. Got a new s450d. He is happy with this one so far.
In short, it's far more useful and promising than merc. Look up FSD 12.5.6 to see how good it is. If you want the details, merc only can work in daylight, no rain, must be behind a truck, certain gap behind truck, it actually turns itself off after a while, only can work in certain highways and I think cities, finally this merc needs a ton of lidar and high tech scanning devices. Tesla FSD works basically anytime anywhere (in North America) with the simple kind of cameras you see in phones, this is the difference. Driver doesn't need to touch the wheel, does legally require the driver to watch road though (no movies). Stats show a driver intervention only needed every 100-200 miles! This was according to dirty Tesla channel who uses it in Michigan I think. Also it should be noted there seems to be a constant improvement in tesla's fsd, see version 10 to version 11 to version 12 to 12.5 now, imagine version 13 & even 14 in future...
The *only* difference between SAE Level 2 (Tesla FSD (Supervised) on five million miles of streets, roads and highways in the US and Canada, day or night, in most any weather, at speeds up to 85 MPH), and SAE Level 3 (MB Drive Pilot on a few thousand miles of precision-mapped limited access highways in Nevada and California, at less than 40 MPH, during the day, on drive pavement), is that at Level 2 the driver must take over immediately when requested, while at Level 3 a delay is permitted, typically 10 seconds.
@@BigBen621 no, the difference is on level 3 you are allowed to do something else. The car is responsible. Tesla will never get to level 3 due to the lack of lidar. Hence they can't let the car be responsible and let you do something else.
MB Drive Pilot is authorized for SAE Level 3 on a few thousand miles of precision-mapped, limited access freeways in California and Nevada, at speeds less than 40 MPH, only if there's another vehicle within 100 yards ahead of you, only in the same lane, during the day, on dry pavement. It's available only on S Class and EQS; and even then, seems to be pretty much vaporware. Last time I looked, there wasn't a *single* S Class or EQS in all of California equipped with Drive Pilot.
The crazy thing is that this technology will be available in most new lower level cars within ten years... and by then, Mercedes will have achieved level 4.
I drove one like that, but a 2023 model in California. Was on autopilot from San Francisco to LA and hit a deer. Teslas Autopilot is not legal in germany. Plus Tesla does NOT take any responsibility. If you crash, you are at fault. If the mercedes crashes, mercedes is at fault! Thats the big and important difference everyone ignores.

And yeah tesla doesn't do that because they don't have to! A insurance policy has nothing to do about how good a self driving system is.
@Bruno-XBT that's common sense any car in Europe driving it self means that the one behind the seat is responsible there are also many alerts about your responsibility before you engage an autopilot system... Mercedes uses road data based on cloud and navigates based on a distance sensor and camera Tesla is hardware based meaning there are almost no cloud data when using autopilot only corrections and traffic is shared... Lastly Mercedes only works in certain highway's since to implement this everywhere in the world there has to be a Mercedes sharing the road information whilst you drive it to share every highway in Germany alone it would take around 3 years Tesla has been doing that for a decade that's how they created the fsd in the first place ..

_the lvl 3 can only be used in certain states in the US?_
Yes, Nevada and California.
_Is it disabled in other states?_
Yes.
_How often does the car need the driver to take over?_
In the U.S., the car needs the driver to take over any time conditions no longer meet the many requirements for Drive Pilot to operate. These include:
● It operates only on geofenced, precision mapped, limited access highways
● It operates only at speeds of 40 MPH and below
● It operates only in the same lane-no lane changes
● It operates only with a lead vehicle within 100 meters ahead
● It operates only in clear weather-no rain or snow
● It operates only with no direct sun on the cameras
● It operates only if the driver doesn’t avert his gaze from ahead for more than five seconds

In the meanwhile there are thousands of Tesla FSD users that even drive autonomously in cities or parking lots.
There is a difference: If your Mercedes crashes into another car on autopilot, you are not liable - the manufacturer is.
@kafiluz4317 If you still have to watch the road because you will be liable when your automatic car crashes - then what is the point of FSD really?
If you had experienced FSD 13 you wouldn't ask. It's so much more comfortable, because you just watch out of your front window. That's it. Enabling DrivePilot is like playing lotto. You never have all the parameters right to have it activated. When Mercedes get rid of the car ahead restriction and make all the freeways drivable, it will provide some value. But until then, Tesla has lvl5 and Mercedes can't sell or use their own technology in a meaningful way because it's outdated compared to FSD.
i so wish to be like Mr Benz i mean this guy has literary driven every mercedes🥲🥲
To be honest, Tesla autopilot seems to work way better than this...
Yeah, seriously. This system is fine but it can only drive itself for like 2 minutes
Waymo has everyone beat by a mile
Well it is not really about the features but about the safety it provides. Because Tesla autopilot for example simply is not safe enough to be allowed on german/european roads. Mercedes autopilot however is completly legal even in germany, that is the whole point why this is hyped. In other aspects tesla is ahead ofc, but then again tesla autopilot is forbidden in europe and not even a feature within the cars
.
Tesla full self-drive autopilot supervised, so far is much better
My Mustang Mach E4X is already certified (3 months ago) in all of Europa, using bluecruise (100 % self drive, at speed 130 km/h, with laneshift coming next update) I go from denmark to italy without touching the steering wheel at all. and it works like a charm.
I'm a big fan of Mercedes, but they are far behind Tesla and other companies when it comes to autonomous driving.

