Why is he not using the swords like a sword? and why he is having one sword back when both swords should be forward towards the opponent? I thought you attack with the pointy ends of weapons and not the side blade/edge?

@@tcharmon74 No, he just knew how to bullshit. Ive been practicing choy lee fut and northern contemporary shaolin gongfu(with a history of other backgrounds before, helps), nothing Jakey boy has claimed in the beginning is true. His taolu's(whic is the chinese version of a kata, there are soft and hard, internal and external long and short boxing/fist forms, not excluding weapons) of all his forms are weird, totally not how they go, and some have obvious made up movement steps thrown in them. Think about it, when the video" YOUR PERFECT BO STAFF, when its called a gwan or bang in gongfu? The bo is specific in japanese bujutsu(ka-rate-do, hojutsu, kenjutsu, iaijutsu, judo, aikido, kobudo ect), it's one of the forms of Bojutsu(Bojutsu doesnt use bo's only, there is the tanbo, hanbo, tsubo/ono, ect). There was a video where here tries teaching iron palm, I did'nt get through 5 seconds when I looked at his hads. People who practiced iron palm and used fallhit wine before and after training almost all have huge hands, the some just big. Not pretty but that is real gongfu. His hands are dainty and pretty, and he claims to know all strikes on the ironpalm bag(he showed 3, when in reality there are WAY more ways to strike, as your also conditionining your wrists, fingers, inside knife hand, outside knive, ect). So I believe jake has a bit martial arts history, but he definitely does not know northern shaolin, wing chun, choy lee fut, or hung gar. Fuck this crazy son of a bitch.

Jake mace looks like a guy who got fit and learned his kung fu from what he thinks he saw watching shaw brothers films. His background is in shaolin Do a school founded by a southeast Asian guy who claimed that the founder of his art was a traveling circus werewolf looking guy from the shaolin temple. Watching shaolin Do' s "kung fu" and reading the cult like brainwashed testimonies from the students you begin to understand where jake mace is coming from a little more.

I'm just going to say it. You are laughing all over yourself about the moves you see. But, you are just demonstrating you are ignorant of all the techniques available to the butterfly swords. Jake Mace's proficiency aside (he's probably in better shape than you appear to be), I'm not a huge fan. But, I certainly don't see all the hate directed at what he does as being legitimate.
One thing, you call them butterfly knives. They are swords. Even though Dao means knife, we don't go around calling swords "knives". There is a difference between Butterfly Swords and Butterfly Knives (Balisongs). I assume you are experienced enough to know about Balisongs.
Another is where you suggest if he is not attacking with both swords simultaneously, he is being stupid. THAT is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Butterfly Swords are not the only dual weapons that are used where you attack with one while holding the other at the ready, or blocking with it. You have two fists. Do you always punch with both of those at the same time? Think about it.
Another is where you scoff at the push-cut. All that large cutting area, and you can't imagine any use of the push-cut? It's not for every situation (that's why there are other techniques), but certainly a push-cut is one used for these weapons, and other schools (not just Jake Mace) use it.
You laughed when he used a parry technique. Seriously? You don't recognize the Heaven-side and hook of the Butterfly Sword as a parrying surface? Here is a description: "The butterfly sword has a small cross-guard to protect the hands of the wielder, similar to that of a Sai, which can also be used to block or hook an opponent's weapon." Why, for Heavens sake, are you ignorant of this?
Jesus! Are you a Martial Arts instructor? If you are, I hope you don't claim to teach these weapons.
And how can a Martial Arts instructor not know that there are conditioning movements in forms. We know no one fights in a Horse Stance. But, Horse Stance is a great conditioning posture. If one derives inspiration to condition while practicing one of their weapons or any other Taolu, who are you to scoff at that? How much conditioning do YOU practice?
You scoffed at the Intro of the form. If you were a Martial Arts instructor, you would know that most Chinese forms have a salutation to them, often having nothing to do with an actual technique, but a show of respect. While "Emperor Points the Way" is primarily used with Jian (straight sword), the two fingers pointing gesture is not exclusive to the straight sword.
You point out one of the practical theories of Emperor Points the Way and say it simulates holding a scabbard or sheath in the opposite hand, so it can't apply here. Yet within the same video, you hold up a scabbard for your filthy, uncared-for swords and sheath them. It is YOU who are truly hilarious!
On top of that, there are theories about it's meaning having to do with the flow of Chi/Energy. This posture is in methods that are not even combat in nature. The movement is also a Yin & Yang balance between the sword hand and the empty hand (where, in the case of this salutation, the two are indeed in one hand). We ARE taught the ideal is to not have the swords separate, but appear as one. But that is not going to be perfect every time. There will be times one is just going to drop lower; hardly a reason for the level of derision you display here.
I could go on and on, but I will stop with this one:
You said Mace probably could not duplicate twice what he did in this form.
Simply watching his original video through, he did exactly that! Movement for movement, two speeds.
He has other videos demonstrating Butterfly Swords, using the same techniques.
So you are verifiably WRONG right there. Additionally, students in my school routinely learn forms way longer... posture for posture. What Mace shows you here is only a couple sections of a much longer form.
I wish you, and the others in your comment section, commenting out of ignorance about things they know nothing about, would spend more time studying your craft, and leave other arts alone. You are clearly unqualified to critique them.
Oh... I would wait for you to post YOU performing YOUR Butterfly Sword Form. But, I think I'll be waiting a long time.

I’m gonna give my critique of your critique, including pros & cons of your argument, as well as both criticism & vindication of Jake Mace.
First off, there’s TONS of weird blocks, movements and postures in Asian MA which, if you interpret the complete form as a real fight, make absolutely no sense. As such, you can totally rip just about any form apart, legitimate MA or fake MA. This fact tears apart much of your argument against Jake Mace.
That being said…and as I understand it, Jake Mace isn’t his real name, and his Sifu seemed to teach a more modern style of “shaolin” king fu…which in all honesty could be derived in part from Karate or other martial arts, possibly adding the real Chinese name to some of their terminology to make it seem more legitimately Chinese. Kinda like Kung Fu San Soo appears to do. Also, it is possible that Mace may have further modified these forms to suit his needs.
It’s obvious to me that Jake Mace has some (at least semi-) traditional martial arts training. That being said, there’s a ton black black belts out there who couldn’t fight their way out of a wet paper bag to save their lives. What does that say about traditional martial arts? Bullshido might have a lot to say about that.
There are a ton of Chinese martial arts that are going to go extinct because they aren’t practical in todays world or MA tournaments. They are beautiful to watch however.

You don't understand what you are seeing, and I can understand how that may not be obvious... especially with the OP joking and poking fun about it.
He's not "boxing". This is called a "push-cut". He is cutting forward with the sharp edge... not punching with the handle.
This is a valid technique for close-quarters cutting with the blade of the Butterfly Sword.