Tesla are way ahead of their competitors in Self Driving, but will likely never get the same comfort as a Mercedes.
@@DiegoGG777And Teslas FSD is still nothing special. I know they work towards full self driving for more control over the public, but its good that its still many years away either way.
No they aint theyre on level 2 @@DiegoGG777
Do you know that Tesla requires you to take control over the steering wheel? If Mercedes automotive driving is turned on, responsibility of accidents are taken by Mercedes.
I'll put my eggs in the Mercedes basket any day over Tesla. Just bc Mercedes is a little more cautious rn over the matter doesn't make the tech less superior. Honestly it comes down to safety and liability. Who's liability in an autonomous accident? Mercedes first introduced Distronic back in 2000 (I believe) which was so far ahead of the game. Mercedes has always been about safety and innovation. My vote is for the company that's going to make the roads safer, and if that means ironing out any kinks before it's fully released, the I'm all for it
Wow i fell im going to get this one

Third, I get tired if my mind isn't occupied.
So no distraction, no slacking, no fun - why would I want autonomous driving except for the car picking me up?
The really cool part about Level 3/4 is when it parks for you in a tight garage as the Audi A8 has shown years ago.
I was iffy on the mercedes exterior but its been growing on me seeing them on the road. However i could be mistaking them for the EQE sedan from a distance.
It's really amazing

Wow, this is like a childs toy compared to Tesla FSD. Thank you for proving to us that Tesla is superiour in every way compared to MB.
FSD is only level 2. You are not supposed to play Tetris with level 2.

My Cybertruck drives itself just fine. Goes in any lane it needs to and goes the speed I need it to. No annoying popcorn chewing as a bonus. The movie watching is around the corner I'm sure. Love the interior of the Mercedes
That's true but you're sacrificing the luxury of it. I've been in both Cybertrucks and Mercedes like this, while the self-driving is really cool, a Mercedes is definitely more comfortable and nicer (In my opinion).
@SkinnyIsSkinny That's fair, but my response was just highlighting the FSD advantage. Luxury is nice though.
BMW has better self driving then tesla. Tesla just now made theirs hands free .. bmw has had that for over a year
@G82Watts Just now made it hands-free? Where are you from? Tesla started the FSD movement. It was available in the US in 2014. You'd have to be from Europe or China to make that statement true.
BMW has some cool stuff, but let's not pretend FSD was priority of there's until their customers started moving to Tesla. Love the luxury, hate the lack of reliability.
The Tesla interiors are disgusting.
Beautiful car, but so few were sold they may be stop selling it :)) Too bad they only make this model with electric engine. Would have been nice with combustion engine and maybe cheaper. I had an acquaintance who had this model. He need a car for a wery often drive of around 300-350 km twice a weak at least. He tends to drive fast so the range wasnt enough till there and had to stop for charging. Wasn't satisfied and according to him did not saved money on charging bills. He sold the car in less than a year. Got a new s450d. He is happy with this one so far.
love it
I have all this in my 2024 GLC, i can run the firestick in my car while driving, with a much much bigger screen too.
I am not so much into this topic, so I ask my self, how good is Teslas autonomous driving compared to this one?
Tesla is lightyears ahead. Just look up FSD videos. I suggest from Wholemarsblog, the newer the better.
I'd love this on my EQS in The Netherlands but I think we're many years away from approval.
Not only Mercedes of course actually is possibly level 3 in other car brands the question is state goberments
v
"level 3" yet when you activate it you get a notification telling you to be prepared to take over at any point 🤔
I was like, it's a very practical car.
Is level 3 available in the US? What MB vehicles offer level 3?
MB Drive Pilot is authorized for SAE Level 3 on a few thousand miles of precision-mapped, limited access freeways in California and Nevada, at speeds less than 40 MPH, only if there's another vehicle within 100 yards ahead of you, only in the same lane, during the day, on dry pavement. It's available only on S Class and EQS; and even then, seems to be pretty much vaporware. Last time I looked, there wasn't a *single* S Class or EQS in all of California equipped with Drive Pilot.

And yeah, if YOU crash YOUR car of course You're the one at fault everyone knows that lol.
Now I will assume your talking about mercedes Autopilot system of their's, and with that Mercedes will only be at fault IF their system failed to do it's job causing the crash. And yeah tesla doesn't do that because they don't have to! A insurance policy has nothing to do about how good a self driving system is.
@@Bruno-XBT Google the difference between full self driving tesla auto pilot and the tesla auto pilot which is legal in germany :) thanks
Lastly Mercedes only works in certain highway's since to implement this everywhere in the world there has to be a Mercedes sharing the road information whilst you drive it to share every highway in Germany alone it would take around 3 years Tesla has been doing that for a decade that's how they created the fsd in the first place
